When are we expecting news?

On the subject of aging and how its affected my view of KH, I think the number one thing is that I don't feel embarrassed about cartoon characters being lame. Donald and Goofy have the most emotionally resonant scenes in KH3, and I generally look forward to the silly stuff more than the more lore heavy stuff (which I enjoyed more as a kid and teenager).

That, and... running through an area and hearing the familiar sound of a bunch of heartless spawning in is like time travel for my brain. "oh damn I gotta kill these guys". I hear that shit and I'm a kid again. That and the familiar plonking sfx of the menus. I like being an adult (except for all the damn work I gotta do) but a skill you must learn as an adult is being able to access the childish part of your mind when engaging with things like Kingdom Hearts. If you're sitting there playing a Disney game and thinking "this series hasn't changed enough to reflect my grown up mind", you're the problem, not the game

Wanted to let everyone know the Future Games Summer Showcase today will apparently have an Unreal Engine 5 showreel. I don’t think this show will have anything from Square Enix (or anything super big at all,) but may watch it just to see how smaller developers are using UE5.

The biggest games in the FGS in the spring were Dragon’s Dogma 2 and Sand Land. So not expecting anything too major. But! If you’re wanting other shows besides those hosted by Geoff Keighley to get the bigger reveals in the future, it’s a good idea to support them. And this one is hosted by Britt Baron who voices Tifa in the Remake series! (And also Roger Clark, the voice of Arthur Morgan. A cowboy and a cowgirl lol.)

I'll laugh if KH4 has a sizzle reel appearance. It'd be like D23 that one time when KH appeared in their sizzle reel and I was like "but why????" when they didn't show anything.

I hope there's some good stuff in that showcase. Very low chance but it'd be nice to see what they've been cooking up for the next Tomb Raider. And I'd love more UE5 games overall. I had a look at a list on IGN, the only UE5 game I've played this gen is 20 minutes of Fortnite and the Matrix tech demo.

Kingdom Hearts 4 is going to be a big game in a new engine. Let's assume Nomura was fibbing about the game being revealed prematurely to avoid leaks - for some reason. The fact that the first trailer we got was in the previous engine instead of the successor engine they'll be utilizing for the game just shows and proves that it's still a bit far off. I personally wouldn't hold my breath for a 2025 release.

Somebody pick up that phone because I called it. 2026 earliest. Greatness takes time, y'all.

Yeah, the more I think about it, I think Spockanort was right in that the wait time for KH4 might be because of Covid. It should be noted that Yoshi P did day about a year ago that FFXVI's development was halted by six months due to the pandemic. Considering that FFXVI was clearly in development for much longer than KH4 was, if FFXVI was affected, then KH4's early development most definitely was. That is also to consider the fact that we don't know when KH4's development actually started either. Going off of Midori's leak, is 2026 is indeed the year they are aiming for, I admit that it's a little disappointing, but at least we know when to start expecting any kind of real news for it.

Now that is a bit crushing, but I'm sure it will be worth it by the end. I just hope they manage to activate the fandom when it's time and regain lapsed and new players alike.

Again it's not that I mind waiting in itself, but when Nomura made KH3 and it teased these crazy big ideas for the next thing .. i mean, will we even get to see what he had in mind when he came up with that stuff? seven years is a long, long time. you change as a person, in that time. nomura's 53 now so, what, at this rate there's only gonna be three more KH games after this one? idk. games industry makes me feel sick always
