I've been wondering this for a while, is the "remake" even a remake or is it a sequel? because in the remake, they say she has been there before but as a child, and she was a child in the original, and yes, I know it's based on a book, and the book had a sequel called through looking glass, that also got adapted, but this is only about the "remake" and the original, so, what are your thoughts?

Pseudo sequel or spiritual successor, maybe?
You could say a version of the events in the animated movie happened, but there could be room for differences here and there depending on what they do or say in the live-action movies.

I think Alice’s original voice actress said she saw it as a story outside of the continuity of the animated version. If that isn’t an official enough source, I don’t know what is
