Chapter 36: Memories of the Reunited
Sora ran across the beach the water washing towards him as he happily twirled around before slipping and falling face first into the sand. Kairi and Riku followed close behind running after their overly enthusiastic friend. Slowly Sora sat up staring into darkness.
“What huh who turned out the lights,” Sora asked confused.
Kairi and Riku burst out laughing as Sora reach up and grabbed the large starfish that had attached itself to Sora’s face. Sora pulled the starfish off as the suction cups on the bottom of it slowly detached from Sora’s face. Sora looked up at his friends as he smiled in his goofy manner. The waves slowly washed up the beach as the three sat at the water’s edge, watching it rush up and barely manage to touch the tips of their shoes.
“It’s good to be finally back isn’t it,” Kairi said.
“Yeah it is. But still I didn’t expect to come back to all this homework. I only missed a bit,” Sora said complaining.
“Well that’s what you get. I already finished mine,” Kairi replied.
“What? Oh man, hey Riku did you finish yours yet,” Sora asked.
“Of course, it wasn’t that hard. Or has your brain fried since we returned,” Riku asked as both he and Kairi laughed at Sora.
“Ha ha very funny,” Sora said pouting for a second before turning and staring at the setting sun. “But you guys seriously do you think we’ll ever have any more adventures like that one?”
“Maybe, you never know. But I doubt we’ll be hearing from the Exiled Order again. Remember what Xishn said Sora,” Riku asked.
Sora looked up at the sky as the memory played back in his head. It’d been a week since the group had all been together after all. Slowly Xishn created a portal as he snapped his fingers and the group all said their goodbyes.
“Let’s get going then shall we,” Xishn said as the king, Goofy and Donald turned and walked into the portal.
“Oh by the way, you most likely won’t ever hear from us again. So don’t worry about any other unannounced entrances. Though it is just most likely I don’t know what the Exiled Order has in stored for you. I’m just position number 21 after all,” Xishn explained.
“Thanks for letting us know,” Sora said smiling.
“No problem. Oh and Roxas, I’m not sure if you can hear me now. But if you can, we won’t be seeing each other again so, it was good to know you. Farewell,” Xishn said as he walked away into the portal.
Silence filled the air as the portal closed behind leaving the three islanders to their home once again. A cold wind seemed to blow through the air as the silent words echoed.
“Farewell Xishn,” a voice said as an image of Roxas appeared over Sora and then slowly vanished.
Sora stared forward at the water the memory ending.
“Yeah I remember that. But he did say most likely so who knows,” Sora said.
“I just hope you guys let me join in the fun next time,” Kairi added pouting a bit.
“Yeah of course Kairi,” Sora said smiling.
“If that sort of thing ever happens again,” Riku added as he stared off at the setting sun that lay across the splashing waves.
“Anyways we’re back home right? Let’s just be happy now,” Sora said as he stood up.
“Yeah you’re right Sora,” Kairi said smiling.
“We’ll always be together as friends no matter what,” Riku added.
“Yeah, race you to the boats,” Sora said as he turned towards the small dock with their boats attached it.
“You’re on,” Riku said smiling.
“Not if I beat you both,” Kairi said as she took off running.
“Hey that’s cheating Kairi,” Sora said as he took off after her and the three laughed playfully enjoying their return home.
Quickly the three raced down the beach towards their boats under the setting sun where everything had begun on that dark and stormy night that seemed so very long ago.
“So this is where you were,” a voice said as a portal opened up further down the beach and a man in a black cloak appeared.
Slowly the man removed his hood revealing himself to be Zixan of the Exiled Order.
“What were you doing,” Zixan asked the man in the sky-blue cloak that stood in front of him.
“Just listening to them,” the man in a sky-blue cloak said his hood up.
“So what you told him. Was that truth,” Zixan asked.
“…I’m not sure yet,” the man in a sky-blue cloak replied.
“I see, well it’s none of my business what you think in that area, Salix,” Zixan said.
“By the way what did happen when you approached the area in which I fought Sora,” Salix asked as he removed his hood slowly as a breeze blew his long black hair off to the side.
Zixan sighed as he placed his head in his left hand before looking back up at Salix and shaking his head obviously not wanting to recall the memories of what had happened.
“…Well fine if you really want to know,” Zixan said as he began to replay his memory of what had happened back in Salix’s stronghold.
“I said no,” a voice shouted. “There’s no way in hell I’d carry you even an inch.”
“Aw come on don’t be such a jerk about it. I mean moving through the Corridors of Darkness is impossible here if you’re not one of Salix’s allies. And now my feet hurt,” the second voice said complaining as a group of 5 Exiled Order members appeared.
The two who had been talking were Xatsuin and Zaverxi. The remaining three of the group were Rextanse, Zixan and DrBanxon.
“And again I’ll say no. Now get the hell away from me,” Zaverxi said becoming irritated.
“Man what a party pooper. And I’m so tired,” Xatsuin said complaining.
