As lame as it sounds, boxers are great. And if there's a joke behind it, even better.
Buy him a CD from one of his favourite bands, or even just iTunes gift card. Buy him the DVD of a movie he really likes.
Or shit, something as simple as t-shirt is always nice.

XBL varies, the best deal is a year for $55.

Halo would be cheap, Halo 2 a little more, but not much.

Halo 3 however would be anywhere between $60 and $120.

It all depends on the edition you get.

Normal is $60

Limited is $70

Over the Top is $120.

I'd say if you're going to get him one, get the Limited. It comes with a nice metal case and a bonus disk.

If you don't have the cash, then just buy him......a CD of his favorite band, or maybe one of those shirts with some kind of writing on them that you know he'd like.( I saw one with some random equation on it, and my friend busted out laughing. Apparently it was "funny" in math-speak. Something clever like that might be nice for your math savvy boyfriend.) And the boxers are a good idea too.

i like underwear.
i don't know if it's just me, but i'd love to get underwear for christmas.
all girls like jewelry.
if she's into manga or cosplaying, you could get her a manga or a cosplay outfit or accessory.
if it gets cold where you are at, maybe buy her a sweater or a scarf.
or even a gift card to her favorite store at the mall.
i think ipod socks are adorable, so if she has one of those, get a pack of socks for it.
