Because Pixar has a movie coming out in less than a week and they wanted to pay $250,000 to show a gaming relevant moment to people who play games. Yong Yea being there was just an easy segue into it, which happens a lot at promotional events.

It was just an assumption, but we know Nomura was getting the ball rolling on the story for KH4 after KH3, with Re Mind and MoM setting it up. MoM allowed the cutscene artists to work while they were working on pre-production, and Re Mind let the battle developers work as well until it was time to begin gameplay tests for KH4.
If the timeline was on track until the global pandemic impacted everyone and everything and still does then I imagine their plan was:
2019 - battle devs on Re Mind / cutscene artists on Re Mind / concept artists and meetings with Disney on KH4
2020 - battle devs on KH4 gameplay tests / cutscene artists on MoM / concept artists, writers and meetings with Disney on KH4
2021 - everyone shifted to KH4.

Literally no one can answer this question with certainty. Regardless, KH4 being absent from SGF (as we knew it would be) suggests absolutely nothing about the state KH4 is in. Nintendo sat SGF out. Does this mean Nintendo's next console isn't coming??

I mean, I don't think the KH4 silence is good news, I think that's a bit of a cope. Every day of this drought kills another podcaster, youtuber, discord channel, etc. Makes the group of people who care about the series smaller.
