The Broken Branch​

You are ANBU, the elite. Hand-picked by the Hokage themselves to serve Konoha, ANBU are assigned only the most dangerous and difficult missions. Everything about them is shrouded in secrecy, including their faces and names. Your past is a secret, your future a mystery. There is only the now, the mission, and what you must sacrifice to ensure it's success. Every ANBU, without question, is prepared to give an eye, an arm, or even their life to ensure the completion of their mission.

While individually you may be strong, your true power comes from those around you. ANBU depend upon one another, trusting their squad with their very lives. Without the shinobi to your left and right, you are nothing.

Among this secretive organisation, it comes as no surprise that there are some missions so vital that not even the other ANBU know of their existance. The most dangerous, most suicidal, and most important of missions, those utmost to the survival and protection of Konoha itself. Throughout the ranks, there are whispers of a squad, though nobody knows for sure if they exist or not. A squad to which these suicidal missions are assigned. To the uninformed masses, it is known as the Leaf's Shadow Squad.

To you, it is known as 'The Broken Branch Unit'.



Foreword

This RP is set during the three-year timeskip in the series, and will follow a unit of shinobi, the tititular unit, of whch your character is a part.

First and foremost, the cardinal rule of this RP. There will be no omgwtfimmafiringmyrasengan ultimate moves. There is not a tailed beast sealed inside your character. You cannot transform into some crazy grey-skinned pwnmaster with your overpowered cursed seal. You do not have sharingan. You do not have kekkai genkai or any form of bloodlime limit.

You are an ANBU, and a mere soldier, not a hero. You will be assigned missions to complete as a group, and must work as a group to do so.

In regards to the moves/jutsu you are permitted to use, I trust anyone who joins this to use their own discretion in creating jutsu. Your character may have two elemental affinities, one primary and one secondary, and most of your jutsu should revolve around your own creative use of this affinity.

Each character will have a role in the team, and depending on the amout of people who express interest in joining, I'd prefer to have only one-two people in each role. Roles include, but are not limited to, support roles, such as medical ninja, or ranged fighters, offencive roles, such as power-type ninja more suited to close-combat, or intel roles, revolving around stealth and recon/information gathering. Feel free to carve out your own niche within the team.

Overall, this RP focusses more on the basic componants of shinobi disciplines rather then the overpopulated ranks of hahayouactivatedmytrapcardkekkaigenkai ninja in the series. I'd prefer more of an emphesis on tactical combat rather then just 'It was just a kage bunshin, let's keep fighting!' as in the series. You'll be using your kunai and shuriken a lot more then your bloodline limits this time around.

That is all. Yes, that's right, no personality, or history, because I think these should be developed as you write and not summed up in a few brief passages. I can already hear the purists getting their torches and pitchforks ready to come burn me for being a witch. I guess I'm pretty screwed, seeing as I can't float for shit. I'm a terrible swimmer.

I'm also not asking you to disclose your Jutsu, because I don't want you to limit yourself to what you think of now, but instead be able to 'invent' or alter jutsu on the spot to react to circumstances. However, you should at least look up a basic list of jutsu within your elemental affinities in addition to devising your own.

Codename: Hunter

Appearance: Abnormally normal looking, to the extent that he almost fades away from your memory the moment he turns away. A high forehead overlooking short eyebrows and a slightly dipping nose, Hunter's only memorable trait is his expression - an almost perpetual look of being lost. He has straight, but slightly messy black hair that slides to the left. His eyes are a lost hazel-brown, and his mouth is small, covering his mouse-like teeth.
Hunter isn't tall, but has long limbs and fingers. His weight is ambiguous, as is his muscle tone. Hunter walks with a slight slouch, and grows a few inches when he stands up straight.
Carries two small bells with him, tied at opposite ends of his waist. Strangely enough, they never make a noise.

Primary Element: Earth
Secondary Element: Wind

Role and Combat Style: Disablement and detector. Hunter specializes in tracking down enemies, especially against stealth ops and genjutsu users, as he is very sensitive to chakra. Apart from that, he also has skills in disrupting chakra and in sealing jutsu's.

Advantages and Proficiencies: Ninjutsu and Genjutsu
An anti-chakra and anti-stealth specialist. Hunter's detection skills are invaluable in tracking or assassination missions, as well as being a near-infallible guard dog against ambushes. Battle-wise, he is more support orientated, using seals, purges, and the occasional genjutsu to disrupt enemy coordination and techniques and keep his team on its feet.
Weaknesses: Taijutsu
Few offensive techniques - but if played correctly, Hunter won't need to attack. Weak when detected or alone, and very vulnerable if caught in close range against taijutsu.

Codename: Nee-san ( Big Sister)

Appearance: Nee-san (the girl on the left with black hair) She wears a cat mask.

Primary Element: Earth
Secondary Element: none

Role and Combat Style: Interrogator and Strategist. She has skills in kenjutsu and taijutsu.

Advantages and Proficincies: She is an excellent strategist, being able to think of a plan at any moment in or out of battle. Able to revise a plan incase condentions change. This also helps because she in knowledgable in jutsu from other countries, being able to remember how to counter some techniques or know their weakness or what to watchout for. She is also the teams interrogator. Using powerful jutsu she can invade the minds of multiple enemies at once to search for information needed.

Weaknesses: Strength and Stamina. She is small and not that strong but she can hold her own in a battle; also with the precise usage of her chakra for interragation or ninjutsu she tires out easily therefore she has to be smart about what to do.

