i think vanitas could be someone we already know, but concealing themselves. this could be true since we don't know what happens to vanitas during those years after BBS. he could be the most important character for all we know.

the whole xion thing makes sense to the point that they both have black hair, however there eye lashes are diferent, from what we see the part in the hair is diferent, eye color is diferent, vanitas has a masculent voice, lack of breasts and finally has some sort of conection to riku (at least thats the biggest theory), admitadly when i saw the eye it made me think xion but at a closer look i say it's not
i don't understand how some of you can say xion can be vanitas if the replication project wasn't even thought of yet until after KH1. unless you are saying something that i misunderstood.

Actual appearence DOES matter and Terra's eyes are blue. And we've only seen his eyes turn gold once.
As I said, there is a line in BBS that gives you the biggest hints on who Xehanort is.
"There is no coincidence in fate."
Read that line carefully.
It's the biggest hint of the game. There is nothing that connects Vanitas to Xehanort while Terra and Master Xehanort do have connections with the current Xehanort and I refuse to believe that 2 people who look almost exactly like Xehanort would be neither of them.
We have seen nothing that can actually make your physical appearence grow to about a foot higher than you are. Riku is an exception because he had Xehanort's heart lingering inside him.
No, anything cannot happen in KH. There's a reason for that line,
"There is no coincidence in fate."
Might as well have Riku frolic through the flowers after getting rid of Xehanort because "it can happen".
Ven or a connection towards Ven.
All evidence applies to Vanitas having a connection with Ven. Nothing with Xehanort.

I don't agree with the Van=Xion theory, but I think they mean that it is a person who LOOKS like Xion, and since Xion is based on memories, the people who see her as Xion remember Van, Roxas through Ven, and I guess Axel through Lea? Maybe Lea met Van? I dunno.
The whole theory is hanging on that and the fact that HE has black hair. A pretty thin thread if you ask me.
Something tells me Vanitas is gonna turn out to look like a Black haired Ven.....

well his voice sounds like Riku's but that doesn't really reveal much since riku is still a young boy in BBS and isn't related with anyone.

Personally, I like the idea of him being a black-haired Ven. It's possible that he might have what Ven's 'losing' or maybe is a copy of him, his darkness, etc... They definitely look to be the same height.
But I doubt he'll look like Xion because Xion's...a girl. XD
EDIT: Also, in regards to Sora and Riku being too young... technically Roxas doesn't exist, and that doesn't stop Ven from looking/sounding like him. B) And Van's inflections don't exactly sound like Sora's, but it's definitely Miyu, IMO.
He seems to match Sora's voice.
Also, Vanitas seems to be attempting to stab Aqua in the heart. Maybe he's got heart unlocker abilities?

Have we seen Vanitas deal with any possesion problems at all whatsoever? Any internal conflict?
That's irrelevant towards the character. As I said before the most obvious answer can be right infront of you.
Terra + MX both have simiarites with Apprentice Xehanort while Vanitas has basically nothing other than the golden eyes and that is a bit iffy seeing how Terra and MX also have golden eyes.
Vanitas has a connection with Ven and Riku, not Xehanort.
Vanitas and Ven reenact a CGI scene with Riku and Sora in KH1.
Vanitas has the same battle stance as Riku. His legs are just a bit farther apart.

Vanitas' VA sounds like Sora's JPN VA and Nomura refuses to tell us who the VA is.
Ven and Vanitas seem to have the most interactions with each other.
The Soul Eater - applies to Riku..not Xehanort. Riku got that Soul Eater possibly because of the influence of Vanitas, or Maleficent' magic. Still a connection.
The Dark Suit - applies to Riku as well. Riku had this long before Xehanort ever possessed him.

see, i really dont think its xion, best guess seems to be the whole amnesia theory, only remembering "xehanort" but instead of terra, its vanitas who looses his memory

I have a feeling that Vantias will be a character that we don't even know, or a character that we haven't met yet within the KH timeline and will meet during KHBBS or in a future game.
Personally, I only think all the likenesses are being given to Riku and Vantias because they want to show the connection between Riku giving into Ansem SoD's darkness and Vantias being Master Xehanort's apprentice.

Tetsuya Nomura said in one of his interviews that Vanitas is related to or is a character that was shown in the first few games. At least, I believe he did.
aparently vanitas and sora have the same japanese voice actor, i think vanitas is the conection between ven and sora
