Square Enix and Disney have released a three new screenshots and from Kingdom Hearts 3 which focus on the newly announced Monster's Inc world, the Kingdom of Corona, the Toy Story world, and Riku's voyage into the Dark World.
This past weekend at D23 Expo Japan 2018, a special event for Disney fans created by D23: The Official Disney Fan Club, held at Tokyo Disney Resort®, SQUARE ENIX® and Disney thrilled fans with the announcement of a new Disney•Pixar film based world, Monsters, Inc., in KINGDOM HEARTS III. Two new trailers, revealed during the Expo, take viewers deep into the frights and delights of the animated classic as Sora, Donald and Goofy transform into monsters to blend into the Monstropolis cityscape.
During their epic adventure, Sora and his companions join forces with Mike Wazowski and James P. “Sulley” Sullivan, with a special appearance by Boo. Fright team all-stars Mike and Sulley lend their scaring talents and special combination attacks against their enemies.SQUARE ENIX also revealed new cutscenes and gameplay from the Toy Story-inspired world, Disney princess Rapunzel (Tangled) as a party member, flashy Keyblade transformations, a link system featuring Ariel (The Little Mermaid), and the return of Dream Eater Meow Wow as well as KINGDOM HEARTS villains Marluxia and Vanitas.
Fans were also treated to a second trailer teasing a mysterious exchange between Riku and King Mickey and the announcement of a new theme song by international sensation and series veteran singer Hikaru Utada, titled “DON’T THINK TWICE.”

I really like how SDG look as monsters, must be the color scheme that makes it look so appealing. Sora looks great in gray, really brings out his blue eyes and a nice contrast with the red.

I love these renders ugh. I also LOVE Riku's Keyblade!! Mickey also looks really good. Also the Monster forms are starting to really grow on me SOOO GOOD

I really love the designs of Sora, Donald and Goofy as monsters. I know now you're starting to see people have issues with Goofy's design not being as interesting. I think if they gave him tentacles for arms and longer dragon/serpent like neck, it would be better. But i really don't have an issue with his look.
Mickey, Mike and Sulley, look great as always. And Riku looks like Noctis more than ever XD

Damn, really sad to see Way to the Dawn go. Really was one of my favorite designs.
I am looking forward to that replacement keyblade, though. Maybe he's saying that his "other him" will inherit that old blade and it will still be active while he's using the new one? What's his new one called, the Not-Fenrir-we-Swear-Guys? Ah well, I still hope that whoever gets that old Way to the Dawn is able to fix it somehow. It's just not the same without that wing.
I should also note that, upon a closer look, that monsters inc. keyblade isn't as bad as I thought it was. It's still a little bland, but I like the keychain and the door that is on it. And I'll be damned, but that Tangled keyblade restored my love for the Disney world keyblades that's been long lost since Birth by Sleep's designs didn't thrill me. It's wonderful; the transformation, the shotlock (or should I say "shootlock"), the tower move, AAH IT'S SO PRETTY

All these renders are amazing! Also I'm so glad they worked on Mickey noticeably more from his 0.2 appearance. His eyes are finally right again! And of course, my boy Riku looking fresh as hell and his keyblade looks like a giant pair of scissors to go with that new cut.

All these renders are amazing! Also I'm so glad they worked on Mickey noticeably more from his 0.2 appearance. His eyes are finally right again! And of course, my boy Riku looking fresh as hell and his keyblade looks like a giant pair of scissors to go with that new cut.

Also I'm loving that his hair is going more in the proper silver-direction now than before. It looks so goood.

Speaking of, these screens are so gorgeous. You can see a lot more detail than even the uncompressed trailer provides. Just absolutely gorgeous stuff.

Anyone else questioning the quality of Riku's render? Specifically his hair? His hair looks more gray than it does purple.

Wow... those renders. No wonder Nomura and Yasue were so passionate about describing the Kingdom Shader. Sully and Mike look like they're straight form Pixar. Shame that Woody and Buzz Lightyear renders have yet to be released for some reason.
And loving Riku's new Keyblade. I think the weapon being inspired by a car key is a smart inspiration.

I don't know exactly why, but Sully looks WAY better in this render than in the trailer.
Great to see the "Give me Strength!" portion of the Ariel Summon, too.
And wow! Corona looks gorgeous in these HD screenshots!

