I'm a bit sad that they just revealed on UX

To be fair, it wasn't supposed to happen like this. These had to be extracted from the game by dedicated fans with the skills to do it.

Granted, they should have seen that coming because people do this all the time for mobile games, but they just put them there so it was ready after the actual reveal (probably to have them on sale the day after) along with all the promotional stuff for The Lion King.

I don't know if anyone mentioned this (sorry if someone had), but I wonder if this hints to be showed off next month in a new KH3 trailer. Or released as screenshot/png of her outfit in the game.

For sure. It's also indicated by the other avatar parts shown in the image, as June is the month of Lion King's screen debut.

I find it Ironic people are complaining about the skirt being long, when we dont know how long it'll be on her since our only source of reference on how it'll sit on her body is currently for a chibi design. Honestly I can see it either coming down around her knees: either on them, or just above them. The frill and 'poof' of it all sort of fits given that shes a Princess of Heart, and that really does look like a dress a princess might wear to combat in a fantasy setting.

Then again they could be taking ques from RWBY and its a full blown combat-skirt, like Ruby and Weiss's dresses.

Ah, it's like people will never be satisfied. There's the ones who are disappointed by her not wearing pants, there are people disappointed by her color scheme, there are people disappointed because they wanted a dress but NOT AS LONG (probably the same people who formerly complained that her dress was too short), there are people disappointed about her boots??

I like her outfit. It keeps the color scheme that KH2 established. The boots are amazing and while a pop of pink in them would've been great, they look super comfortable and practical, not to mention they emphasize her tomboyish ways. The dress is cute, the plaid isn't overbearing. I like how it might poof out - it allows for a bigger movement range. Also thank you @raccoonscity for the comparison between KH2 and KH3 Kairi on an actual avatar model - I didn't expect her dress to pass her knees and it looks like this might be its length. I think it's great to allow for modesty and movement all the same. And also yes, she's a princess, she can pull off frills. We had Aqua with her sashes that hinted at a dress before and her movements look amazing and graceful, I can only imagine how awesome and pretty Kairi's movements might look like while still being fully functional and practical. I've seen people compare her to Queen Minnie in design and I agree - it's also really cute seeing how Sora was designed with Mickey in mind and if that's truly it, it would be a really cute detail and throw back to KH1!

And I seriously love her boots. Whoever thinks badly laced up chucks are better for fighting than combat boots should sit down and think again.

If you compare the two, you can see that that is the same outfit from the union x anniversary artwork. I love the design. It blends Disney princess with Kairi's signature style. Also, as far as practicality, a dress can be just as practical as pants if cut correctly, and I think Kairi will be a keymage anyway.

In terms of practicality, as someone who plays Dynasty Warriors and its many spin-off games, i've played as female characters in lose flowy gowns, trench coats, mermaid-dresses, Cinderella style gowns, kimonos, and all sorts of things. In a game thats all about Disney characters fighting off the darkness the idea of her fighting in a dress seems impractical? WUT? since when does practicality have anything to do with fantasy. And even then, as i mentioned before, RWBY has this thing called a combat-skirt which female huntresses use all the time.

And speaking of skirts, honestly? I wouldn't mind if it had a bit more 'poof' too it, would certainly fit with her being what is essentially a Disney Princess. Maybe something similar to Ruby from RWBY:

Honestly I would prefer something more like this, in terms of skirt design/function, over it hugging her body. I remember hearing about in the japanese version of KH2 so many people were taking photos of the underside of her skirt, they flat out removed her pelvis in the western release, and in KH2FM. So giving her a dress with poof would prevent that from happening again.

That’s true. Her KH2 design was so bad. I’m not crazy about her KH1 clothes either, but I always did like the colors used and the shoes.

But I think I like this even without comparing it to her former outfits. The buttons are my favorite part, but I also like the belt and how the ends of the skirt are split into two sides. The boots are cute, too. I guess I don’t really mind her outfit being pink? I would say this outfit is mature, in a feminine way. Not that she needs to be overly feminine, but the character has been that way from the beginning, so it would almost feel out-of-character not to be at this point. Short-short skirt or knee-length skirt, I don’t think it would make any difference to her battle potential.

I hope she gets a new Keyblade in this game. I really don’t mind if they give her something that’s flowery and ornate, just nicer-looking than the Keyblade in KH2.

The skirt's not actually long(ya gotta take into acount the adjustment to the sizes between khux and kh3), and it kinda seems like an upgrade to her kh2 outfit which I'm completely okay with that.

Again, we don't know how long or short it is since its, again, being compared to a chibi. Though honestly I think it'd look nicer if it was long rather than giving her a repeat of her KH2 outfit. Case-in-point I found this one piece of fan art on twitter I think would fit her quite nicely. It has teh poof <3

I think it'd look better if it were knee length, as opposed to it being a hip-hugging mini skirt. It'd help to differentiate the design from her KH2 appearance.

I agree with you 100%, but it's the double standard this reinforces which bothers me. Girls/women have to carry out this delicate balancing act of presenting their assertive character without ever losing that "feminine virtue" heavily associated with youth and girlhood and purity (all represented within the stereotypical "princess" persona), but boys/men aren't constrained by that set of factors when considering their presentation, and that's really on display here. We've seen this dominant color shift in both Sora and Riku's clothing towards subdued blacks and greys, and if I didn't like that before I really don't like it now in how it sets them apart from Kairi aesthetically. If Sora was still sporting bright yellows and reds and Riku was steeped in greens and blues I would feel more confident in how their shared status coheres, but the impression Nomura sends with these outfits (intended or not) is that Sora and Riku have grown into young adulthood while Kairi is still just a girl, and that's a bad dynamic to go with from the outset.

Gotta say, by the end of this paragraph, you really articulated your point well. Felt like you were reaching a bit at the start, but I totally agreed with you by the end. I'd still like to wait to see the outfit in KH3 to properly judge how it appears and how proportionate it is to Kairi's body, but you're right about how Sora and Riku's outfits feel more mature and evolved whereas Kairi's does give off a feeling that she's being kept in the "princess" cage.
