There was an ancient tale describing the story of how, long ago, a beast roamed the Earth brought up from the depths of Purgatory in order to punish the human race for betraying the gods above. The beast spilled the blood of thousands and eventually moved towards the hamlet known as Silent Springs. Here, refugees gathered to fight against the abomination and regain control of their land. A priest known as Geoffrey The Abolisher gave aid to the townspeople when the beast arrived. Many were slaughtered in the struggle, but the beast was sealed in the bottom of Charybdis Lake, Geoffrey being dragged along with it. Ever since, there has been a nightly ritual where one with blood coursing through there veins must be sacrificed in order to give strength to Geoffrey The Abolisher.

Silent Springs since then has been a fairly known tourist attraction, bringing in tourists to keep the local economy stable. Soon, rumor spread of the ritual and the town eventually couldn't continue as a tourist site. Eventually, the townspeople themselves were killing one another to continue the ritual. It soon reached the point where the beast was unleashed and now feasts upon the flesh of the innocent.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
It was ten in the morning, the skies coated with a layer of cumulonimbus clouds, ready to pour rain upon the town and its' inhabitants--well, those that now were in the cemetary. Behind the church was Charbydis Lake, a body of dark, ominous water that housed the beast according to the legendary scriptures. Fog covered the lake and surrounded the First Church of Geoffrey, adding to the intimidating appearance of the town. The only road into town was a bumpy, muck-filled dirt road with the ominous woods surrounding it. This, however, was the least of anyone's worries.

On the shore of Charbydis Lake a figure treaded out of the dark waters, the head taking in the salty breeze as it searched for a scent that the figure was well accustomed to-- a scent that it trained itself to track in order to survive. The tracks along the shoreline were swept away by the roaring tide, smoothing out any abnormalities as the figure scrambled to the graveyard behind the church. There, it lurked and waited for its' first meal to arrive to Silent Springs.

David Yarter drove into a fog, with his headlight's high beams on just to see "Silent Springs" on a sign. He drove in and looked for people, he was low on gas and luckily found a small gas station.
"4.50 a gallon? Fuckin' ridiculous." He walked into the store and saw an older bald man with a crazy look in his eyes and a rough-looking beard on his face behind the counter, he had an even more insane grin when David walked up to the counter, he spoke in a rough Australian accent.
"Well g'morning to ya, what can I get ya? We don't get much business here."
"Uh, twenty bucks on pump one."
"Not a problem, anything else?" Dave was becoming nervous, the man didn't seem right.
"No thanks, I'm fine with the gas. You, uh, have a nice day."
"Hmm... yes, very nice..." David pumped the gas and got back into his car and drove further into town.

Alright, I got my first post in.

Perfect weather for snapping pictures. Kyle thought to himself. On most days the sun would be too bright and the picture would look far too plain, or ugly, or whatever word prestigious photographers around him liked to use. Quaint? No wait, quaint meant something was good. He shook his head to clear it out of his train of thought, only to immediately fall back into it. Clouds made great backgrounds. A picture of a tree with a bright blue sky didn't mean as much as a tree with clouds surrounding it. Looks like he arrived at this quaint town at the perfect time. He blinked. Crap, now I'M the one using those words.

He stopped his car in front of a small park. This place would be good. Magazine editors ate stuff like this up if the story was good enough. He could see it now: Silent Springs Mystery written in large bold letters on the cover of the magazine. The actual cover would be of this park with a Photoshopped sign saying the town's name on the grass. Or maybe Silent Spring Surprise. People loved their alliteration, even if it wasn't the best sounding one around. That'd be the writer's job anyway. Stepping out of the car, he pulled his camera out and began looking for the best place to snap a shot. Eventually he came to a halt in the middle of the park and aimed this camera at a small tree. It was just the right size that he could get all of it in the frame along with some buildings of the town and the dark clouds above. Perfect.

