Hey guys! Our countdown until the release of Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days is still going strong with our next Organization member being Marluxia, the Graceful Assassin.
What we know so far:
"Along the road ahead lies something you need. However, in order to claim it you must lose something that is dear to you." As said by Marluxia (the mysteriously cloaked figure) at the beginning of Kingdom Hearts: Chain of Memories to Sora, leading him to Castle Oblivion and beginning Sora's story.
Marluxia is number eleven in the Organization. He is the lord of Castle Oblivion and the head antagonist in Sora's story in Kingdom Hearts: Chain of Memories. Quite deceptive, Marluxia wields a massive scythe using his powers to perform many flower themed attacks. Marluxia was originally discovered by Xigbar and Xaldin and he becomes the mastermind in trying to take over the Organization.
Marluxia is assigned to Castle Oblivion at some point during Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days. There, working with Larxene and Axel, they concoct a plan to use a young girl named Naminé who has powers over memory, to deceive Sora and make him believe that she is the girl that he has sworn to protect. Marluxia and the others are using Sora to overthrow the senior Organization members.
Marluxia meets his demise at the hands of Sora. Marluxia orders Naminé to erase Sora's memories and she refuses, but he is thrown off track when Sora asks Naminé to erase his memories for her own safety. The Riku Replica and Sora both accept the false memories that were implanted by Naminé, and Sora defeats Marluxia, making him the fourth Organization member to die.
His Role in Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days:
So far from what we've gathered, Marluxia will be playable in multi-player mode. Also because of the timeline of the story, Kingdom Hearts: Chain of Memories begins a little while after Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days, as a result Marluxia will most likely make an early exit from Days. It is also confirmed that Marluxia helps Roxas on at least one mission in Twilight Town. Unfortunately, that is all that is known at this time.
"As lightless oblivion devours you--drown in the ever blooming darkness!"
What the fans think:
Well, the fans take on Marluxia is quite interesting. Most believe that Marluxia is a homosexual (as he was originally supposed to be a girl character xD) because of his liking of flowers and his obsession with the color pink. They also think that he is quite bland, not really showing his emotions. Not to say that many fans also do not think of Marluxia as cool. He is the only main villain that is not some kind of carbon clone of Xehanort. And his final boss battle in Chain of Memories was pretty awesome.
But of course the fans can describe Marluxia best. Forum member, Azrael , gives us their opinion to tell us exactly what they think about Marluxia:
In Conclusion:While not many in the Kingdom Hearts fan-dom like to give much credit, but Marluxia was perhaps the first original main antagonist since Maleficent in the original Kingdom Hearts that proved to be a major threat to Sora. Not only that, him being completely unrelated to Xehanort was something that was a fresh break from what would be a repetitive cycle that is known in the Kingdom Hearts to fight Xehanort. Sora's arc in CoM was spared of Xehanort although Riku's, for good reason though, had Xehanort involved in the story. His fascination with roses, specifically the ones that appeared to be sakuras. You know those are associated with Death despite their pretty appearance which correlates well with him being the Grim Reaper persona of the Organization.
His mannerisms and way of speaking are much like that of Xehanort's nobody Xemnas. Long-winded and probably in the eyes of his opponent Sora and those around him, quite boring but he speaks in a rather sophisticated manner, probably one of the one things that the English dub of Re:CoM has provided us even though some still complain that they played around the dialogue. Unlike the other members of the Organization, he, along with Xemnas, Xion, and Roxas, had not just one but several themes devoted to the Graceful Assassin which are just simply amazing to have your ears listen to. His attempt to seize control of the Organization from Xemnas was never elaborated much aside from how Square Enix made him a fan-boy of the Keyblade during one of the missions that he went to Roxas prior to being transferred to Castle Oblivion.
I believe that not did he wish to control the Organization but he wanted to speed things along. Xemnas wasn't doing his best achieving what he promised. To have the sensation of becoming whole through the power of Kingdom Hearts. He wanted it and felt that he was the better leader but alas Sora killing him stopping that plan of action. This chance of him winning gave me the inspiration to have the Commission Saga.
So in conclusion, Marluxia is one of the most original villains in the Kingdom Hearts franchise. Hopefully we will be able to learn a little bit more about Marluxia, although he will not make a long appearance in Days. For now we just have to wait until September 29 (American release) and October 9 (European release) to see what else we can learn about the graceful assassin.
