Axel just wanted Roxas back. He kidnapped Kairi in the hopes he could get Sora back, and he was helping Saix in the bargain.
Axel wants Roxas = Axel helping Saix to achieve ends with Sora.
Besides, Vexen was the crackpot scientist that noone really liked anyway.

Sephiroth in KH2 was piss easy. PISS EASY. KH1 was much harder and I still beat him.

We know why he kidnapped Kairi. Everyone here has played KH2 and knows why it went down.

No, Xaldin was easy.. well not exactly 'easy' but not overly difficult. all I had to do was save up a couple of jumps and and heal. Not difficult.

He does have a kinda sad story. He's got a good bit of screen time in BBS.

But the most tragic story I think, is Sora's. Stuck using a giant Key as a weapon which is only useful for batting away shadow things and unlocking shit. His best friend was turned to the darkness and came back, his girlfriend went into a coma and didn't see him for a year, and he's been killing the same guy over and over again.
Also bear in mind that Sora is the illegitimate child of Square Enix and Disney, which means he'll be a prepubescent boy no matter how old he gets, and he's the reason most of the KH Characters have died, more so than anyone else in the game. Talk about tragic, Sora is a walking disaster off of his training wheels.