Suddenly DrBanxon popped up in front of Xatsuin surprising him a bit though it should have been expected considering it was DrBanxon after all.
“I’ll carry you,” DrBanxon said the same crazy yet creepy look on his face that he always wore.
Suddenly DrBanxon skidded across the floor in front of the group a punch wound to the face from Xatsuin.
“I’m definitely not that tired,” Xatsuin replied knowing he certainly didn’t want to be carried by the weirdest person he had ever even heard of in his life.
“Now are you sure you won’t carry me,” Xatsuin asked.
“God I’m going to kill you,” Zaverxi muttered under his breath.
“If you idiots don’t shut up we’ll never make it without being discovered by Salix,” Rextanse said extremely irritated as he slammed his right fist into the wall taking his anger out on it rather than the others.
Suddenly the wall began to collapse as it shattered and fell everywhere making a loud echo throughout the whole stronghold. Rextanse gripped his fist tighter as his right eye began to twitch he was so irritated.
“Um just to let you know that probably let him know we were here,” Xatsuin said pointing out the obvious.
“Yes I think I figured that out,” Rextanse said barely holding back his anger as he walked forward catching up with Zixan who had walked away from the group. “How do you put up with them?”
“Just keep telling yourself it’s almost over. It works most of the time,” Zixan replied.
“…I just don’t understand why we got stuck with the short end of the stick,” Rextanse said.
“You chose to come here remember. I’m the only one with the short end of the stick,” Zixan replied.
“I suppose but still to have to listen to those two idiots, excuse me three idiots gets irritating after a while,” Rextanse said.
“Whatever just keep heading forward,” Zixan replied.
“That’s it, you’re so ****ing dead,” Zaverxi shouted angrily as his clawed gauntlets appeared over his hands and charged forward at Xatsuin.
“What all I asked is if you would play rock paper scissors with me,” Xatsuin replied.
“Those idiots are gonna let Salix know our location,” Rextanse said.
“As if he doesn’t know,” Zixan added.
Zaverxi threw his right arm with the clawed gauntlet forward at Xatsuin connecting with chest. Tiny fragments of something hard flew everywhere shattering as they hit the floor revealing it to be Xatsuin’s gem coating that had covered the area in which Zaverxi’s clawed gauntlet had impacted.
“Jesus you could have killed me,” Xatsuin shouted.
“That was the whole point,” Zaverxi replied angrily as his left hand shot forward with the cawed gauntlet.
Quickly Xatsuin jumped backwards as he summoned his sword and shield to each of his hands and his gems disappeared from his chest. The two instantly flew forward at each other with weapons in hand. Suddenly both of them tripped as two chains appeared one attached to Xatsuin’s right foot and one attached to Zaverxi’s right foot. The two instantly fell and collided into each other as their weapons vanished. The chains then vanished as the two got to their feet. Xatsuin held his head from the pain as Zaverxi angrily ignored his pain and looked around for whoever had just done that to him.
“Who the hell just did that? Come out here you bastard,” Zaverxi shouted angrily.
“That’s enough you two. You’ve made such a racket ever since you arrived,” a voice said.
A black portal opened in front of the group as a man in a sky-blue cloak appeared. Slowly the man removed his hood revealing himself to be Lonex the left side of his face covered by the mask he always wore to hide what lay behind it.
“So you’re the bastard who did that. I’m gonna kill you,” Zaverxi shouted as he rushed forward.
As Zaverxi started to run forward a blade suddenly shot up in front of his face as Rextanse appeared next to him stopping him from attacking Lonex.
“So you’ve arrived again. Why is this,” Rextanse asked.
“I don’t hold grudges. Die or live it doesn’t much matter to me. Anyways you should follow me Xishn will be returning soon,” Lonex said as he turned back towards the portal he had come through.
“Why is Salix letting us enter now? Did he lose,” Zixan asked.
“…The battle never ended. He intends to keep it that way,” Lonex replied.
“What the hell do you mean by that,” Zaverxi asked.
“It’s simple he means that Salix never intended to kill Sora or his friends. In fact this whole thing was more of a test than anything. He held back and so did Xishn when fighting Sora. That explains both why the castle is still in tact and why Sora isn’t dead,” Rextanse explained as he lowered his sword making it vanish once again.
“Yes, but we didn’t go through this without our fair share of casualties. We lost the six that Salix created,” Lonex said.
“Six of what,” Xatsuin asked.
“…All will be explained when Salix intends to let you know,” Lonex said.
“By the way Lonex, where is Salix right now,” Zixan asked.
“…He’s resting, if you come with me I’ll take you to the meeting chamber,” Lonex replied.
“So we talk to him on his schedule,” Zaverxi asked becoming a bit pissed.
“This is his stronghold not yours or mine. So you and I and anyone else must oblige by what he says and the rules he makes,” Lonex explained.
“I’ll oblige by kicking his ass,” Zaverxi replied an enraged look in his eyes.
