It's been a bumpy road for the Kingdom Hearts -HD 1.5 ReMIX- guidebook but the wait is almost over. After initially being delayed by 3 weeks, the guide has been delayed by an additional few days. The guidebook is now scheduled to be released on Monday the 21st of October. To celebrate the upcoming release date, Amazon has put up some images from the guidebook providing an in-depth look at what to expect next week.

I've been putting it off because of the exams, and also because I kinda didn't want the guide to go to waste xD
That's strange, Prima Games uses almost exact the same layout as the old Piggyback guide, it's just a bit more bland. Check it out for yourself, the Wonderland sample page can be found here (first download).
The book looks gorgeous... I wonder, will it eventually hit the shelves in international chains of bookstores? Sometimes the sellers at Amazon only ship to certain countries, and I'm afraid that my country isn't one of those countries. It happens quite often. -_-

That is the first thing I thought of, I mean, this guide is a definite pickup for me for the Re:CoM section alone, but the KH1 section is looking exactly like the original one, just much blander :P

Not really impressed with this guide in terms of design... hm.
The KH1 section looks a bit bland for my tastes, I'd have preferred a bit more color or rather colors for each world's section. Still getting it though.
Mine says it's supposed to be delivered on the 18th (still haven't got an email saying it's been delayed again though) and it hasn't even dispatched, but the main page on the UK site says "Usually dispatched within 1 to 2 months?" I've emailed Amazon and they said they're going to look into it, I'll post what they say when they get back to me...

Ah, so it's actually about the logistics, not about the content itself? I was afraid that I might be getting the wrong impression that the content is unorganised (going by the words "unorganised guidebook"), while from what I've seen from the pictures, they look alright to me. Thanks for clarifying.
So Amazon was sending emails that the book will ship out in 1 to 2 months. I presume that's because the guys at Prima themselves decided to delay the dispatch, and that it has nothing to do with Amazon. Am I correct in saying so?

Damn it, this is the same shit that happened with the Diablo III guide back in September. When it was supposed to be in stock on Amazon, they had this huge delay all of a sudden and it said "Usually ships in 1 to 2 months". They're seriously doing this AGAIN? I know Best Buy isn't getting it and that's where I ended up going to get the D3 guide. Perhaps Barnes and Noble will get it, since they have it listed on their website.
Funny thing is, the guide's product page still says that it's releasing on Oct 21st. But my delivery date says "Unknown" and I have it on One Day Shipping, so if it doesn't ship by tomorrow, then something's screwy over at Amazon.
This is such crap. And to think, the same thing is probably going to happen again if/when Prima makes a 2.5 guide.
EDIT: My guide now says "Pre-ordered" as it's status and according to Amazon's description, that means that they have my order, and they have the guide too, but they haven't prepared it for shipment yet. Perhaps it may get to my house on Monday after all.

While it might come as no surprise if they delay it yet again, that'd be so unprofessional of them. Doing so would just be punching themselves on the face… and would only hurt their image in the eyes of their customers.

They've taken almost an additional month to finalize all the details, not finish the guide. So, I can't think of anything else that would delay it. Pretty sure it's actually releasing this time, lol.
Hopefully this doesn't happen again if they make a 2.5 guide.

How big is it? Do you think it's the same size as the other guides published in the past?
And I like the ribbon bookmark and its selection of colour. Matches well with the overall scheme of the façade of the book.
I'm not sure if they say anywhere how big it is (they might) but it does appear the size of all their other guides, perhaps looking at the limited edition FFXIII guides would be a good reference since they're the size of normal guides (even though they aren't Prima's) and the FFXIII-2 one even has its own bookmark on top of it! I do like the bookmark touch, it does come in handy, especially since I find with hardcovers that it's very hard to keep the book open on its own on a page you like without putting something heavy on top of the book which would hurt its binding.

I haven't seen the FFXIII strategy guides, but it's decently sized. It's 400 pages and about 11x8 inches? I honestly expected it to be a bit smaller for some reason xD; But ohmygosh it's so prettyyyyyy ;w; The hard cover looks amazing!

For that, it was definitely worth the wait. There's massive amounts of info on the 2 games (it only lists the trophies for 358/2 Days, which is fine), plus the cover is amazing. But it still feels a bit rushed at some parts, mostly because some items are missing from the table of contents. It's not a huge issue, but there's so much content that it makes it hard to find certain things, like the KHFM trophies.

Instead of ordering it online I was planning to simply go pick it up at any number of locations which normally have strategy guides (EB Games, Coles, Chapters, Walmart, Best Buy, Future Shop) but NONE of them show it in stock on their websites. I also went to several of those stores to check in person... no luck there either.
I hope this actually gets distributed in retail stores. I'd rather get it that way than online.

Golly, that's quite nice. Judging from the size comparison with the case, I take it that the guidebook is about the size of a letter-sized paper, around 8.5" x 11"?
And it comes with a sticker? Now I have to think where I should paste it on. Probably the lid of my 3DS...

