Now we wait for the Nintendo Direct which should at least show DQHD-2D trilogy. But honestly, the way games are sort of piling up for overdue updates, I wouldn’t be mad if they decided to do their own thing. They could show:
Visions of Mana
DQ Erdrick Trilogy
DQXII
KH Missing Link
KH4
FFIX Remake
FF Tactics Remake
FFXVI PC port
Life is Strange 4
FFVII Rebirth port/possible Xbox ports
Triangle Strategy II
New game from Nier team
and possibly more
That would be a pretty solid line up I’d say for a 30 minute direct event.

I know you’re just repeating what Chaser said before, but this was mostly due to a lackluster line up and the majority of it focusing way too much time on Guardians of the Galaxy. I don’t think the majority of fans would be mad at a show that has KH4, DQXII, and FFIX Remake among everything else.

This confirms what the canon ending is, in case it wasn't clear already. But that Max after having to make that decision didn't learn anything...
With this trailer I get the feeling that it's a standalone story, using Max to attract those who played/watched the first one, and not a real sequel where Max is explored as a post-LiS character.
Many conferences are announced at short notice. What are the chances that SE will come back from the dead and announce that they are doing a conference again this month?

I’m not betting on it, but I do think it could be possible. They recently trademarked Inside Square Enix, which they could use for something like this. I believe the trademark description even said it would be used for delivering news on titles in development. They already used it once recently for a Rebirth video. I also think this would be good for their multi platform approach as they can update us on all of their titles regardless of what platform they are on. It would be a good move before their shareholder meeting next week too.
Regardless of whether they do one, my thought is SE wanted to see how all these other releases for late 2024/early 2025 shook out before setting a date for Visions of Mana and potentially other bigger games like FFIX. They’re in a tight spot and need to be strategic about their release timing to maximize their sales. So they’re putting off setting them as long as possible.

EDIT: Watching now and not really getting the feeling SE will show up at this since it seems to be mostly lower budget stuff.

Another possibility is just that SE is saving most of their announcements for the Switch successor and PS5 Pro to be revealed. But that is at least months away, so it doesn’t really explain Visions of Mana due out by September.
But they may just shadow drop a release date trailer for it in the next few weeks and then just have a launch trailer at one of the TGS season events.
