My heart says, that he really deserves to be playable in SSBU. He is iconic enough to be among the big-name-stars in gaming history such as Mario, Sonic, Link, Cloud, Ryu, Banjo-Kazooie, and Simon Belmont. But my gut tells me, that he sadly won't make it. Sora is in a weird licence position similar to Geno. It could be very hard for Sakurai to get the licence for him.

He will when Disney, Nintendo, and Nomura all come to an agreement probably.

But so far it seems that Nomura doesn't really care or has somehow managed to be oblivious to anything related to Sora in Smash and someone needs to actually ask him about it.

If he gets in or not however, people will get mad cuz "aNiMe swOrDfiGhTEr"

Keyblade May be referred to as a sword cause Key “Blade” However it’s also a wand to some extent and also let’s not forget keyblade transformations to shield and many other cool stuff.

I hope so, eventually. Sora’s one of my most wanted (right next to Crash Bandicoot), so I’m not giving up hope until he’s deconfirmed for sure.

Sadly i don't think so.
it will be too much work for them to make an agreement with square and disney just for one character.

Yeah, but it would be awesome! Although they also managed to make Banjo & Kazooie playable. Sora is possible, but out of all the licence characters he is definitely the hardest to get.

I'm not even sure it's a Square problem. It's Disney who owns him...and God I can't even imagine how much hell working with THEM would be compared to Square. All of three is an example of that. On the bright and musical side, KH might have a better advantage compared to Final Fantasy and Dragon Quest, because Shimomura composed/arranged almost all the songs in KH. And she worked on Smash music too. I feel KH has a bit more lineage on the Music side of things.

A few Disney reps have said they're quite receptive to Sora being in Smash, but ultimately for anything KH, they will defer to Nomura out of respect. If Disney says yes but Nomura says no, then Sora's not getting in.

Ah so it's a Nomura thing, after all. Then he's definitely not getting in. I feel like Square how a vendetta on Smash given how poorly treated their characters are......then again it IS Nomura's character that's already in Smash, so...who knows.

It would be so cool seen Sora in SSBU. I especially want to see his animated cinematic where he fights instead some of the Nintendo villains like Ganondorf and King K. Rool.

Why would he hate us?

People livestreaming a trailer at a closed event, people posting photos of him at closed events, people stealing copies of the games to leak and sell, people making their icons on forums the SE staff frequents KH tickle porn. I mean, there are reasons to hate us.

People often disrespect his privacy and intent. Sometimes it's understandable rage, sometimes it's cultural differences, sometimes he's a grumpy 50-year-old man.

I for one think that Nintendo could easily get Sora into Smash. Nintendo has tons of money, getting a license for Sora would be easy.
Not to mention Sakurai said that characters in the second season pass are all promotional characters, if Nintendo wants to get more sales with Kingdom Hearts Melody of memory, then putting Sora in Smash would be a must. As most of the Kingdom Hearts fans will probably get it on the PS4.
So their best chance of selling a lot of Kingdom Hearts on the switch, is to get Nintendo fans to like Sora. It also would sweeten the deal for square enix, making it cheaper for copyright.
Because that would make the majority of the sales on the switch, all newcomers to Kingdom Hearts.
This will also benefit Disney, but I don't know if Disney really cares, especially since Super Smash Bros ultimate is rated E10+.

This is going to shock you, but sometimes it's not about the money.
You have no idea how many third-party projects, many of which greenlit and in production, were halted because of Nomura's influence or call. Disney has an iron grip on their IP, but they respect Nomura's autonomy over the series.

So their best chance of selling a lot of Kingdom Hearts on the switch, is to get Nintendo fans to like Sora. It also would sweeten the deal for square enix, making it cheaper for copyright.
Nintendo fans already like Sora. The Kingdom Hearts games that have been on Nintendo have done quite well and are some of the most beloved by fans, particularly Days and Japan. In America, Nintendo fans are the ones who've bolstered that annoying Sora4smash campaign. I've been to more than one PR event for SE where they've had to say "please stop, we get it."

Nomura probably has a reason as for why it hasn't happened. Or someone does, who knows. Personally, I suspect that they're waiting for the Switch Pro to be announced so they can port the series over there and be done with it and tell Nintendo fans to calm down once and for all, but who knows.

This will also benefit Disney, but I don't know if Disney really cares, especially since Super Smash Bros ultimate is rated E10+.

Why would that matter. All Kingdom Hearts games have been E10+ since the rating was invented.

I think that's more of an issue with fire emblem characters than anything else. As foxychian stated, the keyblade isn't so much a sword as much as it is a wand, though I would make the argument that it is more used as a bludgeon most of the time as opposed to a sword. Perfect examples of this are when Sora swings in KH 1, it focuses more on the blunt tip of the kingdom key rather than squarely focus on the teeth. But the general consensus among gamers describe it the same way that the Evil queen in Snow White described Terras, as a "sword shaped like a key".

