The time of Sora and his friends is long since past, a mere fragment of the past, a memory.
Now the keyblades are gone and with no weapon of such power to fight off the swarms of Heartless, many a world has fallen to them. The Heartless no longer obey the commands of any entity and are a renegade force, fighting and destroying all in their way. Stronger more powerful Heartless are also appearing due to the fear, anger and hate that is spreading through the Heartlesses campaign of rampant destruction.
To combat this dangerous threat an organization known as the Puppeteers as sprung into being. Using an unknown source of magic or technology this group forces the Nobodies into their control and uses them as minions against the ever increasing swarms of Heartless. Some members of this erstwhile group are Nobodies themselves (Nobodies can and do exist outside of this group), others are just normal people working together with the sole goal of eradication of the Heartless. Lead by Jana Temporus and working for themselves, they are each tied to a Nobody who acts as their personal guardian and higher members control a caste of Nobody.
However, such action is controversial and as with anything controversial, opposition as formed in the form of the Sorcerors Allegiance; an alliance of spell casters who see magic as the only effective way of dealing with the Heartless. The members of this powerful force fight solely with magic or sorcerous weapons and are under the control of Arthia Mendex, their goal is similiar but vaguely different to that of the Puppeteers, they seek to drive the Heartless away from the remaining worlds.
But yet another group as sprung into being; the Refugee's Sanctum, a group of refugee's from across the worlds who fight primarily for their own survival, formed from the combination of several global groups, each with their separate hierarchies, the Sanctum maintains a universal hierarchy however. With Gifford Nisco at it's head the Sanctum uses whatever they can to survive and possibly serve another goal, revenge for their lost worlds.
As the heartless plague spreads rumors spread just as quickly, some claim that the Heartless are in fact being controlled, that without a commander they wouldn't have the co ordiantion for such assaults. Others say figments of the past are returning, to aid or defeat the heartless. But now the battle is heating up as all the sides fight for whatever their reason.Additionally, rumors of a keyblade existing somewhere among the worlds have surfaced, rumors with substance, as a result all three groups now seek this weapon, each for their own means.
