Suikoden VI

Chapter I
Two Destinies Intertwined

“Then you leave me no choice.” replied his father. “You have disappointed me, Sasarai. But I cannot let you interfere with my plans. I am sorry, but I must send you into exile.”
“But, father!” said Sasarai as a tear rolled down his cheek.
“Grow up, this is politics. You are two years older than me and yet you still always se everything in black and white.” said Luc.
Then Hikusaak called in four guards to escort Sasarai to the dungeon. Sasarai could have easily defeated them but he knew it would only make matters worse and his father could use the True Holy Rune. So he fought not and walked with them cooSasarai walked down the long, empty, hall. The walls where covered with elegant tapestries and paintings.
“Why have I been summoned on such short notice? Does he not know how busy I am? I just hope that this ordeal ends soon enough; I am quite busy at this time.” thought Sasarai as he approached the large, door into the war room.
He opened the doors and then slowly entered. There, was his father, Hikusaak, and his brother, Luc.
“Ah, there you are son. I have been waiting. Now, let’s get down to business; please, take a seat.” said Hikusaak as he and Luc sat down at a large, wooden table.
Sasarai closed the door behind him then sat down with them.
“What do you wish to discuss, father?” said Sasarai.
“Well, I have decided to declare war on Dunan.” replied Hikusaak.
“What!?” exclaimed Sasarai in shock. “War against Dunan? Are you mad? We have been at peace with them for over fifty years! Since then we have not had any trouble! We signed a one-hundred year peace treaty with them and we are only half-way through it! Besides, Harmonia is a Holy Nation! Harmonia is a refuge for the weak and persecuted. We gladly take in all who need protection, safety and freedom with open arms.”
“They could strike at us at any time, it would be wise to attack them before they have an opportunity to plot their betrayal.” said Luc coldly.
“Exactly.” said Hikusaak. “My son, do you not understand why I am doing this? Fifty years ago-”
“Yes, I know the story!” interrupted Sasarai. “But we did defeat them. It was close, but we prevailed. And we also know hot use the True Holy Rune’s full power. We had only obtained it then.”
“Then, you do not approve of my decision?” asked Hikusaak.
“No. Not at all. In fact, I will do everything in my power to stop you from commencing such a despicable crime. I will not allow you to mar the name of Holy Harmonia.”
peratively down the hall and down many staircases and into the dungeon.
“We will come to escort you to the harbor at dusk. I am sorry to do this Sasarai.” said one of the guards.
“I understand.” replied Sasarai. Then the guards left and Sasarai sat down on the cold, hard, floor.
After several hours Hikusaak and a few guards entered the dungeon.
“Are you ready for your punishment, Sasarai?” asked Hikusaak.
“No.”
“Too bad. You will be exiled to Mordo Island. If you remember your geography, witch I presume you do; it is a small, deserted island to the west of Zexen.”
“Let’s just get this over with.”
Then the guards took Sasarai out of the cell and escorted him to the harbor and onto a small ship. They sailed for about five hours then they took a small row boat off the side and tossed it into the water.
“Here is your boat. Mordo island is about five miles away. I believe it will take quite a while to reach the shore. I suggest you start immediately.” said Luc as Sasarai crawled down the ladder into the boat.
“I wish that you would see our father’s error and stop him from making the biggest mistake in the history of Harmonia.” said Sasarai.
“But it is you who made the mistake. You only see things in black and white, you do not see different shades of gray. Goodbye brother, I shall miss you.”
Then the ship set off, leaving Sasarai completely alone. He then took two oars and began to row, although very horribly for he is not used to any physical work at all.
“Oh Luc, you have disappointed me as my brother. You always did look up to father so. I just wish that you could think for yourself and not always have to act just like him.”
After several hours of rowing Sasarai finally reached land. He got out and pulled the boat onto the shore. He then wander around the beach gathering pieces of wood to build a fire. While he was bending over to grab one he fell to his knees and felt an odd feeling in his right hand.
