Where was Mickey?

Though it is not very important, after CoM when Mickey and Riku left Castle Oblivion and went on some sort of escapade for a while before going separate ways, and then afterwards Mickey crossed paths with Riku again when he thought Riku was Ansem SoD, and finally Mickey was seen at the beginning of Kingdom Hearts II, what was Mickey doing during the time he was not seen? I am also not entirely clear on how and why Riku went back to Ansem the Wise apart from the fact that he was told that catching Roxas would make Sora wake up.

There are a few easy assumptions to make here. He went looking for terra, ventus, and aqua. He wouldn't look for xehanort cuz of that brief moment of memory trouble with the name.

oh come on. im sure that before mickey left to go to the keyblade graveyard in the climax of bbs, yen sid told him that terra, aqua, and ven were fighting xehanort and vanitas.

That might've been the case. It's obvious he received some tidings but its never said to our face what the tidings were exactly. Yeah, yen Sid could've told him or Mickey could've been acting stupid or something.

Xehanort really isnt a common name. this is just one big plot hole

Neither is aqua, terra ventus, or Eraqus as far as we know. But the point is we don't know, because we've only seen one character for each name, as is the common in fiction.

Well, either the name Xehanort is very common, in which case Mickey just thought it was a coincidence. Or it is a unique name, but since Master Xehanort disappeared, there was no need to use the name, so it was forgotten. You may have to learn the capitals of all the states in the U.S. in 3rd grade, but that doesn't mean you'll remember them years later. Sometimes simple things are just forgotten. (*The example only applies to American students, sorry!)

-Between the time that Mickey meets Riku in the Twilight Town forest to the point Sora meets him KH2, I think it is implied that Mickey went to meet up with his old master, Yen Sid.
-For the time that Mickey & Riku departed from one another after CoM to the point they met up in the Twilight Town forest, I believe it is stated (by someone?) that Mickey had been gathering information on the Organization. How he was doing that exactly is anyone's guess though.

How do you know that? We're talking about the KH universe, not the real world. This does need to be explained, but it could be something as simple as Xehanort is a very common name in the KH universe.

I thought it was always just assumed the periods of Micky's absence have always be spent gathering information or obtaining something.

Micky also never actually saw a form of Xehanort until he went to visit Ansem after the barriers between the worlds shattered. I don't even think he realized who he was since he was just troubled by his appearance since he strikingly resembled Terra.

Even then it could just be assumed he's only heard of him by name by Yen Sid since there isn't dialog in any of the games as to when he was mentioned to Micky. I mean people get brain farts all the time.

Except Mickey never saw terra either, and given they're fighting for the same team. He'd remember that.
