The copy of the game that I ended up with didn't work, so we went to exchange it. This is how that went....
Us: Dude, it doesn't work.
GameStopGuy: Yeah, I know.
Us:
GSG: Square Enix made an anouncement that there were a few defective copies shipped. We've had eight returned so far.
Us: Wow. Jeez.
GSG: Lemme swap this out for you guys.
Us: Sweet. Thanks.
.... okay, maybe not quite like that, but you guys get the point.
So, how do we tell if we have a defective copy?
If the PS2 goes to the browser and pops up the gold CD, upon clickage of the cd, the screen will go black for a moment and then go straight back to the browser. This will happen every time.
Just go back to where you got it and they will replace it. I'd make 'em test it at the store first, just in case.