E ratings have always been important to Disney, especially since Kingdom Hearts is involved with their kid cartoons.
Quite frankly money says a lot when it comes down to it. Either way Nintendo is going to have to pay a price for the copyright, cuz whether or not Nomura likes it, Square Enix and Disney are going to ask for a high price.
Also Smash Bros is the number one tournament fighter, I think anyone including Nomura would want their character in Smash.
Oh yeah, I know there has been plenty of Kingdom Hearts games on Nintendo, in the past. But recently the Kingdom Hearts full collection has been re-released for Xbox and PlayStation, not Nintendo. There has been a lot of newcomers to Kingdom Hearts ever since Kingdom Hearts 3, also not released on switch. Quite frankly Melody of memory is going to run better and look better on a PS4 than the switch. Naturally most people are just going to buy the PS4 version, because they're the same price. So they're only going to get Kingdom Hearts fans that don't have a PS4 to buy it on the switch. Which is going to be a small percentage, because a good majority of the Kingdom Hearts fans have played Kingdom Hearts 3 on the PS4. Quite frankly Kingdom Hearts still makes the most of it's money in Japan, and most of them will have a PS4.
Sure maybe some of the guys on the Xbox don't have a PS4, but that's still not a very big percentage.
Not to mention Nintendo has the drift problem, with their controllers, and I can see that being a really big pain when playing a music rhythm game. Sure you can get that fixed for free now, but unless you have a spare set of controllers you're going to be controllerless until you get your joycon shipped back to you. Not to mention the Nintendo controllers are freakishly expensive still.
So yeah I don't think Melody have memory is going to sell as well on the switch. Which will really look bad for Nintendo, because what's the point in going through the work to make the game work on the switch when it doesn't sell well enough?
And yes they're going to compare it to the PS4, because at the end of the day these games are owned by big companies and big companies look at numbers.
Not to mention you'll have plenty of those guys who are radical PS4 fans that will make a big point of how much more Melody of memory sold on the PS4 versus the switch.
Also it would be a big opportunity miss if Nintendo doesn't get a deal to put Sora and Smash during the release of Melody of memory. Because if they're able to outsell or even match the PS4, then maybe they can get a port of the rest of the games on the switch.

I do respect that Nomura has the final say when it comes down to it. but I'm pretty sure the only things that probably are bothering him are which version of Sora does he put on Smash? If Sora gets in Smash and would it be a good idea to make the other skins other characters? Because Nomura always thinks of his fans and he wants to please them the best he can.
There is one other thing that could keep Nomura from putting Sora in Smash, but I would think this would be very greedy of him. It could be that he would like a deal where he could put Nintendo characters in his game, if his characters are in a Nintendo game. That could be what he actually wants, I mean think of how much more creative he could be with that kind of deal. But it's very unlikely to actually happen.
I only say this because Kingdom Hearts characters have not been in any other games, other than Sora being in the World of Final Fantasy as a summon, but that's an in-house game, so I don't feel like it really counts.
Although Nintendo has has more crossovers lately than they have in the past.
So they could be more open to that kind of deal. But I'd be very surprised if it actually happened.

Again when it comes down to it Nomura has the final say, but I don't see any reason why he wouldn't want to put Sora in Smash, cuz he likes to pleases his fans to the best of his ability and a lot of his fans want Sora in Smash, but the problem is which Sora? This is obviously a decision that Nomura would not want to rush, hence why sora4smash was just annoying. Nobody likes to be rushed.

I think that's more of an issue with fire emblem characters than anything else. As foxychian stated, the keyblade isn't so much a sword as much as it is a wand, though I would make the argument that it is more used as a bludgeon most of the time as opposed to a sword. Sakurai found a way to make Steve from Minecraft to work. I'm sure he could easily make Sora work. At least he doesn't have to reprogram every single stage.

Not to say that you are wrong, but you are wrong to a degree.

Sora and other KH characters have appeared in mobile game crossovers including Disney Emoji Blitz, LINE Disney Tsum Tsum, FF Brave Exvius, and FF Record Keeper. Also a million moons ago there was a Bravely Default: Praying Brage x KH X[chi] crossover event thing back when those PC Browser games were active.

WoFF IS different, but not because it was an in-house game, but because it was a Nomura-produced game. He was the creative producer for the game and Business Division 3 (when they were still split up that way) developed the game which is the same division that makes Kingdom Hearts, so of course he allowed to happen.

All of my examples above are definitely examples that count. Nomura is willing to play ball with other developers, but he prefers to do so when it is under his terms.

Nomura is also known to bend to Nintendo when they push enough. They pushed him for a game on the GBA using the "the children are crying for it" excuse and he made CoM as a response. Same with Days. Nintendo asked him and that was what he came up with.

Nomura is also known to be very restrictive and protective about KH and Disney allows that because they respect him and the series has flourished under his control for years. Sora didn't end up in Smash back during the 3DS/Wii U release because he said no and he offered up Cloud instead.

We all know Nintendo knows people want Sora. SE knows people want Sora. Nomura knows people want Sora. Now it's honestly a matter of waiting and seeing.

If it happens, it happens. If it doesn't, oh well.

Sakurai found a way to make Steve from Minecraft to work. I'm sure he could easily make Sora work. At least he doesn't have to reprogram every single stage.

Sakurai did it because Minecraft is one of the top selling franchises out there with a massive audience to tap into. KH is big in its own right, but it isn't as overwhelmingly successful as Minecraft.

I don't think they are speaking on the technical limitations of having Sora, but the general creative critiques that come with it since it is another "sword" type character, except Sora wields it to bludgeon his enemies not cut them...

Why am I discussing this...I don't even care about Smash like this.