“Agh! What is japanning? My . . . My hand.” Then a bright, white light began to emit from his hand. It was glowing for about a minute until it finally stopped. He looked at it and a strange symbol was imbedded on the back of his hand. “It’s . . . the True Holt Rune? But how? Ah, I know, because my father was impure and decided to do such an unholy thing the Rune left him and chose me as it’s next Bearer.” Then he blacked out and fell asleep.
After a few hours Sasarai finally woke up. He rose to his feet and then took a flint and steel out of his pocket and tried to light a fire with the pile of sticks he had found earlier. And after many, many attempts he succeeded in igniting the sticks.
“Ok, now that I have that going, I should get a few of those logs under that tree.” Then he grabbed one of the moss-covered logs and drug it over to the fire.
Then all of a sudden he heard some one sneezing, then a young woman appeared right in front of him.
“Oops, did I just blink to a new place?” said the girl woman as she looked around her at the island.
“Um, I beg your pardon?” said Sasarai.
“Where am I?”
“This is Mordo island. It is a very small, remote island. You and I are probably the only intelligent beings on this island.”
“Oh dear, I did it again. Well, I’m Viki by the way.”
“It is a pleasure to meet you Viki, I am Sasarai.”
“Sasarai? You are Sasarai, prince of Holy Harmonia?”
“Yes, that I am.”
“Then what are you doing on a deserted island?”
Sasarai thought for a moment, he felt that he could trust this Viki, and he saw no way that her or anyone for that matter could use this information wrongfully. He wanted Dunan to find out, so that they could prepare.
“Well, it is a long story, let us sit down for this. My father, Hikusaak, has decided to break the peace treaty with Dunan and attack them. I told him it was not the right thing to do and it was foolish. But he is stubborn and close minded. So he had me exiled so that I could do nothing to stop him.”
“DUNAN!? But, I live in Dunan!”
“Oh no. Hey, is there any way you know of that we can get off this island and go to Dunan?”
“Well, I am a teleportress, but, all I can teleport is something small. Although, sometimes when I sneeze I accidentally teleport myself to somewhere I have never been before.”
“You can teleport? Tell me, what Rune do you bear?”
“Well, my mother says I was born with the Blinking Rune, although I really don’t understand what a Blinking Rune is. The only Runes I know of are Fire, Water, Lightning, Wind, and Earth.”
“Oh my, you have a True Rune!”
“A True Rune? What is that?”
“You have never heard of the True Runes?”
“No, I have no idea what they are.”
“Well, a True Rune is just like a normal Rune except you are granted vast power, even more powerful than normal Runes. And you also obtain immortality, agelessness. You never age and you cannot get sick or die of natural causes, only by blade. There are twenty-seven.”
“So, I have a True Rune, and I can never grow old or die?”
“Yes, you can still die though, just not of old age or illness.”
“Oh, no I know why I have not aged very much over thirty years, I still look eighteen.”
“Yes, agelessness can be quite a prison cell, it really not a great as everyone believes so. In fact, I have just obtained a True Rune, the True Holy Rune- Wait! You said you where from Dunan, and you can teleport small things, correct?”
“Yes, oh! I see what you are saying. We can teleport a message to the Dunan president and he can prepare for Hikusaak’s attack.”
“Yes, but . . . They may not take just a not seriously. If only we could go there ourselves.”
“Wait! But we can! I can teleport a message to my uncle, Rin. He can use his airship to come get us.”
“What is an ‘Airship’? “
“It’s like a ship, except is can fly through the air like a bird.”
“Amazing, I have never heard of such a thing in Harmonia.”
“Well it is my uncle’s invention. He took his ship and then added many propellers and a few Wind Runes into the walls and masts. Luckily he is in Zexen, so he will be able be here in only a day. All I have to do is teleport him a message, then he will come rescue us.”
“Well I certainly am glad I always keep a few small sheets of paper and a pen inside my pocket. Here you write it our, it look like a trap or something if it was not written in your hand.”
“Ok, Just give me a few minutes.”
Then Viki turned around and set the paper on a stump and began to write the letter. After a few minutes it was done. She folded it and then touched it with her staff and it instantly vanished.
“There, now we just have to wait. I presume he should be here in about a day.”
“I guess we will have to camp out until then. And when he does arrive, we must go to Dunan immediately.”
“Yes, of course.”