After seeing all of these pretty pictures, I've decided that I am going to have to get this guide.
Literally just unwrapped mine. It's BEAUTIFUL! Not as big as I was anticipating though. I mean, it's probably the thickest strategy guide I've ever owned, but they made it shorter to compensate.
Oh, and that "Weird Photoshop Thing" that Spocky referred to back in the original thread is actually a sticker that they put on the outside plastic wrap. So, when you unwrap it, no 1.5 logo. But the sticker is kinda cool, so I decided to keep it.
Took a flip through it and it's awesome. Worth the wait :)

Aaah, so that's what that little black box was for. I see it now in Rena's picture. It originally looked like a screencap of someone placing that logo in InDesign, you know when everything has borders before you go into Print View mode. lol
Not sure what I'll do with the sticker. I'll probably leave it on the plastic, cut off the excess and toss it in the book.
Ah, reading all this, I just can't wait to have mine delivered already. This'll get a special treatment once it does... displayed in a glass case.

I got my guide today as well and I do enjoy it very much. I have to say it's VERY well made and while the pages of the original KH1 guide outclass this one by far, it's a good guide that has mostly everything in it (from my quick flip-through) and it has a Re:CoM portion!!!!
I also kept my sticker and put it on the front cover (it's quite sticky so I wouldn't put it on a page since if you try to take it off down the road, I'm pretty sure its strong enough to rip the page). It's definitely the thickest KH guide to date but it has the added benefit of not only being hardcover but also being comprised of 2 games. If you REALLY want to be nitpicky, technically the largest KH guide is the LE KH2 guide with the hardcover and Jiminy's Journal inside (at least the US guides, IDK how thick the Ultimanias are since I've only seen them in photos).

The guide by BradyGames compiled all the information about command melding in a really huge table, showing you just how many combinations there are. Plus, we can also benefit from guides on all the many extras included in KH2FM, such as how to beat the new Mushroom Heartless and Absent Silhouettes.
So yeah, not only it would be excellent to have, it'd be a godsend.

You should. The LE guide has the second absolute worst binding I've ever seen for a strategy guide. Pretty soon, you'd to keep the pages together manually.

Yeah, but still he's supposed to be a completely unidentified enigma in the first game.
And he is... until a person looks in the guide or they watch 358/2 Days or plays kingdom hearts 2 and beyond.
So the guide uses Xemnas to identify the Hollow Bastion secret boss. That was what I would like to know when it was first announced, whether it would refer to him as Xemnas or Unknown (or something similar).
For us who have played KH2 and see Xemnas dancing around with his ethereal blades, it's already obvious who the real identity of the man is. However, for those who haven't, it's kind of a spoiler, don't you think? But at least the fight doesn't really give away much information about what Xemnas was trying to accomplish by fighting Sora, and newcomers to the series would probably just see him as a simple secret boss battle like Kurt Zisa and Phantom, albeit with nonsensical (as of yet) speech thrown into the picture.
Honestly, if I was a new player to the series and I had the guide book and saw his name I would go "Oh, he has a name. Just like Kurt Zisa and The Phantom. Cool" and then be on my way. Not until I get to Re:CoM would I question the appearance and go "wait, they are dressed like that man. But none of their names are Xemnas...".

Anyway, the book is flawed and the layout is somewhat dull. I'll just leave it at that.

While I understand that it's a spoiler to some, who honestly cares? Him being in KH1 is just as big as LS was in KH2, not really important. All they do is hint at the next game but they do not affect or spoil anything huge in the storyline one way or the other. Also, if the person has never played KH before, they won't know who "Xemnas" really is, so he'll just be a name in the wind.
If anything, it'll lead to an "A HA!" moment when they see him in Days and realize who he was (since I'm assuming some people won't connect the dots).

No guide is perfect and I agree that the inside is dull, but I still think it's definitely one of the best KH guide books to come out (not the best, I still leave that to the main KH1 guide) but really nice and on the better half (way better than DDD -__-)...

Well yeah, that's why I said at least Xemnas doesn't really do anything relevant to the story, seen from a new player's eyes. It doesn't exactly spoil the story, and for most people, it most likely isn't a hint enough yet to conclude that Xemnas is actually a villain.
It's not a big deal, but it's just I wasn't expecting the guide to refer to him as Xemnas since the game itself has its own way of referring to him in Jiminy's Journal, which is Unknown.

My biggest gripe with DDD is that they practically didn't give much thought about dispositions. They only Explain what each Spirit will generally do in different dispositions, and that's it... they didn't tell how to change dispositions (which is a pain to figure out by yourself), or anything at all about those disposition-linked abilities.

