Another My View--

Vanitas, to me, is the most peculiar character in Birth By Sleep. What I mean is, "Why has Nomura kept Vanitas's identity in the shadows?"

There is one simple answer for this.
His identity is important and/or dramatic.

Vanitas appears very strange. By his clothes, he looks like Riku Replica/ or Riku dark form.
Why is this?
I believe Vanitas is a replica of Ventus. They both have roughly the same hieght and body size but Vanitas's battle stance is more similar to Riku than Ventus. Also, their names are very, VERY similar.

Now, why did Ventus ask Aqua to "Erase Me"?
Well, i believe that the original and the replica have hearts that are "the same" and the only way to get rid of Vanitas is by getting rid of Ventus.
The only way we know for certain is by playing Birth By Sleep.

There are just too many twists that could come out of this whole thing involving Vanitas and any one of them would be simply amazing.

Vanitas and Ven have the same height, it seems, but Vanitas seems to be much more muscular.

It wouldn't surprise me much if Vanitas was a replica of Ven (because I agree that Ven and Van probably look the same). It makes more sense than Vanitas being an Unversed (why would Master Xehanort train an Unversed as an Apprentice?), at least.

If not a Replica, maybe familial ties will come into play in BbS, and Vanitas is Ven's twin, or (older?) brother.
If not, maybe a childhood friend who disappeared one day. Maybe, Ven shared a Paopu with Van as a child, which creates the link between the two.

We really cannot know, but I think it makes some sense for Vanitas to look like Ven.

I've heard a lot of stuff saying that Vanitas is Ven's dark filter, meaning, that whenever Ven does something evil or becomes more evil, Vanitas grows stronger, I personally like the idea.

I don't know what to think of Vanitas. More will be revealed of him the closer we get to the Japanese release date.

I doubt they would reuse Replicas in the story so soon. Besides, wasn't it Vexen who discovered the technology years after becoming a Nobody?

I more or less agree with Insider Job about his guesses. Mostly because of how Terra asked MX "what have you done to his heart?!?!" I think that it was in reference to Ven, though this won't be revealed until the game comes out.

Another guess of mine to go with this the most is how Ven asked Aqua to erase him. This could be because he found out some truth about himself, much like how Xion found out more about herself.

My last major guess is that Vanitas may have had some contact with Riku, which would explain the similar fighting stance. Overall, Vanitas could be anybody. Looking forward to who he/it really is.

It's not like they would reveal right away who was a replica. It is likely Vexen wasn't the first especially if MX ends up being connected with Castle Oblivion.

Your logic is correct but the anwser I don't agree with.

BBS was about Xehanorts memories. I personally think he is the Xehanort we know, only younger.
