Well, I agree about having experiance from previous adventures...it doesn't make sense otherwise (e.g. Legend of Zelda - You defeat Ganondorf, have 50+ hearts, and beat Ocarina of Time. Then you play the sequel, Majora's mask... you die to a little dog thing, run around looking for a slingshot, and die tripping over a rock)

But a theory can be that Sora lost all his abilities in Castle Oblivion, and then regained them, and then lost them again from a few years of sleep. I mean, if you sleep for a few years straight, you wouldn't exactly be bouncing around defeating Org members seconds after you wake up...

if donald were to have the magic flare in the beginning of the game, it would seem like and look like donald still has some experience from his previous adventures but not too powerful.

O.k. after much a thought of what you've posted, I see where your coming from so far, I understand that after being allied with Donald/Goofy for three games, you'd think they'd have something to show for themselves, like their spells be naturally powerful (and graphical) from all the training endured throught out the Kingdom Hearts series.

as small as hollow bastion's defense mechanism (which i thought donald was casting that) but it's a high level magic spell known in final fantasy. for some odd reason, donald's magic doesn't look as powerful as it used to be in the first game. this idea should mostly be for kingdom hearts iii...

Are you sure? At the very start of the first Kingdom Hearts, all spells were considered week, but your able to upgrade your spells throught the game,

For example;

Fire = Small flare
Firaga = Huge flare

EDIT: this is kinda why i thought donald was casting flare before the game was released. look at the explosions in the picture. yeah i did took the time to do that in photoshop. o.o;

O.k. I see your theory, as much as I'd love for Donald to be able to cast a spell of that nature, I don't see it happening, mainly because;

1. Kingdom Hearts isn't turn based therefore, you don't have time to watch pretty graphics on your T.V.

2. The Camera is always constantly moving, when your locked on, you can't afford for the screen to basically blind you for a few seconds, such as in a battle with Sephiroth!?

the characters should look like they had already had experience in the beginning of the game while fighting monsters or bosses (look powerful too but not too much) but at the same time, the gameplay should be easy at the start.

Meh, I'm sure that the Kingdom Hearts character team, have thought of many designs for Donald etc. And that what ever the final production is, it's got to be worth it!

tell me if there's something wrong... i'll try to explain it the best i can. if you don't know what the heck i'm trying to say than... just ignore this.

That's quite possible also, I mean if you slept for a year, don't you think you'd be a bit rusty at fighting? Or casting a spell?