Besides the fact that they COMPLETELY FORGOT ABOUT A PAGE ON JULIUS, sure the disposition thing was annoying. Although in the end, the dispositions I felt were like EVs in Pokemon (which usually aren't covered in the guides), which to an extent, was like a hidden aspect of the game, not something blatantly obvious like Julius lol
My guide arrived today and I'm pretty dissapointed with it.
The walkthrough sections are fine but the rest is kinda meh. For example there is just one tiny infobox for the new gummi missions nothing more, also the design gummi blocks are completly missing. Most of the design was taken from the Piggyback guide and altered for the Final Mix version and is okay for this reason but everything that was added seems to be tacked on and is often incomplete. Another example for this are the "secret opponents", the new Heartless that were added in the Final Mix. Each of them should requiere at least a little infobox because their combat and meet-up mechanics differ from the other Heartless but Prima just gives them a stats page and nothing more.
But what's even worse is the Re:CoM section, honestly it's so bad. There are four pages that list the worlds at the beginning complete with big images and uninteresting captions, they are even repeated for Reverse/Rebirth without captions this time, just the world's name that can cleary be seen in the image.
Then at the beginning of each world chapter there is a page that has a a huge map without annotations and a huge image, that in Riku's case often just displays him standing before a door and is completly black otherwise.
The walkthrough sections itself is not thought through. If they have such a big map, why not put numbers on it and use it in the walkthrough so I can skip to the part I have problems with?
There are is also no information available whatsoever regarding the different room layouts, the enemies that can appear, the cards that can appear, the new abilitites I can earn or how many cards I need to open the door to the event rooms.
The worst of the worst are the boss sections, they're just a bunch of tips in a row. There is no information regarding the bosses card decks, their sleights or weaknesses, something which become extremly important on higher difficulty levels (which the guide also doesn't talk about).
Honestly the Bradygames guide for Chain of Memories is a gold mine of information compared to this poor excuse of a Re:CoM guide, every gamefaq out there is more detailed.
Another thing that bothered me (because I'm looking out for such things) is how the items and cards are cropped screenshots from the game, they couldn't even be bothered to ask SE for the official renders of this stuff.
Honestly I'm sending this thing back, it's really not worth it if you have another guide already. And oh boy will Prima Games fail if they're trying to make a HD 2.5 ReMIX guide the same way they did this one.
Why nobody talks to Studio BentStuff to translate their Ultimania guides (even if they just would take the bare walkthrough and item/enemy tables and leave the character/interview/artwork sections out) is beyond me.
My guide arrived today and I'm pretty dissapointed with it.
The walkthrough sections are fine but the rest is kinda meh. For example there is just one tiny infobox for the new gummi missions nothing more, also the design gummi blocks are completly missing. Most of the design was taken from the Piggyback guide and altered for the Final Mix version and is okay for this reason but everything that was added seems to be tacked on and is often incomplete. Another example for this are the "secret opponents", the new Heartless that were added in the Final Mix. Each of them should requiere at least a little infobox because their combat and meet-up mechanics differ from the other Heartless but Prima just gives them a stats page and nothing more.
But what's even worse is the Re:CoM section, honestly it's so bad. There are four pages that list the worlds at the beginning complete with big images and uninteresting captions, they are even repeated for Reverse/Rebirth without captions this time, just the world's name that can cleary be seen in the image.
Then at the beginning of each world chapter there is a page that has a a huge map without annotations and a huge image, that in Riku's case often just displays him standing before a door and is completly black otherwise.
The walkthrough sections itself is not thought through. If they have such a big map, why not put numbers on it and use it in the walkthrough so I can skip to the part I have problems with?
There are is also no information available whatsoever regarding the different room layouts, the enemies that can appear, the cards that can appear, the new abilitites I can earn or how many cards I need to open the door to the event rooms.
The worst of the worst are the boss sections, they're just a bunch of tips in a row. There is no information regarding the bosses card decks, their sleights or weaknesses, something which become extremly important on higher difficulty levels (which the guide also doesn't talk about).
Honestly the Bradygames guide for Chain of Memories is a gold mine of information compared to this poor excuse of a Re:CoM guide, every gamefaq out there is more detailed.
Another thing that bothered me (because I'm looking out for such things) is how the items and cards are cropped screenshots from the game, they couldn't even be bothered to ask SE for the official renders of this stuff.
Honestly I'm sending this thing back, it's really not worth it if you have another guide already. And oh boy will Prima Games fail if they're trying to make a HD 2.5 ReMIX guide the same way they did this one.

I honestly have to agree with you. These guides have nothing on the previous ones. From design and layout to helpfulness. This book is absolutely shit. I'd send it back to Amazon if I could but I think it's too late.
Not only is just a bad book, but it's also incorrect. I've been trying to track down the last couple of Dalmatians and where the guide tells me it's in the main square of Halloween town, it's actually a white trinity on Moonlight Hill. Absolutely ridiculous.
My advice to everyone on KHI: don't buy the guide. It's not worth your money. Just use IGN, or better yet have someone here put together a guide. If the ACCC could help me out here, I'd probably contact them. I've just wasted money on an incorrect and poorly designed game guide.
I agree with what everyone above says. The one plus about this guide is that, externally, it's a beautiful guide so if you just plan on keeping it on your table as a conversation piece or adding something sleek and classy to your room, this is not a bad option ;)