Graveyard behind First Church of Geoffrey

The sounds of a car entering through town was heard easily through the ghost town, the figure's head poking up from the hole its claws had dug in the grave. Hearing the noise led the creature to instinctively clamber up the side of the back of the church, its nose taking in the salty air from the lake behind it, but a familiar scent entered its nasal cavity: Blood and flesh. The figure immediately spotted the source, a young man speaking with one of the residents that had not become prey yet. However, it was much too soon for either of them to be claimed as its' next victim, instead peering farther into the distance.

In the local park, where a small tree stood in the center and the swung was pushed solely by the wind with naught on its' seat. A man adorned with a camera was in the park, capturing a picture of that aforementioned tree. This young man would also have to wait to be preyed upon later. Maybe the figure could snatch them up at the same time, maybe even put up some sort of a struggle. The fight for that kill was what drove the figure wild and it drooled as it thought of the fighting, the screaming, the pain that could be heard as it would rend them limb from limb.

The figure dropped back into the hole and scurried away back into the waters it had grown familiar with.

"Why is that graveyard not gated?" David pulled on the street closest to the church, he walked into the church to find someone to tell him why it was so quiet. "Hello? Anyone in here?" David walked around the church, he even had the thought of snooping around, but it was as if a voice was telling him not to, there was a strange, ominous feeling that overcame him, he wasn't going to investigate, as something let him know, if he did, he would be in grave danger. He left and got into his car, there was a young man taking pictures, he ran over with haste, "Yo, kid, you know what's up with this place?" David wasn't heard, the fog was so thick, it was affecting hearing, he ran to that park and finally reached the man, "Hey kid, you live here? It's pretty damn ominous around here."

Jessica twirled her hair around on her finger once again as she stared out of the car her brother was driving. This trip was a lot longer than she ad expected it to be, but she didn't mind long car trips. Watching everything go by and seeing how long it took for her to stop focusing on certain objects in the background was a fun little activity she used to pass the time. As she watched another tree disappear and changed her sights to a new one, she realized how closed off this town must be. Relatively, at least.

Shaking her head and taking a deep breath, she pushed the thought aside. She wasn't scared, not at all. They had cell phones and, even if she died here, she wasn't scared of the end. She was determined to change that here, though. She would give her life some meaning, somehow, so if she did happen to go... well, something would be lost. Being nothing more than a background character to your famous director big brother got old, anyway.

Oh, right, her brother. Jessica turned to look at him as he drove, but quickly turned back to her window. He'd threatened to turn around and send her home far too many times, so she didn't want to risk it right now. Instead, she pulled the scrunchie out of her hair and let down her side's window so her long hair would fly all around her. She laughed and closed her eyes as she focused on the sensation, but quickly closed her window before her hair was too messed up again. And now she could kill time fixing it up again, hooray!

When Jessica saw that they were finally approaching town, she decided it was the point of no return and he had to include her in the movie now. So, checking in her mirror to make sure her hair was the way she wanted it again, she smiled and asked her brother, "Are we there yet? Are we there yet? Are we there yet?" She had been minamally annoying to him on the whole ride here, she had to say that at least three times before they got out. Instead of paying any attention to the scenery, though, she was looking at her brother with a smile so he would know she wasn't here solely to be a nuisance. She still loved her big brother, after all.

What can only be described as the world's rustiest pickup truck slides to a stop at what appears to be some sort of office. From the driver's side of the truck a man of twenty-three climbs out and spits once on the ground. Normally this wouldn't seem like something odd to most people, but then people would be left wondering why his spit was brown. That's simply because he currently has what is known as a plug in his mouth comprised of Copenhagen dipping tobacco. But that's not the point of this. He simply moves to the back of the truck and reaches into the large metal case against the cab and pulls out a belt loaded with various tools. He finally looks back into the cab and sees the local boy that he's started to pay to help him get things set up and even to find a place to live. After all, Will can't bring his family to a room in the young man's family's house.

