Saying you sympathize with the homeless does not make them any less homeless.

Just saying.

Neither does giving them money or food.

Give them a cardboard house, all decked out and colored and roofed. See if they're still "'home'less."

Never said it did.

You know there are numerous organizations like Habitat for Humanity where you can participate in the creation of sheltering the homeless, right?

Yupp.

But regardless of what these organizations go out into the far reaches to do, there's still thousands, if not millions, of homeless people. Economy, Drugs, Alcohol, Teenage Runaways...

It could be safely said that society is at fault, if anyone, though only partly. It all depends on what a homeless person's choices are before becoming homeless is the problem, and then they become stuck into a vicious cycle.

hmm bad video.

basically, I support ways of getting homeless people back into the workforce (i.e. getting them jobs), but I'm with the OP, giving them a nice place to stay just enables homeless people.

from about 9:00 discusses this fairly nicely.

also:

the beginning of this talks about a lot of this as well. blehh, it's generally just a bad idea for the government to spend taxpayer money on stuff like this.

I blame addictions and loyalties mostly... my Mom ended up homeless because of my step-dad and he was addicted to all kinds of SH**

Who is going to hire a homeless person that hasn't had a shower in several weeks?

Dealing with homelessness is more than just giving them a job or a place to stay. Theses are typically people with mental problems or a lack of skills and education. They need rehabilitation and training. But yes, they need accommodation in the mean time or else they'll be turned away at the door.

Should taxpayers fund it? Fuck yes. I'm making the most of my free education in order to have to life I want and I have no issue with the government taking my money to improve the lives of those less fortunate in return. And in the end, if we can solve the homeless problem, we'll have increased the overall quality of life for everyone. Who could not want that?

Well, some people choose to be homeless, because they don't have to worry about paying taxes or any of the disadvantages of being part of the class system. I kinda am jealous of them for that.