Appearance: His hair is a dark brown pretty messy,and his mask is a hawk with the hidden leaf crest engraved in it. his outfit is a basic black t-shirt with a Chunin vest over it. He also wears black jeans. and black ninja sandals. But underneath the mask is a soft face with green eyes and slightly pale peach skin.
Primary Element: Wind
Secondary Element: Fire

Role and Combat Style: He's the smart one... giving higher judgement and quick thinking to the team. His combat style is mainly defensive to protect the other comrades. He also knows an effective way to finish a mission with utmost results. but he also keeps the team on it's toes and is lightning fast.

Advantages and Proficincies: His ability to innovate with all kinds of jutsu knows no bounds.he can even combine elemental jutsu into the most effective combinations, He's developed Jutsu that can sheild himself and others with fire. his equivalent to Neji's palm rotation.
Weaknesses: His only weakness is that he bottles his emotions... if someone was to use his emotions against him, he'll be rendered useless and vunerable.

Appearance: GI I hope this is ok

Primary Element: Water
Secondary Element: Lightning

Role and Combat Style: Stealth and Close Combat. GI specializes in speed, stamina and silence, forcing his stealth attacks to be close to unnoticeable to ninja who aren't extremely proficient at detecting him.

Advantages and Proficincies: Taijutsu

GI is a taijustu artists which fits his Stealth and close combat style to perfection. His speed and stamina are great assets to both of these styles. He also tries his hand at some ninjutsu attacks which are usually lightning quick to match his pace.

Weaknesses: Genjutsu
Due to his fast pace, GI often finds himself caught in Genjutsus since they are harder to avoid then ninjutsus. GI also has the tendency to play with his opponent during close combat battles which usually forces him to take more damage then he should of intentionally.

 

[Eva]

Codename: Hotaru

Appearance: The best word to describe her is 'cute'; having quite a slender body, her curves are often hidden by her ANBU outfit. Her skin seems to be quite pale, though her cheeks are usually rosy. One look at her face wouldn't tell you she was a shinobi--her big, almond shaped, heterochromatic eyes are blue (right) and green (left) with long curved eyelashes. She has a small nose placed in the middle of her face, her pink lips forming a small mouth above a pointed chin, completing her heart shaped face. Her hair is a shimmering blonde, reaching up to her waist and ending in curls, her bangs often swept over her right eye.
The mask she wears resembles a bird, with various flower petal markings.

Primary Element: Water
Secondary Element: Wind

Role and Combat Style: Medic Nin/Stealth -- More on the defensive side, Hotaru is well known for two things; her stealth, and her medical jutsu. Her attacks are swift and silent enough to kill one in three men without the other two noticing, and she excels at moving without so much as leaving the very idea that she was once there. Her healing abilities have no boundaries, and combined with her natural over abundance of chakra as well as having extremly precise control make her the medical ninja to want on your team. To add the cherry on top, her healing takes little time compared to other medical ninja.
She loves attacking with medical senbon rather than the 'clunky kunai' (her words), believing the job is easier. Her accuracy is near perfect, something that helps her senbon attacks. Hotaru is not one to be the damsel in distress; she is fairly evasive when it comes to enemy attacks, her speed helping her land quick blows and recovering as fast as possible.

Advantages and Proficincies: Hotaru's medical skills are unmatched; she is also obidient, wishing for little conflict between teammates and wanting to carry out missions without flaw.
Weaknesses: As well and good as her attacks are, one-on-one battles are not her forte. While she is able to take out an enemy by a distance, confrontations never go too well for her. Sure, she can handle herself against the average shinobi, but if a powerhouse or even another ANBU attacked, she could be in big trouble. And unlike other medical nin, she does not use brutal strength in battle, despite the many advantages it could have.

Well, by the looks of it, this is gonna draw a fair few people. I'm going to give it a couple days to allow people time to join, and to allow myself time to think about how I can shuffle stuff around to make things more suited for a larger group and play around with ideas, but expect it to start within one - one and a half weeks.

Codename: Kouen Buki (Flame Weapon)


Appearance: Her eyes are grey specked with small flecks of red, with near no life to them are only complimented by her over white skin lightly blushed with a shade of light pink. A light rounded face, with full cheeks and underneath her horrid eyes are dark grey circles from severe lack of sleep or perhaps a hangover. With a thin although muscular neck, underneath her uniform is a very toned body that has endured many years of intense training. Her hands are tattooed dramatically with small roses that at the tip of her wrists are connected by the words “Aspire.” This reflection of personality is covered by thick gloves that have steel tips at the end like the other ANBU. Like the other ANBU soldiers she has a katana on her back. Her hair is a dark shade of maroon with black tips; this is usually pulled back in a high pony tail. Upon her back although instead of a standard Katana a staff is present.

Primary Element: Fire.
Secondary Element: Lightning

Role and Combat Style: Explosive and weapons expert. Her quick style of attack and concealment is what she is known for. Escape and retreat is her specialty when it comes to assisting in the original plan.

Advantages and Proficiencies: Her knowledge in weapons is extended through years of study able to counter most forms of physical weapons and use their weaknesses as her strengths; she is adept in disarming bombs. As well as vast knowledge Intonjutsu (escaping and concealment) allows her to be well adjusted and can give her opinion in the original strategy and planning beforehand.

Weaknesses: Temper, when she becomes angry she does not use her abilities at their fullest capacity. Also she battles better when it comes to weapons there for hand to hand combat although fairly good, she is far from as capable as she is with a staff of katana.