"Alright, kid. You ready to get to goin'? Your folks must be wonderin' where you're at about now."

The young man, known as Cross to some of the people around the town, just shakes his head as he climbs out and says, "Nah. Thinkin' about walkin' around for a bit. Might get a bite to eat though."

Will just smiles and says, "Alright, just don't cause any troubles. And might I say, my accent is rubbin' off on ya. Might want to avoid them northern girls until it wears off."

Cross looks at the man a little confused and says, "Why's that? They don't like it or somethin'?"

The man just laughs and says, "Nah, they love it! And that's the problem. Went with a class to New York once. Me and my buddies got swamped by girls wanting to just hear us talk. It was insane!"

"Alright then, I'll try to be careful, but I ain't able to tell the northern girls from the southern girls just yet."

The man nods as he makes his way into the building after tossing the keys to the truck to the boy and finds a spot to relax. He looks around the "office" and starts to think that it looks more like a home than anything else. He eyes the shotgun on the wall left over from the previous resident, something that Will doesn't know if it works or not, before to the refridgerator in the corner. He reaches into the small appliance and pulls out not only a few slices of pizza from the box inside, but also a single bottle of beer. He doesn't care that the pizza is cold, he likes it that way. So with his lunch in hand he falls onto the couch that takes up the wall next to the door and starts to relax.

Cross on the other hand slides around the truck until he finds himself in the seat that Will just gave up. He quickly shuts the door and starts the engine before putting the vehicle in gear. He lets the vibrations of the old truck run through his body for a second before he pulls out onto the dirt road. With a practiced skill he quickly shifts gears with one hand on opens a coke bottle with the other so that he can spit into it. He holds the bottle in his left hand as he drives down the road to get to the diner, but then something catches his eye when he comes to a stop. He quickly kills the engine and climbs out to sit on the roof of the cab while he watches a new vehicle drive into town. He could care less about the driver and the car itself, he's more interested in the girl sitting in the front seat.

Through the clicks of the camera's shutter, something caught Kyle's attention. Outside of the his camera, something barely caught his eye. He though he saw something move on top of the nearby church. Something that was just a tad larger than a crow or whatever bird liked to hang out on top of churches. He quickly turned the camera to the church's direction and snapped a photo. He kept looking into the camera after the shutter opened back up again, but whatever was on top of the church was gone now. Curious, he navigated through the camera options and pulled up the last photo taken on its small screen. What he saw...confused him. It wasn't much, but at the same time it was everything. On top of the church was a large black blur moving to the back of the building and below it. It was either actively trying to make itself hidden, or just had a lucky moment of flight.

"Probably a group of birds flying together." Kyle reassured himself. Just then he heard something calling. Shivers went down his spine as the noise vanished. It sounded like it came from behind him, and Kyle wasn't going to let it get the drop on hi--
"Hey kid, you live here?"
Kyle turned quickly with a "Gwoh shit!" and was face to face with a man around his age. Maybe a bit older. That didn't stop his heart from going 89 miles and hour.
"It's pretty damn ominous around here." The man said.
"Y-yeah. You're telling me." It occurred to Kyle that this man might see something more on the photograph than he himself did. But first introductions where in order. "My name's Kyle." He said, holding out his arm for a good old fashion hand shake. "I'm here visiting on a magazine photo shoot kinda deal. Nothing too fancy. How about you?"

David stuck his hand out and shook the man's hand,
"David. David Yarter. I'm here because I needed some new beginnings, but first I need to find some damn neighbors." David didn't want to stop talking to the younger man, as it was better than the loneliness he was facing ever since his friend was murdered, but he saw a rusty truck drive in town. "Listen, Kyle, was it? I have to take off, but I'll see you around town, just come find me in the motel across the street if you need me. Later." Dave jumped in his Stealth and shifted gear, driving towards the truck. By the time he found it, it was parked outside of a building, not knowing whether to intrude or not.