Suddenly Lonex vanished as he appeared in front of Zaverxi and shot his right hand out grasping Zaverxi by the throat tightly. Zaverxi glared angrily at Lonex. Lonex didn’t budge as he squeezed harder tightening his grip slowly.
“Do not disrespect Salix, understand,” Lonex said as something in him suddenly snapped. “…Or perhaps I won’t give you the chance to.”
A crazed look came over Lonex’s face as he grasped tighter as if trying to break Zaverxi’s neck. Rextanse suddenly recognized what was going on as he and Zixan rushed forward but stopped as they noticed Lonex slowly releasing his grip on Zaverxi’s neck.
“If I have to, I will kill you. Don’t mess things up,” a voice whispered in Lonex’s ear coming from Xishn who had just arrived.
Xishn’s eyes appeared very abnormally serious compared to how they normally looked as he gripped Lonex’s shoulder tightly for a while until the man had completely released Zaverxi who fell to the ground. Xishn then released his grip on Lonex’s shoulder as he patted him on that same shoulder.
“Good job, see it’s easy enough if you try,” Xishn said smiling as he turned down to Zaverxi. “Sorry about that it’s just you see Lonex is a bit of an odd case.”
“So what are you doing here Xishn,” Rextanse asked.
“Well I had intended to meet you in the meeting chamber but I sensed something going on here and I decided to take a look into it,” Xishn explained.
“I see, well then shouldn’t we get going,” Zixan suggested.
“Yeah let’s get going,” DrBanxon said as he popped up grabbing both Zaverxi and Xatsuin by the neck of their cloaks and charging into the portal.
“…He does realize that there’s a wall 10 feet from the edge of the portal right,” Xishn asked.
“Apparently not,” Rextanse said.
“…That idiot,” Zixan thought to himself as he shook his head and sighed.
Zixan sighed again as the memory ended and he stared forward in the direction Salix was facing.
“After that our number 8 position ran forward into the wall face first and from there well I’m sure you know what happened,” Zixan explained.
“I see that’s a bit more then I wanted to know, but ok. So Lonex lost control again, this is becoming irritating. I’m sure that’s why they threw him out of the Organization,” Salix said. “But he has his uses. So it doesn’t much matter.”
“About that, have you figured out why he’s gotten that way,” Zixan asked.
“…Yes, apparently a while ago a rather peaceful world was destroyed by the Heartless, he lived on that world. His sudden outbursts of mentally unstable moments come from as I have deduced the fact that he witnessed the people of his world destroyed without a thing he could do about it. It doesn’t surprise me that he was damaged so severely. What does surprise me is that he wasn’t damaged even more then he is now,” Salix explained.
“So that’s why he reacted that way. You’re capable of handling him I assume,” Zixan asked.
“Yes he’s nothing too unstoppable,” Salix answered. “By the way, do the Exiled Order higher ups still think I’m not without trust?”
“No they have their trust in you. Just be aware if you make a move that is suspicious to them, they will send Rextanse back,” Zixan explained.
“I understand. And what is your take on this,” Salix asked.
“…No living being is without its traitorous characteristics. Neither you nor I are exceptions to that. That is all I think,” Zixan answered choosing his words carefully. “By the way how did you manage to survive after Sora attacked you?”
“…I was never fighting Sora full force. After all I never wanted to kill him. However I was severely wounded in that fight. More so then I had predicted. I managed to after bringing him back to the stronghold and resting up a bit to gather up enough strength to open a corridor of darkness to my secondary healing chamber. If not for Lonex helping me into one of the healing pods I might have been in some serious trouble,” Salix explained. “My wounds healed quickly and although they weren’t fully healed when I met with you they were healed enough for me to move around though fighting was out of the question.”
“I see so you held back against him. It’s not too surprising, but for him to have wounded you so seriously...,” Zixan said his words trailing off as he fell into deep thought for a second before snapping himself out of it. “In any case I have other business to attend to now. If you’ll excuse me.”
Zixan bowed respectfully as a portal appeared around him and he vanished into it leaving to go back to the Exiled Order main base. Slowly the portal disappeared as soon as Zixan had entered it leaving Salix alone as he gazed out at the near entirely set sun. Suddenly several images entered Salix’s mind of a child with dirty blonde hair and ocean blue eyes appeared. Slowly the boy’s image went from child like to a young man in his teens and finally to a man of 25 years of age. The man smiled in Salix’s mind as his dirty blonde hair was blown around a bit by the wind and his ocean blue eyes reflected everything they saw like a crystal ball would have. Salix cracked a slight smile as a portal opened up a few feet behind him and he shut his eyelids over his blind eyes.
“…Does this place remind you of home too,” Salix said thinking of the man he had seen in his mind.
Slowly Salix turned as he entered the portal behind him leaving the Destiny Islands and all its inhabitants for his stronghold. The sun slowly set as the stars began to appear glowing brightly in the night sky as the moon began shimmering near it in the pitch black sky over Sora’s home, the Destiny Islands.
