You most likely do. I felt hardly any emotion in FF7, while FF9 was tear jerking. The characters were bought to life, and quest felt epic. FF7 was too wishy washy with horrible localization.

ff7 was so emotional more than ff9, ff9 was too wacky to me and the quest was hilarious, and the localization was great better than ff9

lmao. Wacky? Just because there was no "lighting" in FF7, and the world of FF9 was colorful, lustful, and enjoying, doesnt mean the crapped up ghetto trashed world of Final Fantasy 7 was "more dark".

Also, localization isnt even debatable you halfwit. FF7's text was filled with spelling mistakes, the translation was half-assed, and they left out a few areas because they could never complete them.

FFVII suffered from the worst localization ever, along with some hippie save-the-planet propaganda with a couple of animé clichés thrown in that was supposed to pass for a story.

I think at this time, it is appropriate to say that which story was best is completely a matter of opinion.

Personally, I think they were both excellent stories, and because they were so different, it is difficult to compare them properly. But I'll try anyway.
FFVII was the first of the series to jump the 3D hurdle, but I suppose many people don't like to consider that handicap. The story had one of the best baddies ever created in a video game or otherwise, Sephiroth. Even before you actually met him, you knew about his strength and power. The plot took some weird twists as it progressed, but it was still worth following. As for Cloud's personality... there wasn't much of one, really. The only thing that the main character seemed sure about was finding Sephiroth, but that's about the extent of his thoughts. Though, what made this story great in my opinion, was just the simple quest of trying to 'get' the enemy. You just wanted to see how the game wrapped everything up, and you did. The ending was one of the best in gaming, despite not getting to see what happened to all the characters after the incident. You probably weren't as attached to the FF7 characters as you were to the FF9 characters, but that's because FF9's plot revolved around the central thremes of friendship, love (Zidane and Dagger), physical/mental strength (ie. Vivi, Garnet, etc.) and such. FF7 on the other hand focused on power (Sephiroth, Shinra, etc.), wealth or lack there of (Shinra, Corel, Slums, etc.) , destruction (the Weapons)and so on.
Overall, I'd say I liked them both pretty equally. There are some minor things with both of them that shift the balance a bit, but I don't think they are enough to really call one game better than the other. ((such as the when regent cid 'the frog' had to save the four remaining characters in Kuja's hideout... I detest that mini-game with every fiber of my being))

You guys are trying to take things from one of the games, and find it in the other game, but you can't really do that. Of course they are different, but that's one of the reason the FF series is so successful: because each story is new and fresh... for the most part. Does anyone see what I'm trying to say, or my alone here?

ff7 didnt had that much lighting for a reason because to make the mode of the story sad because there was alot going on like the planet dying or then meteor hitting the planet and shinra taking all the mako of the planet. Also, the ghetto crap part was too make that shinra didnt care about the citizen and also they lived on the bottom section not the top thats y it was make to look like a ghetto place and shinra didnt care about them so they never clean up anything. ff7 teext was filled up wit spelling mistake since barett would be always cussin all the time and to tell u that they never went to school to tell u that they were uneducated. i didnt see no few area missin ff7 so wat r u talking about? unlike ff7 ff9 lacked a good storyline, and good character design, also the gameplay of ff9 was simply so wat is everybody talking in about u need to think, the area was small even smaller than ff8, ff8 rocks better than ff9. Final Fantasy IX may seem like somewhat of a throwback.

You most probably just didn't notice the spelling mistakes, seeing as you can barely spell yourself, fo sh0, shizzle.

And you felt the need to WRITE BIG AND BOLD SO WE COULD INDULGE IN YOUR OPINION!

FF9 did NOT lack a good storyline. 'omfgz meteorz gonna hit us!1111' Sephiroth is waiting for Cloud in nice, tight leather pants!! And FFVII was filled with spelling mistakes because of the swearing? No, the swearing was icing on the cake. FF7 had typos all throughout the dialogue, the swearing is a whole different thing-- Every other word by Cid was %$#$#@ <-- That was intentional, we're talking about spelling mistakes like YOU make. Typos. :)

FF9 had much better FMVs, much better music, and a more beautiful storyline. I doubt you've even played FF9, or at least not all of it.

FFVII is not more emotional than FFIX. The only times I felt sad were during Aerith's death, and when RED XII found the truth about his father. FFIX almost made me cry xO

The character design of FFVII is better, but FFIX owns FFVII in every other way possible. + FMVs, Music, Storyline, Humor.

Actually, at the time, I found FFVII very painful to look at (and still do). I mean, the man I made out of lego blocks looks better than Cloud and his head-sized hands.

