Kingdom Hearts 3 Will Launch in 2018!

After the reveal of Toy Story for Kingdom Hearts 3, Square Enix confirmed that Kingdom Hearts 3 WILL RELEASE IN 2018!
The exciting announcement occured at D23 after a trailer showed off the Toy Story world where Sora will team up with Buzz and Woody to find their missing friends. The world will also feature Young Xehanort seeking answers about the Heart and Darkness.
Kingdom Hearts 3 will also have worlds based on Tangled, Hercules, and Big Hero 6.

SO happy!!! 2018 can't get here fast enough! People are already being naysayers on social media saying "its never coming out" as usual, but I have faith that Nomura can deliver before 2018 is over!
While it was almost predictable, just knowing that within 16 months we'll finally be playing it is too much to believe.

I thought it was interesting Nomura didn't mention the date at all during the show with how big of a deal it is just to get a year is after all of these years. All the questions are scripted so they chose not to mention it. I assume we'll get an interview with him within the next two weeks. It's such a big announcement there's no way we're not getting a new interview shortly.
Lets hope its January 2018...most people will be in too much hibernation and miss it...

Please, please, please be released early 2018. It'll probably be released in winter 2018 like all the other main games but I really hope that it's released in spring 2018.

Its gonna be November at best. If they were aiming for the first half of the year, they would have made a point of it in this trailer.
Don't know if anyone noticed this, but KH2 came out in Dec 2005. KH3 comes out in 2018. That's a 13 year gap right there.

I'm so excited. I didn't expect a release date/year at all! Was anticipating it to come out in 2019/2020. Can't believe it's actually coming out in 2018!!

Does anyone with insider info have an educated guess as to how far along S-E is in development?
I think the best part about this news is that worst case the latest we get this game is March 2019. With the financial report about three years, it left us a bit in the dark leaving holiday 2019 and 2020 in the mix. Now we know that worst case with a delay, it's not more than a year and a half Ish away.
edit: For Angel, if they're planning to release this by holiday 2018, the game will be in alpha by fall at the latest. 99% of games go into alpha a year before release. Alpha means the game is fully playable from start to finish.

My guess is it's feature complete and will be moving out of alpha and into beta where they do bug control and visual boosts.

Pretty much every Square game that has come out lately has been delayed at least once. So, when this game does finally get an actual release date, I'm going to take it as "Okay, so it'll be a few months after that date".
I'd like to believe it won't get delayed once a proper date is announced, but honestly look at just about every major release from Square in the past few years, and they were all delayed following their proper release date reveal. So, while this is great news, if KH3 is planned to release Holiday 2018, there's a good chance we may end up getting it delayed into 2019.
Either way though, this is great to FINALLY see an actual release window.

For someone with a Persona 5 avatar, I was under the assumption that you have a PS4.

I'm honestly thinkin the same thing. While it might be wishful thinking, I think they have a summer release in mind with a potential delay in mind in case anything needs tuning up. Either way no matter what happens I feel it'll be in a better spot than FFXV what with the longer dev cycle, more established engine, and obviously a more focused direction and collaboration among Square and Disney.

This is very true, yes. 2.8 and Nier were the result of all of Square's releases getting shifted to accomodate FFXV's delay. And yes, I don't believe there has been a delay of any of the major 2017 releases. I also don't believe any of the KH games have been delayed (aside from 2.8). So perhaps there is hope after all :)
I am beyond confident that this will release next year. As to when next year, that is very unsure. In my opinion, anytime starting from March is very likely, and as much as I would love a Spring or Summer release, I'm thinking it will release in the Fall or Winter. I think if we get more trailers this year (which is very likely), the date will become slowly revealed, with the next trailer or two maybe having a quarter or season. If the game is shown off at D23 Japan next year, we probably will get the final date then. Till then, I am unbelievably hyped and ecstatic to see what's next on the plate for KH3 reveals.
I could see them wanting to show it off at E3 2018 before its release. At some point after then I think it will come out.

I'd like to believe that whole "calendar behind Young Eraqus" conspiracy and say that KH3 is coming March 2018. That month perfectly aligns with that calendar and big KH releases have a history of releasing in March. But, I also feel that may be a bit too soon. I don't think the game is quite that close to release. That's only 8 months away. I feel like this is going to be a fall/winter 2018 release.

with Nomura saying stuff like not all gameplay mechanics are finalized when talking about how they're uncertain on exactly how keyblade transformations will be activated, I find it very hard to believe that this game could be ready before summer.

Yeah, as much as I would love that, that may not happen. If it were, we'd need to get the date soon, probably before the end of the year. I'm banking on a summer or a fall/winter release.

Hmm... Not necessarily. March could work, but it depends on how far along they would be. We're in the middle of July now, so approximately eight months could be all they need. It's tough because Nomura's not like Tabata, where you get Active Time Reports on the updates of the game, so we really don't have a clue. All we know is that Nomura feels confident in a 2018 date, and if that's the case, then he probably already know whereabouts in the year he'll want to release it. Of course, things happen and it can always be delayed, but I don't think we'll be seeing a November release unless they're wanting to cash in on the holidays. I think we'll see it in maybe August or September.

This game is not going to be done by January. And to your second point, thats not how a corporation works. They need constant revenue streams. You can't just put all of your resources on to one team coupled with the fact of the law of diminishing returns where adding more people will help progress the game less and less until you get to a point where adding more people will slow down the process of the game. But regardless of that, they need to have resources on other games so games continue to come out at a constant pace after KH3, otherwise all of their other work is going to be delayed by a year or two. If you said that about FFXV in 2015 to just get it out and put all resources on XV, then KH3 wouldn't be out until like 2019 or 2020.
I was hoping for 2018 release but I thought maybe it was wishful thinking....but hey it's happening.....and I stil can't believe it. I'm still nervous though because I really don't want it to be pushed back at all. I'm hoping November 2018 the latest.