I love Riku's new design so much. I get the complaints that he looks like Noctis, but, eh. *shrug* It isn't that bad to me. I didn't like that they gave him short hair in 3D anyway, but at least now it has a nice shape to it. The character looked horrible in 2.8 or 0.2, whatever it was.
I definitely prefer the monster designs for SDG over how they look in the Toy Story world (those were a letdown).

So Riku's now fully silver hair...it's strange to me. I know I know in KH1 it was silver, but it was more greyish silver. Then after that it gain this slight purple tint to it. Presumably from using the darkness and stuff. In 2.8 it still had that purple tint to it. (I also have a Riku action figure and it too has a purple tint to the hair).
Now it could possibly be that Riku doesn't use darkness anymore in KH3...but why would it change his hair back? At least to me, I saw it as the darkness "stained" his hair and it got that purple tint.
I mean it could happen with the darkness purple tint leaving his hair but it just seems strange to me since now it's a much more vivid silver that KH1.

I'm glad, since Fenrir probably won't be in :l If there's a Sephy fight, it'll give a new keyblade. At least I have something similar to love in KH3 now. I always use Fenrir when possible in KH2 even though the ability isn't ideal for everything because it just looks too goood!

Not a KHi problem, but it genuinely makes me kinda sad how like 99% of the responses to Riku are "oh, Noctis 2!!!", "Noctis fake D:" or "is Nomura serious Riku is a Noctis replica now."
Am I the only one who feels a certain joy in Nomura being able to have a similar design to what he bascically created for Versus XIII / XV in a game that he is in charge for? Am I being melancholic here or what xD

Tangled: Eugene dies for Rapunzel ---> Rapunzel's love of Eugene makes her cry one tear that heals
Hercules: Meg dies for Hercules ---> Hercules gains godhood because of his love and pulls Meg from the underworld
Frozen: Anna has a frozen heart ---> Elsa saves Anna with a loving hug
And then we have stuff like Big Hero 6 with Evil Baymax who is being used like a puppet
BH6 will likely culminate in Hiro using his love of his brother and Baymax to free Evil Baymax from the Darkness.

Obviously the highlight of this is Riku's new Keyblade, which I am happy to get another modern style one but as others have said, its slightly plain. I could see it opening the box like Spockanort said...if the handle has that red, spiky heart thing on it then definitely haha.
Happy to get renders of the new forms and Mike and Sully! Would like those for all the party members eventually.

The middle is different in the render and the key chain is Boo not the door.
Also Riku's new Keyblade is ugly and generic.

Chill. No one actually believes it's Fenrir. We're simply calling that because we don't have an official name for it and that's what it immediately reminds us of. Also because the similarities amuses us.

I really am low-key expecting Jack as a summon given how popular he is though lol. I would love Mulan as well since yea I don't see it making it into this game. Too bad there was no Ifrit summon in XV cuz that sounds more up her alley.

I know it has been greyish silver since the beginning. Just this new model looks way more silver (also his eyes are greener).

I really, really like Riku's new look. It somehow grows on me more every time I see it and I loved it when I first saw it lol. Then again I love FFXV so...
That keyblade is interesting - it really does look like a mix between Fenrir and a straight up blank key. It would be cool if this was something like, since it's a new keyblade, it will eventually have a different form as Riku's journey as a master goes on. I wonder why he has to give up his old one though, it fit him so well and I think that's why I kinda want this new one to take on a new form that's a visual representation of his journey like WTD was.

Way to Dawn fit Riku's character and battle style a lot more. This new Fenrir ripoff will take some getting used to since it doesn't look like it fits well with his quick-slash battle style.

Ooh this would actually be really cool. Bambi was my favorite summon as a kid, I had no idea what it was doing really, dropping MP balls everywhere but it was so cute jumping around.

Guys, the new Riku design shows a lot of character development. He's not holding onto the darkness as much and is generally a happier guy. Just cause he looks like a Noctis rip-off doesn't mean it's not a neat design. As for the keyblade, lets not forget that the Kingdom Key is just a key. A key with a handle inside the loop.

