I don't think I'm particularly knowledgeable regarding computers, but compared to most kids in my class I pretty much invented the computer. In my English class, we had to use brand new laptops which only had Open Office on them (no Word), so people were flipping out all over the place about how they wouldn't be able to transfer their file to Word in the computer lab the next day. At home I use Open Office all the time, so everyone rushed to me for help. When I told them to convert the file from an ODF to a DOC, 90% of the class (including the teacher) didn't understand me. I'd like to emphasize that these are high school seniors we're talking about here. I thought that after 12 years of schooling it was pretty reasonable to assume that they knew how to change a file type. But I had to first teach the teacher how to do it, and then he showed the rest of the class. That was a sad day, but I like helping people so I didn't really mind.
I don't know anything about how a computer actually runs, though. As far as computer safety and such, I'm pretty much lost. I don't have my own personal computer, and my dad manages the family computer, so I really have no place to learn.
