Are you talking about in the Station of Serenity?

Because he wanted to know why he was the Nobody, not Sora

According to Xemnas, Sora's contact with Axel just moments
before triggered Roxas to more fully awaken in Sora. Sora
arriving to the familiar Memory Skyscraper probably was just
enough to give Roxas enough power to appear and finally
confront his 'other'.

Roxas has more influence the more contact Sora has with
things that are familiar to Roxas, like when Roxas made
Sora cry when Sora was saying goodbye to Roxas' friends
at Twilight Town.

Because that was an internal fight within Sora over who should be in control, basically.

Roxas wanted to know whether or not Sora was worthy of being the one in control. He didn't want his sacrifice to be worthless. So, he engaged him in a fight.

All within Sora's mind, of course.

I'm not saying I don't agree with you, I know that for a fact. I just never understood why Sora faded away during the battle.

It was kind of what Xemnas did in that fight
with Sora at the Memory Skyscraper illusion.

yea i don't understand how he disappeared either. Was it like a black hole/paradox thing since he was fighting in his own mind?

EDIT:

oh, ok. So all of the organization members have the power to create illusions to fight in?

Yes, but i couldn't think of the correct word to use in that sentence, so i just used the words that i thought would work best.

Back on topic:

I thought the fight scene was one of the better scenes in the whole game.