Luke drove down the old and dusty highway that led to the town of Silent Springs, his car was nothin fancy, but you wouldn't quite call it a beater either, rather, it was the middle ground, a decent looking, dependable car that he'd gotten for graduation the previous year, just enough to make it to the town. In the backseat were tons of old newspaper clippings, printed web articles, and the odd book or two, all centered around the supposed "Beast of Silent Springs", he'd found everything he could about the alleged creature, and had a strong collected knowledge of the things inner workings, or at least, as much as anyone could know. In all honesty he doubted that the creature existed, likely to be another "Big Foot" or "Jersey Devil", but the selling point for him, the reason he'd driven all this way, was that no-one had cashed in on this yet, he knew, if he could get the film just right, then he'd finally have his ticket to fame.

"Almost there, you ready to be famous kid?" He replied to cries of "Are we there yet?!" coming from the girl sitting in the passengers seat next to him, his sister, who'd whined and complained to their parents until they'd forced him to take her, he'd have his revenge though, here she was thinking she'd be the star of the film, but he knew, she'd be lucky if he let her hold the mic. He saw the sign on the side of the road, beat up, decrepit,

"Now entering:
Silent Springs"
It read, unfortunately the last line, declaring population, had been vandalized, covered with a thick splotch of black paint. Thinking nothing of it, he gave his sister a grin, "And now, we're here. Ready for the nightmares to begin?" He said teasingly.

He had no idea how right he was.

Jessica nodded excitedly. Being famous wasn't so much the goal as finding something she wanted to be. Maybe that thing was famous, though. Checking her reflection one more time, out of boredom rather than any vanity, she saw the town's sign in her peripheral vision. Had she imagined it, or was the population not on there? She didn't know why, but the thought sent a sudden chill down her spine. If this was really haunted, then maybe someone marked that out because the population changed so much? As in... it decreased too rapidly for that sign to ever stay accurate very long? Her chest started to feel a little heavy, but she managed to keep her breathing even and at least look unaffected. Maybe she did have a future in the acting business.

Her brother asking if she was ready for the "nightmare" helped calm her down again, though. The words themselves may have been scary, but coming from her brother in such a joking way, it made her feel like everything was going to be okay.

They had each other at least, if it did turn out to be a nightmare.

As soon as the car came to a stop, Jessica opened her door and got out to stretch. The long ride left her feeling just a little stiff. "Hello, Silent Springs!" Jessica called, as she rose her arms high and bent backwards a little. When she finished, she dropped her hands quickly and ran to her brother's side of the car, opening the door for him. "Are you ready to get started?" she asked, looking around. Knowing him, he'd try and limit her screentime somehow, but she wasn't going to allow that.

She noticed a boy sitting on the roof of a truck, and for a second she was sure that his eyes met hers. Was he staring at them? She looked down at her brother instead as she felt her ears heat up a little. No... it was a coincidence. It was still unnerving, but she tried to take her mind off of it. "Where should we start?" She asked Caleb, glancing back at the boy again to get a better look.

Cross has to admit that the girl is rather attractive. Even more so than some of the Idols back in Japan. With that he decides to take the chance to talk to her and drops off the roof of the truck, making it a good six feet drop. When he lands he bends his knees a little to absorb the impact only to rise back to his feet. He starts to take a step towards her but stops when he suddenly remembers something about girls. With that he quickly turns to face the truck again and spits on the ground once. It doesn't bother him that he's losing the dip in his mouth because it had already lost flavor anyways. So he pulls it out with his finger and tosses it under the truck before reaching in and pulling a bottle of mouth was from the cab. He swishes that around in his mouth for a bit to really rinse everything out and spits it onto the ground before wiping his face with a rag in his back pocket.

"Alright, that should do it."

He turns to walk back towards the girl only to notice that something else is happening. This time he sees a man walking towards him. Normally this wouldn't be anything new, but this man obviously wasn't from around here. Even Cross could tell that much. So he just leans against the door of the truck and takes off the hat on the head and uses it to wipe a little sweat from his brow before tossing it into the truck. At this point he notices another in the seat and pulls it out to place it on his head

"Hey kid, any of your folks with ya?"

