It seems to me that the worlds in Kingdom Hearts are sadly underpopulated. For example, when Terra visits Olympus Coliseum and defeats Zack, you can hear people cheering. The stands are empty. Or when he escorts Cinderella to the ball and the only people there are the prince, the prince's steward, and Cinderella's mother and sisters. Would it really be too much work for SE to add in a few random people? I don't really know what my point is, just something i was thinking about.

I've been thinking the same thing, throughout the series.
I dunno, maybe it's too much for them to add, just a couple of people, that's just meaningless for the story?
But then again, they could've done what they did in Final Fantasy. Just add people, randomly. No purpose.
Maybe it's because they have to be Disney related in order for Square Enix to WANT to put them in. Who knows, really? xP

I feel ya. Radiant Garden in BBS had like what, 2 civvilians in it? For a whole town? That is friggin sad, at least in other games we had random NPCs and reasons why they weren't there.

I thought that too but maybe disney will not let them or (at least for BBS) there is not enough room.

Idk about the PSP excuse. Adding 1 or 2 NPC's to establish SOME type of realism in town makes the game feel more alive. Phantasy Star Portable seems to do a good job with the NPC's.

Besides, maybe if they used all of the space to their advantage by the FIRST release, they wouldn't have to make a final mix for every damn main game.

C'mon, SE! RG in BbS was called the City of Light! Why couldn't they populated it for at least a cut-scene?

yeah, traverse town had random NPC's. Not many, but enough. After kh1 all the magic sorta faded. For me anyway. I think even Deep Jungle had more life in it. Kh1 was just the best in the series so far, in terms of feel and memorability.

lol yeah totally at its limit which is why they are even adding more shit to the UMD for a final mix.

No one is bitching, good fans aren't afraid to point a game out on some of its flaws.

Didn't Twilight Town or KH2 in general have more NPC's than Traverse Town/KH1?

Yeah, I've noticed how underpopulated the worlds are. I don't think it would take all that much to put in a NPC here and there to make a bit more life like. Traverse Town had some life to it with the few stray people wandering around.

That always did weird me out, it was so weird. I mean the cheers could be from the gods but at the same time I mean, we got a full city of people. I mean at least in bbs, I was looking forward to going through a few places but eh maybe next game(excluding re:com, I mean im defininatly getting the game but i doubt theyll have more exploration at the coliseum.) Im actually surprised they didnt add sprites, i mean whats the point of even having people cheer ya know?

Because it's a PSP game and because they're too lazy to animate random civilians.

For a game that has been in development for five years, it makes me sad that they take longer than any other developer [especially from the west] to develop a game with less technical features. I mean, for five years of development on a HANDHELD PLATFORM, I bloody expected a lot of interesting technological achievements to make the game more advanced than it seems with civilians, some interesting shadow or lighting effects or some unique changes to the engine used to have more stuff appearing on screen such as random civilians.

Then again, Mario Galaxy lacked many civilians in a lot of their worlds, yet there was a lot going on, mostly with the environments. It would be great to see KH have more interactive environments which brings the levels to life.

My criticism of Birth by Sleep doesn't stop me from liking it. I'm just kinda miffed that with 5 years of development and a game [Crisis Core and Dissidia] using the same engine hasn't been tailored and edited for KH's world which could boast something more.

One more thing; The whole 'It's a PSP, there's a limit' also makes me sad. If we succumb to that argument, then developers wouldn't be motivated to develop techniques for it. If people say "We can't bring Anti-Alaising into PS3 titles because it does not work well, so we won't', then we wouldn't have MLAA. If we didn't have ID tech saying "Well, we can't make the graphics look good on console and PC using less resources, so we won't", then we not have Rage or Brink which uses the technique which boast great graphics with little resources.

The whole "We can't do much with PSP" is failing the test.

I think the main reason is that they would get in the way of the battles. Which is what Nomura considers the funnest parts of the worlds.

Honestly, I have an idea of that in which he could be missing out on. He could have the NPCs in danger when the heartless appears. Defeat the heartless and having few civilians losing their hearts to the heartless and we could have the NPCs THANKING them with gifts and maybe heart points to buy some extras or upgrade their abilities through some new upgrade system.

Would bring in more civilians and have a interesting mechanic to work with.

How bout having NCP's in places where there are save points and during cutscenes.
