Ok, so ive completed Terra's story, and im a little lost with the scene with Terra at destiny islands with Sora and Riku. Two questions.

1. Is that guy Terra sees when looking at riku a younger master xehanort?

and 2. Why if Terra anointed Riku to be a keyblader wielder, did sora become one?

thanks for any help.

1. Yes. It's meant to show that young MX and Riku took very similar paths.
2. Sora didn't become one until KH1 when Riku pretty much gave up his power to wield the blade and the keyblade that was meant to go to Riku instead went to Sora.

Er...asir is right about the second one...
Not according to Nomura he isn't. Nomura said Sora didn't gain anything from being connected to Ven which means Sora got the Keyblade by himself, by touching the light of Riku's heart.

New keyblade rules=you have to have

1) a strong enough heart

2) have touched the keyblade of a qualified keyblade master(Aqua officially, Terra Unofficially are masters)

Sora seems to be the exception(unless it's Ven).

The idea of having to be chosen by a master is new. Back in KH1, the keyblade was "the" legendary weapon, only a few existed. Now we know armies of keyblade wielders existed.

Eh, back in KH1, there were still a lot of Keyblades out there.
But, the amount of course has died down, since there have been fewer Keyblade Masters to pass on the ability.

The place where dark and light intersect to make..
For every rule, there is an exception.

Sora is the exception.

lol, could you imagine Nomura's explanation:

Interviewer: So, how is it that Sora can wield the keyblade, he has gone through no inheritance ceremony?

Nomura: (Laughs) Well, this is one of those mysteries that could possibly change the course of the history forever, but I cannot go into detail. Please wait for TGS for more information. I'll give a hint though: It might have something to do with the fact that Aqua keyblade slightly brushed up against Sora when she wasn't looking.

There were three.....the KK, the IKK, and the Keyblade of People's Hearts.

This "master" rule wasn't mentioned and did not exist until later.

Three that we knew of, sure.
But, even back during KH1, Nomura was quick to say that there were many others:
—Do you mean to say that there are other “Keyblade Heroes”?
NOMURA:
Well, undoubtedly there are other “Keyblade Heroes”

That needs to be in KH3's script

More like:

Nomura: (Laughs) well, there is a certain mystery to its existence which is tied into the nature of the keyblade's existence, and the true form of which though inconcievable at the present time has probably been brushed up against breifly in the past of the series without witholding intentional knowledge of future events.

I thought the keyblade chose Sora when Riku turned to the darkness, which is why it was going back and forth between Him and Riku once you reached Hollow Bastion in the first game. To be fair, though, I get the feeling that whilst Nomura had the actual plot of the series outlined in his head from fairly early on, most of the little technical elements of it didn't become certain until later.
