Since the Unbirths are said to be extinct by the time of the end of the events of BBS and since it might be heavily implied that these creatures are either created by Master Xehanort or come from the Realm of Darkness.

Nomura did state that these were practically the evolutionary predecessors of the Heartless making them related to the Nobodies.

Perhaps the remaining Unbirths would have to be eliminated or evolved into the Heartless due to both of them being related to the darkness.

Mmkay,
so in basic terms,
Heartless are created when you lose your heart to darkness. Heart less.
Nobodies are made when you lose your body (to darkness?) No body.
Unbirths are made.. when you haven't had a "birth"?
Well, the title is "Birth By Sleep"
Probably meaning you get a "birth" from "sleep" or uh, something xD
Maybe all the Unbirths need to be "born" is "sleep"
Whatever "sleep" is supposed to be in the KH universe..
Maybe when they get their "sleep",
Something happens to make all Unbirths disappear or whatever and then the Heartless are made..somehow lol
It's confusing but I really think it's going to be something like that =P
I just wish we had more info about "birth" and "sleep".

No, they're made when a strong hearted person becomes a heartless.

Unbirths are made.. when you haven't had a "birth".

MX and the DS, to me, are related to the whole "birth" and "sleep" thing, and also the Unbirths.

I was just saying how their names could be related to their creation.

Well, what I meant was I think that "Unbirth" means "without birth" or something like that.
I think the game's title, "Birth By Sleep", has something to do with it.
Maybe they can achieve "birth" by "sleep", no longer making them Unbirths.
I don't mean those two words literally.
There's going to be some magical, KH explanation for them.
But does anybody have any theories on what Birth and Sleep MEAN?

The body and soul doesn't just STAY there.
Like Sora's for example.
It sort of "faded" away and later on, Roxas was formed in Twilight Town.
Sora's body and soul left him.
But with the power of Kairi's heart, a new vessel (body and soul), was created for Sora when he was a Heartless. He basically got a new body lol.

Sora was only a Heart until he fused with Roxas again in KH2. Kairi never gave him a body.

I don't think that has been confirmed but I agree that what you're
suggesting is the most likely scenario, and makes the most sense.
(Other scenarios are still possible though)

Although Sora managed to survive as a mere entity of a heart until reuniting with his body and soul, the entity known as Roxas.
