For all we know, MX could have been talking about Terra... Most people simply assume he is talking about DS...

Also, since family does not hold any value in KH, I doubt DS is related to anyone... But, I do believe that he was once friends with at least one of them...

Well, ironically, after that line from MX, Terra basically says, "I don't care about being a wielder. This power.. I use it for my friends.." and MX said, "Those who submit to the darkness are not qualified to wield the keyblade."

My point, I think those lines were about Terra. Hmm.. maybe.. the fact that Terra might of originally used Darkness for his friends led up to him becoming Xehanort. In his pespective, Darkness was good, but this vision was later corrupted after he lost his memories (like it was said) and when he tried to get the memories back.. It lead up to his new obsession with Kingdom Hearts.. and.. Ehh.. can't think of much more at the moment..

They're referring to the younger Xehanort introduced to us in KHII.

How exactly does the first paragraph connect to the second?

Just because Sora is tasked with defeating Xehanort's heartless doesn't mean they were related. I don't get this "theory" at all.
