Re: Final Fantasy IX - "This is an age-old ritual between friends!"

So can someone provide a list of what the differences in gameplay and game design between PS1 and Steam. I already own the PS1 (Greatest Hits) version, which I still enjoy very much and replay often, and I am thinking of purchasing a PC steam version, but I don't want to buy a game I already own. Other than improved graphics and different controls system, is there anything new in the steam version has to offer. Any new content?

There's no "new" content, it's the same game. However, there are new options and you can use a few boosters:

• High speed mode (5x all movement speeds, both in and out of battle) (F1/RB on pause menu)
• No random encounters (F4/RT on pause menu)
• Skippable cutscenes
• Disable pre-battle camera fly-bys (found in Config menu)
• Auto-battle (J/RT during battle)
• Always full ATB/Trance/HP/MP (F2/LB on pause menu)
• 9999 damage on all attacks (F3/LT on pause menu)
• Master abilities, equipping an item automatically unlocks its abilities permanently (F5/in Config menu)
• Level and magic stone max (F6/in Config menu)
• Gil max (F7/in Config menu)

I don't use most of these since they completely break the game. High speed mode and no encounters are really nice though, even more so when you want to explore. Having the option to turn off pre-battle camera is also good to speed up random encounters.

Same here, don't see much use. Now if we were talking about an actual remake....

I think it's great they are trying to make the game accessible to such a broad audience though after essentially ignoring it since the PS1 era. It seems like they've done a really good job with the port. If I literally hadn't just finished an extreme playthrough of this right before they'd announced it, it would have been a day one purchase.

Zidane and Garnett are some of my favorite video game couples.

I'm refreshing the Australian store like mad, I want it to be available soon.

Additional elements
· Trophy function, share function
· Seven types of boost functions such as high speed mode, no encounter etc, which can be used from the configuration in the game menu, pause screen and no game
· Auto save function
· High resolution of characters and movies

Edit: it's available and the theme comes with it. I'm downloading it now :D

Sooooo excited about this, I was hoping they would follow suit after 7! Kinda disappointed that they skipped 8, but I won't complain, happy we at least got 9.

Just like the PS4 port of FFVII this too suffers from music restarting after battles rather than picking up where it left off. And just like that game, they probably won't fix it.

I got the pc version, so prolly not going to bother with this one since it's basically the same thing. ^^

I only need one copy; and yes the theme's nice but two copies is not my thing. ^^

I have the original for PS1, PS3/Vita, and I have the Steam version. Still gonna buy it for PS4, it would just be my preferred way of playing it and I love the game so I don't mind.

I'll definitely get it one day, bt since I have the steam version, I'm not desperate on getting it right now.

The Steam, mobile, and PS4 versions are all exactly the same, even down to the same bugs. You should be fine just getting one on our preferred platform.
