I remember my wife recommending the title to me years ago, assuming she meant the anime title. I watched season 1 of it, and wasn't very impressed. It had a good thing going on in the early episodes but then they just turned up the ecchi fanservice that I don't even know what was going on anymore.

The premise and setting were promising but then it just went HighSchool DxD on me (which BTW shared the same case with R+V having a great manga but with a meh adaptation). It just went from focusing on the plot, to focusing on the PLOT; up to the point that the anime didn't know what to do with the main story anymore.
That's typically what happens with anime adaptions of the manga. It doesn't follow completely in line with the manga. Heck, it sometimes goes it's own way.

So I started reading Ragnarok: Into The Abyss again...

Ragnar%C3%B6k_1.jpg

And man... it just reminded me how much of a shame that the author has discontinued this Manwha. Basically the author just dropped everything and just helped in the production of its online game counterpart (Ragnarok Online), just like how Blizzard focused on WoW instead of creating Warcraft 4 because money.

I adored the art and action scene panels of this title. It had potential to be an epic title, but then just ended with a cliffhanger then just abandoned altogether. A damn shame.

It seems like the mangaka bit off more than he could chew. I am surprised that he found the time to actually be involved in the online game since mangaka have deadlines and endless hours of drawing, editing, writing, etc. I wonder how his staff was doing.

Well his online game endeavor at first was minimal, with GRAVITY just borrowing concepts from his Manwha. Then it just grew from there. After GRAVITY was bought by Samsung, his ventures just went up by tiers. Eventually becoming a CEO of some chinese comic platform.

Good for him, but I just wished he finished his manuscript for the Manwha instead of dooming it to discontinuation. He did a few omakes or short comics related to the online game but that's about it. Ever since that, he has been avoiding topics about his original manwha like Gaben avoided HL3 queries.

Ah well, people move on I guess.

Yeah, he'll probably never finish his work just like I will never finish Kashimashi: Girl Meets Girl.

The opening threw me off because of the whole UFO thing, it's pretty much you're typical love triangle anime. The girl with the short orange hair was originally a boy that had a crush on the blacked hair girl but was always too cowardly to confess his love for her. He did eventually and ended up getting killed by a UFO, luckily the UFO brought him back to life as a girl. The brown haired girl with the pigtails really doesn't know how to take her friend's change. She was always there for her friend, protecting him from bullies. She is the tomboy of the group and though she maybe conflicted for her friend, she does show signs of wanting to be in a relationship with her.

The black haired girl of the group is the other one in the love triangle and quite frankly she's also the popular girl at school. Everybody loves her and she is concerned about her feelings for the orange haired girl, especially since the other girls have told her that it's wrong to like girls. The orange haired girl has to deal with her perverted dad, her mom that is thrilled to have a daughter to dress up now, the media, the aliens that killed and ressurected her who are now living with her and her parents, and her feelings for her crush and her childhood friend.

Read 2 titles my co-workers recommended for me this weekend, both have common themes in them, Overpowered Protagonists.

First one is Gun x Clover

Story of a rookie merc in an escort mission to save a girl with supernatural powers and with 7 different personalities. While the protagonist acts like a weak rookie, he's actually one of the 13 Master ranked mercenaries in the world. His character reminded me pretty much of Edward Elric from FMA, whenever you call him a "shrimp" or short, he'll go berserk and kicks the villain's hiney before they even notice it.
He has a harem but it focuses more on the main heroine and her 7 split personalities, which in time each personality became individual heroines themselves as one by one they fell for the protag.

The story itself is pretty amazing, dealing with military tactics and with memorable characters to boot. Even amusing when the protagonist is forced to act out that he's weak and helpless in the eyes of his fellow classmates as undercover. But when its time for action, he takes control and has half the faculty staff secretly working for him.

What griped me in this title was the weird pacing of the story, but other than that it's good enough.

Next we have AIKI

Story of a man who is a former legend on the martial arts world, whom was then had his body and techniques sealed away by his father. He was then caught up between an internal struggle within a school, in which they battle for supremacy.

Now this protagonist is a love him/hate him case. Even when his body is not as top condition as it used to be, he can still beat up opponents with ease; not to mention he was still a genius when it comes to martial arts, using his knowledge to teach his students. On the other hand, the MC is a complete douchebag and a troll and a massive sleazeball; but most of the time, he is just laid-back with a disinterested demeanor about him, like Saitama from OPM.

In the first chapters, the fight scenes were something of note. The anatomy and perspective were beautifully drawn each panel. But then as the chapter progress, I noticed that the fight scenes were slowly becoming rushed. Before you have blow-for-blow shots, now you just see them zipping through with motion lines and what not. I feel like the manga's former greatest strength became its greatest weakness, the fight scenes were not as interesting anymore.

Maybe, the mangaka had a deadline fastly approaching, so he felt like he and his staff needed to rush to meet the critical deadline? Maybe, he couldn't think of what to do to make the fight scenes epic. After all, it gets hard to be creative once in awhile.

It's been awhile since I've last seen Hamtaro or even given Kashimashi a chance.

Anyone read this? It's called Rain.

Kinda reminded me of the old school Fire Emblem games with its setting of medieval fantasy. Basically Rain (the titular main character) is a lovable douche and a despicable ladykiller but has the swagger and puts his mouth where the money's at. He's a mighty general, a battlefield prodigy and a good leader to his subordinates.

I haven't read that far into the story but I'm loving the main character and how he always trolls everyone. It's not heavy but rather light-hearted so far, as it has comedic moments. It's a good read.

IIRC the 90's one was more comedic and focused more on the Slice-of-Life. The 2015 one (especially the prequel OVA) was an epic ride from start to finish.
Doesn't the 1990's version have ten episodes compared to the 2015 remake? I also read that the Japanese voice actor for Tora in the 1990's version is dead now.

Finally finished.

You know, I own all of FMA, all of Brotherhood, both movies, and the Brotherhood OVAs all on bluray (and I owk the OVAs of the original on DVD). Aside from both OVA sets and the Brotherhood movie though, I haven't actually popped in any of the other discs, I watched all of the episodes weekly on tv and the first movie on the original DVD I owned.

I just find it ridiculous having them basically for the sake of having them. So the point I'm getting to is: I think it's about time for me to rewatch all of this as well.

It's a great anime with great music! The first two seasons are a bit slow, but then it really picks up afterwards.

Has anyone ever seen the 1990's series of Fushigi Yuugi? I got so far in the first chapter of the prequel, Genbu Kaidan.

I have heard of it, but not enough to pique my interest. I also heard a lot of good things about the prequel too.

Anyway...

Finished it. Oh man it was a thrilling ride. The ending could have been better IMHO but it was much better than the anime's. I wish we could have seen more of Akua/Aqua,

latest

by far the most bad-ass of all 4 sisters. She's definitely the best girl for me here. Too bad she didn't make it in the anime, she would have stolen the show. She's a rabid siscon, but with the eyes of a killer; she's definitely someone you don't want to mess with. I wanted to see more of her softening up to Tsukune and the gang.

Spoiler Spoiler Show

Yeah, the manga had some plot holes. I got the impression that Tsukune and the other girls end up getting into a polygamous marriage or something like Moka's father. I would have loved to see more of Akua's backstory. Did we ever get to see her birth mother? I mean, she is the eldest and it would have been interesting to see more of her childhood before she arrived at Moka's place.
