Takashi Arakawa and Yoshinori Kitase (dirctor, writer, and producer) went to a gaming event in Munich, Germany recently. The Square-Enix staff writers had a small interview with German gaming site play3 about the writing of the scenarios in the game and possible ideas for a sequel.

Short Dissidia Interview

How do you make sure that no logical errors or plot holes find their way into the story and presentation of so many Final Fantasy games?

We have three measures that prevent that. First of all, a majority of the Square Enix staff already took part in the development of previous FF games. Secondly, we publish guide books in Japan the also serve us as reference archives. And thirdly, we have a couple of employees - like a young female colleague for example - who played through all of the FF games and really know all the details.

- How long does it take to play through Dissidia?

- Arakawa-san: The Japanese version has a whole 40 hours of playtime. The US/European version allows to play through the game in a mere 10 hours by having branches in the game’s story mode. Apart from that the balancing for the duels has been slightly readjusted.
You can still play through the long version of the story mode if you feel like it, though.

- How do you develop for the PSP and how do you see the future of that portable system?

- Arakawa-san: Our development teams are in constant competition with each other. Every department has their own approach and tweaks the engine that fits their game the most.

Kitase-san: A majority of the Kingdom Hearts 2 staff has worked on Dissidia. The similarity between PS2 and PSP payed off for us. What else can be done with the PSP is something we will show with Final Fantasy Agito XIII.
Apart from that, we still have lots of other PSP projects in the making.

Another article didn’t reveal anything new except for one interesting bit at the end:

“According to Kitase-san, a sequel would be ‘very interesting’. Maybe it’ll include Kingdom Hearts characters then?
‘Basically, yeah, that’d be possible. Although we’d have to discuss that with Disney, of course…’ ”

The thought of Kingdom Hearts being in a dissidia game isn't very appealing to me.

I'm inclined to think you're nuts. No one would fit into that style of game better than Riku.

Its mostly upon chance when it comes to this kind of thing.

I could imagine Riku and XH being in a dissidia sequal. I hope that they do add KH characters to dissidia 2.

Unless the featured character from Kingdom Hearts happened to be one of the characters from Birth By Sleep, I too find it difficult to imagine a Kingdom Hearts character fitting in very well with the remainder of the game's cast.

Sora and Riku, that should be it. Xemnas for the Evil side.

Why? The combat systems would blend seamlessly. I wouldn't want them to be part of the story, but making KH characters unlocks or DLC would be great for a DISSIDIA sequel.

Perhaps Terra and MX?

Absolutely not. Sora and Riku are classic main characters. Terra and MX are neophytes to the series... even if we did first see them 3 and 5 years after the first game. <<

Very interesting.

INCORRECT.

What the hell, Kitase? This sounds like a retarded idea. KH =/= Final Fantasy. Dissidia just needs to stick with their FF characters. I'm hoping Disney would reject the idea. Or hopefully they come to their senses and realize how stupid that would be.

You think it's stupid, that doesn't make it true. In fact, most of us seem to like the idea.

Re: Dissidia Final Fantasy inteview and hints at a possible sequel with Kingdom Heart

Sounds like a neat idea, but I think they should just stick with Final Fantasy characters.

Adding two characters from a different series is fine but if they get too crazy and add in more characters, it kind of defeats the purpose of Dissidia: Final Fantasy. You know, FINAL FANTASY.