But let's get back to the characters, not the graphics.

Cloud
He wields a 20 foot sword, either:
A) Made out of balsa wood or
B) That defies gravity.
He has more uses more hair gel in a day, than I've used in my life. Oh, and he also becomes a cross-dresser so that he can break into a whore house. If he's so strong, why didn't he just use is foam sword on the guards and bust his way in? Did I mention that he doesn't even know his own memories? No, he steals his dead, best friend's. Don't forget, he spends the whole game chasing a demi-goddess wannabe man in tight leather pants that has some gender confusion. And instead of being true to his dead lover, a couple days later (possibly even the same day...) he makes love to his childhood friend. Who does such a thing?

Zidane
He has a monkey's tail. Yes, that's right, a monkey's tail. He has an ugly hair cut too, and he's short, so I hate him. But wait, he's a theif! That's cool. And at least he wields a weapon that he can at least pick up. He's immature, yes, but at least he chases after only one girl. Sure, it's a princess, who seems out of his league, but hey, he's not dishonouring his dead lover at least. He's also from another planet. But in order to save our's, he has to watch his 'father' die, and then kill his brother. The tragedy.

Tifa
There's no way those are natural, yet she still prances around showing them off, just like a slu-- I'll leave that up to you to determine. Did I mention that she takes advantage of people? Her childhood friend's lover dies, so she jumps all over the chance to...have fun.

Vivi
So what if he's emo? He's nine, he's an orphan, and everyone that is like him, just stops dead in their tracks (no pun intended). Wouldn't you be a little freaked out and on the edge if you were about to just sieze up and freeze? I know I would. But hey, he's a little soldier, and uses magic like Flare, which no one else in the game can.

Okay, that's enough about the characters. Battle system: Do we want to be able to completely stack our party so that we only need three people? Rendering the other four completely useless? Nah, that's no fun. Materia suck. Give everyone crap like Mastered All, Mastered Heal and you can't lose. Maybe throw in KotR, which I never got, because I didn't need an overly-powerful move to beat an easy game. FFIX, on the other hand, had a balanced battle system. The characters all had their own abilities and what not, an thus, could all be used effectively and effictiently. They were needed, unlike a certain some four people I know. Yes, I'm looking at Barret, Tifa, Yuffie and that THING.

I'm done...for now

Graphics and sound have nothing to do with the story. As for the music/sound: The tunes were annoying, and it's not because they were made years before FF7, the tunes were just plain annoying. The location music of FF9 had smoother music. As for the graphics, one word: Legos.

FF9 had the overall better story. If you think FF9 wasn't more emotional, than you actually need to play it someday before you say FF7 is better XP

Tisk tisk, that is like saying older things HAVE to be worse. I think FF9 looks better then X-2. ya wanna know why? Because FF9's world's theme's characters' and storyline were all an ingenious work of art.

Ever guess that the SAME person made the music for both FF7 and FF9? FF9 was indeeed some of his best work. The music fit just about everything perfectly. FF7's tracks became to repetitive, and overused, and there weren't many good themes at all. Most were just fairly decent.

Cloud is more of a depressed emo child then Vivi. Atleast Vivi can pull off the emo look by making everyone love and huggle him, Cloud runs Tifa crazy with his emo attitude, to the point where he almost looses him. Hes a depressed thug on narcotics.

Zidane on the other hand is a playa. Why do people hate him for that? Unless you have no interest in people, same or opposite sex, at all, then I suggest you just throw that arguement out. He loves Garnet, he likes to touch her arshe, and what's wrong with that? Atleast FF9 had humor in it. I liked how they could keep the entire story going serious, and at the same time add funny tidbits, that not only showed you a more enjoyable side to the world, but kept you interested. How does that make the game kiddy? Atleast it was better then every character having a prissy mood the entire story, AKA ff7.

Now the female leads:

A) Tifa: This anerexic plastic slut doll had no backstory at all except for the fact that she was gaga for Cloud. All she does is prance around trying to get some action. Her story is so lackluster in fact, that you dont get anything out of it at all except for the Niblehem events, which are still half told.

B) Garnet: Garnet is someone anyone could put themselves into. She has a life. She wants the best for her kingdom. When you first meet her you can tell so much about her just from her sadness. She isnt a plastic doll.

__________

Every other character in FF7 had no backstory. Most had a "town" all about them, and that seemed more like a sidetrack from the actual story. On the other hand, each of FF9's characters had backstory, and you learned and interacted with each throughout the story. the addition of ATE let you see the story from different perspectives.
