Ch 8
Kam and Mar
"Hai?" Ren asked into her black phone, zooming her way back to Jette, into Shyla.
"Ren, its Reno."
"Oy, Reno! Nanika atta?" Ren smiled, keeping one hand on the steering handle.
"Ah, not much, but Laz called."
"Oh, what did he want?" She asked.
"Something about Cloud-"
"Oh, hai! I need to talk to you guys about that. Can I...?"
"Headquarters are open anytime, my friend," Reno replied nonchalantly. Ren smiled.
"Thanks Reno. Tell Rude I'll be there in a bit," Ren said.
"Will do. Dewa mata." Reno replied.
"Dewa mata!" Ren retaliated, shutting her phone. She sped faster as she entered Shyla.
----
"I'm looking for Reno," Ren prompted the woman at the front desk, "Or Rude. Either one's good."
The woman, around her forties with purple rimmed glasses and green eyes, looked up at her expectantly. Ren looked at her with greater authority.
"Hm, do you have an appointment?" She asked lazily, crossing her arms. Ren rolled her eyes.
"Lady, they know I'm here, so just-"
"Hey Ren! My man!" Ren turned, her face pale, to see Reno laughing. Ren sighed in relief, thinking it was Laz.
"Hi," She said, shooting a dark look at the lady behind the counter. She blushed deep scarlet and turned back to her work.
"Follow me, amiga, the others have gathered," Reno overdid. Ren laughed as he put his arm out, taking it.
"By others, it's just Rude, huh?" She asked jokingly. Reno grinned.
"Actually, no, we have two newbies," He said, opening the door for Ren.
The door led to a bland meeting room, three members sitting in black business chairs. One was Rude, his sunglasses on, as usual. The other was a female with tan blonde hair, pulled back into a ponytail, bangs almost covering her eyes. She wore the neat uniform Rude and Reno usually wear. The other was a man, a teenager at most, with unruly black hair and bright green eyes. He wore his uniform like Reno, almost like a Reno look-alike.
"Ren, this is Kam," Reno gestured to the blonde, and she nodded, "And Mar." The guy with unruly black hair waved. Rude stood.
"Reno said you've got something about Cloud...?" Rude asked, crossing his arms. Ren nodded.
"Cloud has agreed to assist the Jette army," Ren replied formally. Reno laughed.
"Oh, that's great!" He said half sarcastically. Ren looked over at him.
"What else did he say?" Rude asked. Ren sighed.
"I didn't get to ask anything else....sorry." Ren smiled sheepishly. Kam looked away.
"I can go by tomorrow after...." She stopped and looked over at Kam and Mar, then to Reno and Rude.
"Um....after....I get out of....work," Ren chose her words carefully, eyeing Kam and Mar. Mar stared at her intently, trying to figure her out. Ren could see Kam trying not to look.
Ren looked at Reno then, and he nodded.
"Well, I have to get to....work," Ren said slowly, winking. Reno and Rude nodded, and Kam and Mar ignored. Ren walked out of the room, and took out her cell phone.
-----
"Hai?" A drowsy voice asked.
"Laz? It's Ren," Ren quickly replied, lowering her voice. The streets of Shyla were black and eerie, ominous creatures and dark figures roaming the alleys. Ren stradled her motorcycle, starting the engine.
"Ren? Where are you?! Your supposed to be on duty!" Laz half shouted. He sounded like if he had been asleep.
"Ugh, I'm sorry, I was busy with Cloud-"
"Cloud? What did he say?" Laz interrupted. Ren started slowly through the streets, weaving through the diminishing crowds as the night reached upon them.
"Why don't I just tell you at base?" Ren asked exsaperatingly. Laz sighed.
"Fine." Laz grumbled. Ren grinned.
"I'll try not to be late...." Ren sing songed, almost losing her low voice. Laz laughed.
"Yeah, I'd like to see that happen," Laz replied, scoffing. Ren smiled wider.
"I'll be there in a few, iya?" Ren prompted.
"Iya," Laz answered, sighing again.
"Ittekimasu," Ren said.
"Un, Ittekimasu," Laz hung up. Ren sighed and closed her phone. She made her way out of Shyla, pulling over to the side of the forest. She hopped off, grabbing her metal glove.
"Alright, let's do this fast," Ren sighed, flipping a metal latch open. Buttons flashed dimly, with a speaker for when phones weren't available. Ren pouted as she looked through the assortment.
"Ah, here you go." Ren pressed a blue button.
A blinding white light flashed, immersing Ren in it.