"Sorry, but my folks are in Japan and my Aunt is off workin'. I was about to get me somethin' to eat so you might want to try for info in there."

Kyle could only wave as David left for whatever errands he had to get done. He didn't get a chance to show him the picture he took, but maybe that was for the best. If David was a new resident here there was no reason to scare him by showing him a picture of birds flying together at an accidentally perfect time together. Besides, he had his own things to take care of. Like looking for more photogenic areas around town. He briefly thought about going to the church for a closer snapshot, but something told him that was a bad idea. Instead he got back in his car and pulled out a map he had gotten of the town, looking around for a restaurant.

"Alright, thanks kid." David entered his car and parked in-front of the lake. He went to pull out a cigarette, "Shit, all out." He was then surprised by the strange very loud splash in the water behind him, as if something large sunk in. Dave could only imagine what it might have been and looked towards the car with the two teenagers. "Am I the only one here who isn't a tyke?"

Charybdis Lake

The figure allowed his head to rise to the surface of the water, his white pupils scanning the shoreline as he grew near, wading through the waters with his thin, foot long tail pushing the roaring tides away from his body. A new scent filled his nostrils, something that he had not taken in for a long time. It wasn't the scent of blood, nor was it the salty breeze-- well, it was those things too, but it was something much more distinct. It was something that made him drool much more than he had than when he saw the two males in the park: It was the scent of a woman.

He had to investigate and see the creature for himself, wanting to take note of the source of the wondrous scent. He swiftly sprung himself up to the top of the church where he had been once before, peering through the thick fog for the source, seeing a group of people gathered around a rusted vehicle and a normal car. His eyes searched for the maiden, finding the source of the scent that could possibly drive anyone with his keen sense of smell wild. Her appearance only made her look that much more appetizing, her brown hair, brown cowboy boots, and pink, frilly blouse, along with her small frame.

However, now was not the proper time to feed, for all of the people that he could tell were gathered around the cars. For now, he would be forced to resist temptation and rest at the bottom of the lake, despite the amazing smell of female musk and the beautiful appearance that now accompanied it.

Luke checked the map, noting a larger building that seemed to be near the back of the town, this building, it was noted, was near where the sacrifices were said to have taken place. 'Well, it's as good a place as any..' he thought to himself, before nodding to his sister. "We'll park here, and head for this building," he pointed to the map. "Well start filming there, talk about the town, then look around and see what we can dig up." He gave her an excited nod and hopped out of the car, grabbing from the trunk a bag containing one of the boom mics, the camcorder, and a spare battery. "Let's get the show on the road kid!"

Jessica leaned over to look at the map and get a better idea of where they were going. She was never very good with maps, though, so she was left guessing what that big building was exactly. A church? A mall? ...Just someone's house, even?

Not that it mattered. As she watched her brother gather equipment from the trunk, she couldn't focus on things like where exactly they were going or what was waiting for them. She was too distracted by the excitement she felt running through her. Leaping up in a sudden burst of joy, she exclaimed, "This is going to be awesome!"

"Let's get the show on the road kid!"

"Right away!" Jessica playfully saluted her brother and started to run in the direction she was pretty sure the map had directed them, but an older man's voice made her stop. She turned around and warily stared at him as he asked if they were making a movie- of course we are- and if they knew anything about this place- of course we don't. He was a tall dirty blond, and although he didn't seem too menacing, Jessica chose to stay in the small distance and let her brother answer him. She was never very good with strangers, after all, and this man was significantly older than her. She played with the hem of her skirt idly to keep herself occupied in the meantime, but she found her worries slowly creeping back onto her mind. Hopefully this man would keep it short so she wouldn't have to worry about the possibility of something lurking or someone creepy or...
