Everything I loved about the movie involved the main 5. I thought they were perfectly casted and that they had such wonderful chemistry together. Though, I still think the film could have benefitted from a few more group-building scenes.
Rita was fun to watch, but I'm still not sure what her motivations were. We're told she wants more power, but why? The weakest parts of the film, in my opinion, were all the stuff including Zordon and Rita. You could argue that "everything is implied" but it's not even really implied enough to where you can draw your own ideas with enough evidence to support it.
Also, Zordon is a major dick. Tbh, even by the end of the movie, I didn't really like him. Tbh, seeing how he was acting with the new Rangers, I'm not surprised Rita turned out the way she did on his team. Plus, he was kinda missing a personality. He's just there to get angry and then be distracting by moving his face around everywhere. Kind of a shame, considering the actor they got to portray him really tried to give the role more than it had in this cut of the film.
The effects were better than I thought they were going to be, but nothing too special at some points. Kinda reminded me of Thor 2, only this was a much, much more entertaining and fun film.
Kinda wish they woulda saved Tommy for a third film insteada the second. There's still a lot more I think they need to do with the core 5, Zordon, and Rita that I feel like adding another main, good or bad, would probably just hamper that, unless he plays a subvillain role with Rita to help vastly expand on her.
Anyway, I'll probably go see it again. The first and second third are what makes the movie, and they're definitely the most solid. That isn't to say thr final third isn't fun or has it's moments, but it definitely didn't feel as fine-tuned compared to the rest of the movie.
Also, am I the only one who is glad that Rita and Trini subplot didn't turn into a dumbass betrayal plot for Trini to be shamed and have to regain the team's trust? Cuz I was sure glad it didn't go down like that, after all.
