How did Young Terranort get to the realm of sleep along with Xigbar and Ansem SoD and Xemnas?

Young Xehanort and the others getting into the realm of sleep has been explained this way:

Nomura said:
— The Brown Robed Fgure, a Heartless born from that experiment, says “This world has been connected.” While in KH1 that meant that the island was connected to the darkness, in this title does it signify that Xehanort and co. have connected to the dream world?

Nomura: It means both of those things. In that scene, the Brown Robed Figure becomes a “portal” himself as a result of contact with Sora and co., making it possible for the other Xehanorts to intervene within the dreams.

Xehanort, who had given up his body and become just a heart in a robe, was on the Destiny Islands when they fell into darkness and the realm of sleep. By being there and having Young Xehanort using his power to gather everyone together, they were able to enter the realm of sleep since the robed figure became a portal in himself.

Nomura said:
—Were the 13 Seekers of Darkness, who were meant to be in different times, gathered by transcending time with magic?

Nomura: Just as it says in the story, to transcend time one must ‘first’ discard their form. As a result of the actions of the Brown Robed Figure, they all were in a state where they had gained the power to transcend time. The Brown Robed Figure explains the facts. The thirteen were summoned at the same time, this time thanks to Young Xehanort who borrowed that power. However, apart from Young Xehanort, that does not mean that all the members transcended time.

So the brown robed figure was Xehanort who had traveled back in time to the point where Destiny Islands fell into sleep, but since he time traveled, he was reduced to just a heart in a robe?

It was Terra-Xehanort's Heartless (aka Ansem SoD)...so essentially, he was just a heart to begin with (since Xemnas, Terranort's Nobody, is the "discarded" body)

It's rather complex--don't feel like an idiot. :) Basically, we know from previous games that Apprentice Xehanort gave up his heart, creating Xemnas and Ansem SoD. Ansem SoD is a Heartless, so he really has no definite body. Having given up his body, he was able to travel to the Destiny Islands and speak with his past self, Young Xehanort. He then positioned himself at the Destiny Islands when it was thrown into sleep so that he would be able to access the entrance to the realm of sleep.

Meanwhile, Young Xehanort borrowed that power over time to visit Xemnas and the other members of the new Organization to give them instructions. As they were all connected to the Brown Robed Figure (Ansem SoD), who had access to the portal to the realm of sleep, they were able to find their way in and temporarily transcend time with Young Xehanort's power when he summoned them. No one else needed to discard their bodies because Xehanort had already done so once and they all had his heart within them.

*still looks confusing* Does that help a little?

That helps a ton. Thank you so much :)

Edit" But when YX visited Xemnas, shouldn't he have become only a heart as well? Also, Once Xemnas and the Organization was contacted, how did they make there way to DI to get in the RoS?

According to Mr. Nomura, no, he wouldn't have had to. He says that since Ansem SoD had already done so, all of the others were able to move through time as a result. I'm assuming that it is because they all carry his heart with them, so his sacrifice would count for all of them.

I don't think they all actually went to DI to use the portal. The way Mr. Nomura explains it seems to indicate that by gaining access to the entrance to the realm of sleep, Ansem SoD "became" a sort of portal into it himself, hence him saying, "This world has been connected." When he connected to the realm of sleep, all of them connected to it. In any case, once YX made it through, he could summon the others at will, which was how they all gathered at the end. (It talks about that in the Ultimania quotes I put a few posts back.)

I see. I think I've got it now. Still a little weirded out, but at least now I know what happened. Thank you so much. I hope it didn't bother you :)

Why would they suddenly lose their memory though? Going back in the past or future doesn't affect your memory. (Well, that's how it works for most time travelling things..)

They will have some vague recollection of their plans, their "chain of memories" that can't truly be forgotten. Kind've like how Ansem SoD and Xemnas were carrying out MX's plan without fully realizing what the true plan was. That's the way I see it.

I only assumed they would all forget since YMX said once he goes back he will lose his experience and memories of what happened. I figured it would happen to all of them also, except for Braig, Isa, and MX.

In the KH universe, you always return to your original time after you're done time traveling and your memory gets wiped, essentially. So, you can't actually go live in another time or mess up the time you're coming from. The idea is that memories can't truly be forgotten though, like how remnants keep popping up. Memories will be there but you won't be able to fully understand or remember what they are of. This is what leads Young Xehanort to want to travel to new worlds, because he's visited others and met his other selves while time traveling.

In a sense, MX's ambition comes from when he was Younger and YX's ambition comes from his time with MX. A stable time-memory loop of crazy.

Sooo confusing but at the same time, it makes sense xD
but where does it say in the game was all memories are wiped out when you go back to your original time? Feels like it's the first time I've heard that.

I honestly haven't beaten the game yet, but I spoiled it for myself back when it released in Japan and read all the spoiler stuff. I know when I've read it, YX is the one who mentions that he won't remember his experiences time traveling, I'll try to find the quote.

"Q: Give it to me in practical terms first. Concretely, officially, pragmatically, what is time travel used for?

A: Gathering Xehanorts all throughout time to completely the necessary thirteen people of darkness. That's the gist of it. If the details make your head spin too much for you to bear, that's all you need to know. Young Xehanort was gifted the power of time travel. He's gathering up Xehanorts from the past, like Ansem and Xemnas, and bringing them to the future to be members of the new thirteen.

Q: Okay. Gotcha. But let's go deeper now. Doesn't that screw up time? Doesn't give Ansem, Xemnas, and Young Xehanort knowledge of the future? Wouldn't it change history?

A: Absolutely not. There's an impassable limit on just how long you can stay outside your natural time. And when you hit that limit, you're sucked right back to where you're supposed to be, and if you have any memories of the future, they're wiped away, because for you, now, that future hasn't happened yet, and naturally, you can't remember something that hasn't happened. So, you're never "gone" from history -- you reappear exactly when and where you left. And you have no foreknowledge of what's to come anymore.

Q: But doesn't that defy a rule of the series? I thought memories were never truly gone.

A: Oh, they still aren't. Young Xehanort actually comes right out and says that even though his memories of the future will be wiped away and buried, the mark they left on his heart will always be there, and those memories lying just out of reach, that inexplicable longing, that mark on his heart, is what will lead him to long for the outside world to begin with. It's what will lead him to leave the islands and begin the events of the series."

This is from Story FAQ: Confused? Come right in. We'll straighten you out. *spoilers galore* - Kingdom Hearts 3D: Dream Drop Distance Message Board for 3DS - GameFAQs.

I know it's not complete undeniable fact, but it makes sense to me and I'm going with it.
