I don't really follow music. That's not my scene. I read comic books and listen to podcasts. But I'm now tired of listening to same shit I've been listening to since I was 15. So give me your absolute must haves. I don't give a shit what genre. I'm not picky. Seriously. I'm not at a stage where I want to be selective about genre. I just want good music.

What albums of the last three years would make me an absolute deadshit for not having?

Come at me, bros.

Nowhere in particular.
Anything by Eyeshine. My all-time favorite band. They're Edge Rock, which is what they call their music. It's pretty much a blend of post-grunge and pop-punk. Think of bands like TakingBackSunday, Jimmy Eats World, and the like. If you like rock, you'll like them.

EDIT:

Tone of Echoes - Eyeshine
Revolution Airwaves - Eyeshine
Fall Seven Times, Stand Up Eight - Eyeshine

Alter Bridge - AB III
I'd begin with the band's previous album Blackbird personally, but since you set the limit to albums from the past three years, I'll start with this gem. It's a bit too long for me, but there's a lot of great songs on this album. The majority of the album deals with the concept of a person losing their religious belief and struggling with other forms of the loss of innocence (i.e. death of a loved one, reflecting on your youth as you grow older). The final song, Words Darker Than Their Wings, is absolutely superb.

Alter Bridge - Fortress
Definitely the highest recommendation I can give you out of any albums I've heard in the past several years, and really in general. This album literally just came out last week, but I've had the opportunity to listen to it since middle-to-late September. This is an absolute masterpiece. One of the best hard rock/heavy metal albums ever made, in my book.

Janelle Monae - The ArchAndroid
One of the best pop/R&B albums I've ever heard. Monae is incredibly talented and her songs are really intelligent. Both this album and the one I'm about to mention are a part of an ongoing original story she came up with. Large range here.

Janelle Monae - The Electric Lady
Personally, I prefer this album over its predecessor, but both are brilliant examples of R&B and pop music. This one focuses a bit more on R&B though.

TesseracT - Altered State
I can't describe this album in an accurate way that would do it justice. Right up there with Fortress, in my book. Truly sublime.

I'll think up more musical suggestions for you soon, Stooge!

Bitter:Sweet - The Mating Game (Electronic/Jazz)
Woodkid - The Golden Age (Neofolk)
Fun. - Be Calm (Indie Pop)
Pomplamoose - Mr. Sandman (Indie)
Jeff Bernat - If You Wonder (R&B)

Bitter:Sweet is a wonderful mix of classy/sexy. Woodkid's music makes you feel like you're in an epic film (Apocalypto first comes to mind) (also great music to listen to while working out). Fun is arguably my favorite band, because their songs fittingly sound "fun" (particularly the Aim and Ignite album; still forming my opinion on Some Nights, which at the very least is still good...Just pretty different from their first album).

If you haven't listened to, or even heard of Audioslave, you've been living under a rock, mate.

Albums:

Audioslave

Out of Exile

Revelations

Overall the albums are good, but as with most things, some songs you'll find better than others. If you enjoyed listening to Tom Morello play in Pacific Rim's theme, you'll enjoy Audioslave's sound.

Sweet as. So it's going to take me a while to get through some of these recommendations. I take a while to warm to albums but I'm looking forward to getting through some of these. So far I've downloaded

* CHVRCHES - The Bones of What You Believe
* The Weeknd - Kiss Land
* Lorde - Pure Heroine
* Arctic Monkeys - AM
* Neon Trees discography

I've already got some stuff by Frank Ocean and Kendrick Lamar, and I have fun's Some Nights and Grouplove's Never Trust a Happy Song already.

Sins of My Youth is better. :\

wat.

Did you not see the stipulation that recommendations be from the last three years? Audioslave broke up years ago. Of course I have their diddlying albums.

If you downloaded AM then their earlier stuff is certainly worth a look. Great band, a personal favourite.

My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy and Violent Waves (Circa Survive) are within the last three years, though the latter's earlier stuff is (wait for it) better imo; Juturna and On Letting Go especially. Port of Morrow by The Shins is fun, often relaxing music.

Arctic Monkey's entire discography is amazing. Seeing how they've matured across the albums is crazy.

And the influence from Josh Homme when he produced Humbug.

It's all so good.

Habits is just an amazing album. Kind of disappointed by Picture Show.

I do have to applogize, though; I read the thread title and went straight in with songs, not albums like you asked. But whatever, my shit's legit. B)

Okay I'm gonna correct something... Don't listen to the entirety of The Weeknd's Trilogy, only listen to Disc 1 "House of Balloons," which are tracks 1-10. All 3 of the discs were his original mixtapes, just remastered.

House of Balloons is considered to be by far his best.
