English Data found on Japanese Kingdom Hearts HD 2.5 ReMIX disk!

Kingdom Hearts -HD 2.5 ReMIX- was released in Japan a few days ago and already it has been discovered that both Kingdom Hearts II Final Mix & Kingdom Hearts Birth By Sleep Final Mix retained their respective dual audio Theater Mode from their original PS2 & PSP releases. While looking through the data from Kingdom Hearts -HD 2.5 ReMIX-'s disk, YouTube user crazycatz00 has also discovered that most of the English data for Kingdom Hearts II Final Mix is also on the disk.
The English data from the disk cannot be accessed normally, but by using a hack to trick the game to believe it is running in English, it will load the English data for Kingdom Hearts II Final Mix including English dubbed cutscenes & text files and also invert the controls to the NA/EU/PAL standard. He has also found Spanish & French language data for certain menus and textures on the disk. You can see crazycatz00's video of Kingdom Hearts -HD 2.5 ReMIX- running in English below:

I think the bigger question could be is whether Theather mode contains English voices for FINAL MIX exclusive cutscenes.
Not sure if it's ever happened with a KH game before to be honest.
Chaser is still trying to rush through the game to see if the dubbed FM content is included. If it is, then we're waiting 2 months for nothing.

Well 1.5 had japanese data as far are text and textures are related. It didn't have japanese voices though.

It "could" be a marketing reason and that picking a release date around the holidays would garner more sales.
If something like this is discovered in BBS, we're being made to wait two months for English Re:Coded and potential (but doubtful) glitch fixes. With this revelation, there is no excuse for the major glitches to not be fixed.
I would usually spit out some blah choosing marketing decisions over appeasing the fans here. However...It's 2 months. I honestly feel blessed only having to wait 2 months. I'll take 2 months. For the sake of my sanity, I do hope for a simultaneous release for KH3, or I will abstain from the internet.
Moving on topic, I'm kind of surprised they would leave all this in without providing some sort of option. Maybe it was some sort of time issue or just plain didn't want to put the effort in adding the feature or removing the content? I'd hardly believe it was forgotten. Whatever the case, cool beans.

They do have a holiday on the 23rd of December for the Emperor's birthday (since 1868) but I don't think games sell any more or less around that time. Christmas is a bit more of a romantic holiday and likely not celebrated in the same way that the west does as a religious/massive money spending one. In Japan, people will typically spend the holiday going out with their friends or romantic partners, having parties for the year's end, and whatnot. And businesses close for the New Year.
So it isn't so much of a holiday season like in the west where we have multiple religious holidays.

I had to click on them just to see if they were actually all in English. I probably won't watch anymore just so I don't see them all before I get the game. But if we do have to wait, 2 months is a lot better than the 6 month wait for 1.5. About that last line of yours, after all the news we've gotten over the last few days I wouldn't say that's impossible and if it is true we all might as well learn how to do it and import 2.5 now. xD

They won't need to explain anything. If anything this is free marketing for Square as people who don't want to wait and have CFW PS3s will import the game.
I think I'd like Square Enix to incorporate dual audio into their games in the future more often. It seems possible for them to do it. Final Fantasy Type-0 HD having dual audio seems to be going in the right direction.

I am fully expecting this to happen. If they took the time to actually get the English dialogue and script for the extra scenes for the Final Mix editions of II and Birth by Sleep, I can see them doing so for Re:coded despite not having a (visible) option to switch between the two languages.

IIRC, they also generally eat cake on Christmas. At the very least, I remember hearing Shujin and Kaya discussing it on Bakuman.

I'm pretty sure that was Willa. It has been a little while since she voiced Aqua, so I'm not too surprised that the way she said that line was a little different than how she sounded. Remember that in the Days "game" in I.5, several Organization members sounded different thanks to not having voiced their characters for nearly ten years.

I know what you are talking about, but IIRC, that segment simply had spliced sound clips of Xemnas and Roxas speaking in that scene a la Sora versus Xemnas in the first game's Final Mix.

Moreso Xaldin than Demyx, but the latter was just a tad off from his initial performance. I just don't pay too much attention to it since Xaldin was, well...
Anyway, I think Luxord's voice actually improved a bit since his debut, but I'd expect no less from Robin Atkin Downes.
And, of course, Xemnas, Xigbar, Saix and Axel still sound perfect to me.

It's so cool that the English data is included in the Japanese version of the game! Though, hacking is not my forte so waiting for the English version is just fine. They really should've released a multi-language version for the Japanese market but then it could've interfered with sales for the other branches of SE.

If this was intentional, then it's going to become Canon that Namine's voice changes depending on her mood (jk...maybe). When she's happy and cheerful she sounds like Brittany but when she's sad or feeling guilty she sounds like Meaghan. After the magic cape was added, I wouldn't put anything past anyone.

Yeah, and I remember that Christopher Lee's lines were redone before by Corey Burton, for Days I believe. So yeah I'm 90% sure that is nothing contractual either. If anything I'd say its just they didn't want to spend the money/couldn't spend the money...

That's a common misunderstanding tbh.

I can probably answer a bit of that without breaking NDA. There's one extreme, when a score is orchestrated, performed by live musicians, wrapped up, and that's it. In Square Enix games most intros/endings are like that, all the way back to FF8. The other extreme is when a score is sequenced/synthesized. Traditionally this comes from the methodology of getting music onto older consoles, where more often than not it was a specialized task realizing the composer's music on hardware, where each musical event would trigger a specific sound at a specific pitch (so this data could be ripped to MIDI-like formats). These are terrifically small compared to fixed, streaming audio files. Even as late as the PS2, music in games could still opt to use a sequenced format. (This was then emulated pretty accurately by efforts like the PSF2 format). While the PS2 (and PSX, honestly) was perfectly capable of streaming audio, Square Enix stuck to this sequencing in a lot of their games, probably because the methodology was familiar to them. (KH2, FFX) But with the added power, more elaborate 'samples' started being used. For example, in KH2, the saxophone lines in Lazy Afternoons are an actual recording, triggered just like the rest of the instruments. Skip forward to now, and sequenced music in games is very rare. However, it's not accurate to call them 'orchestrated', because while the music is streamed from a single file, that doesn't completely describe how the file was put together- e.g. if it was an orchestration in the traditional sense, or sequenced, except in a DAW instead of real-time by the game. The benefit of that latter over the old method is that the person doing the sequencing is no longer limited to the console hardware, and has much greater control over how the end product sounds, since all the game does is play back a stream. The downside however, of course, is that since it's a single file, you lose a lot of the neat tricks you could do when the music was being synthesized realtime. Sonic's speed shoes powerup is an easy example of this. Granted, there's been a lot of advances in implementing some form of interactivity into streamed audio files (western games pioneered a lot of this, although the music in these generally lend themselves better to moulding on the fly. FFXIII-2 also experimented a little with this) Anyway, I digress. What I meant to say is that just because a soundtrack is in a streamed format (BBS specifically) doesn't automatically mean it was orchestrated. In most cases nowadays it's a mix of sequencing and live instruments, as budget dictates. (Even Jason Graves often uses his own custom sample libraries mixed in with live musicians for his soundtracks) As to what we did in BBS, you'll just have to wait to find out :V. Rage Awakened was touched up, but then again it was more a KH2FM track than a BBS track so that's not exactly a surprise! |