Uh no, you don't get Fenrir after defeating Sephiroth, lol.
In fact Sora never even comes close to even harming Sephiroth because while he admits Sora is a skilled warrior all he does is dusting off his coat after their fight.
You get the Fenrir Keychain because Tifa gives it to Sora in gratitude for aiding her quest. There's even a cutscene in KH 2 where she puts the Keychain into Sora's hand so IF that blade has truly something to do with Fenrir (or is a version of it) Riku would most likely acquire it from Tifa as well.
The same Keychain being used by multiple people is also nothing new as we already have examples in form of Star Seeker, Oathkeeper and Oblivion.
Going by the look of it while it looks bigger than Way to the Dawn it really isn't that much bigger overall.
Only the blade is somewhat thicker making it look more heavy, but it also looks reasonably lightweight so Riku could still use it in his preferred Battle style.
It's blade is also way brighter than Fenrir is and might thus a metaphor for his whole "Dawn"-theme.

That religion is already dead, everyone knows that when Xehanort's plans to turn Sora went sour he went to the most powerful being in the universe to combat him - Kairi's grandma, now known as Grannynort or Xehananny.

I hope there is a Gazing Eye on that faux-fenrir Keyblade. I'm so used to Riku always wielding one on his weapon (save for his DDD Keyblades of course..).
So I'm sure this has been brought up before, but with Monsters Inc coming to KH3 that pretty much rules out Halloween Town coming back right? Not that I'm complaining, they worked the story as much as they possibly could, but it'd been neat to see HT in these new graphics. So I figure they won't have two worlds based on monsters and there isn't any way they could spin a new story.
Also with Ariel being a summon do you suppose that rules out Atlantica coming back as well? Kind of like having a Peter Pan summon in KH2 without Neverland.

The renders look way better than the trailers, especially the ones for Sulley and Goofy. I guess this is what they are going for in the end and the leaks kinda made them show it early?
I really like Riku's design. The keyblade will have to grow on me. Because... it's so plain, looks like Fenrir, and I loved The Way to Dawn.

I doubt they'd bring back Atlantica simply due to the major backlash for how bad it was. Nomura sticks to his stories but the folks at SE aren't dumb. I think they purposely showed off Ariel as a summon in that trailer to ease people's minds about the possibility of another Atlantica.

There is also a hidden crown in the blade of the Kingdom Key. And no, not just the blade part... but in the part thats not there. It's shaped just like Sora's necklace. I also think the colors compliment.

This is the closest picture I could find that looks similar to my key. Does anyone know what type this is called? The one pictured is actually used for lockpicking, but they make regular keys like this as well. It's probably what Riku's Keyblade is based on.

The fact that the sully render looks so good compared to the trailer makes me think that the trailer isn’t the most accurate display of the exact point of development of the game. I could be wrong as I don’t know how game development works, but that’s just my thoughts (and hopes cause sully and Sora and boo were looking a little... not up to par with the other worlds graphics)

I'm with you there. I liked how everyone looked back when I was an edgy teen but now I've grown and they've slightly grown and you can definitely notice it. This is gonna be a game for the history books bois.

For future: if we have database issues and you post and it said "there was an error with your post", it actually went through. Just cleaned up roughly 15 messages that were posted in error due to the errors last night.
Back in ye olde days, magazines had covers of all of Sora, Donald, and Goofy's different transformations as a "collect them all" type of thing. I hope this is done with regular, Toy Story, and Monsters Inc forms.

I gotta say, I love the new look for Riku. His eyes are distinctly less aquamarine and his hair definitely less tinted. Shows the game is growing up a bit, moving a little away from the extreme stylization of old.
I do wonder what we'll see with the new Kairi. Will her hair be toned down in color? Her eyes maybe going back towards the violet blue instead of the straight blue they tended after in most cutscenes?
The possibilities are endless.

Between the official plot synopsis, the magazine excerpt, the new keyblade design having the same keychain as Kingdom Key, and the new Bring Arts figure... I'm pretty much convinced.
I'd enjoy playing as Riku and Mickey in the Dark World. Aqua and Mickey was cool but not the same.

Wow this looks so amazing! I'm a long time can of the kingdom hearts series. Kingdom hearts was my first ps2 game back in the early 2000s. How the 3rd one is coming out! I'm a a little behind on the story but I'll definitely catch up

Also if you look at the character HUD icons they're desaturated around the lips and eyes on the JP screencap compared to the NA ones, although that could be something from 4Gamer.
I'm not seeing much of a difference on the HUD icons. What I am able to see is very minor, but that may just be my eyes.
There's certainly some differences between the two screens but that is because they were taken from both the English and the Japanese builds (command text, MP/Health bars) so I'm not sure if we can deny that the amount of water being the reason for the lighter model. However there are some things that are actually different between the two images, such as there being a rock underneath Sora in the Japanese screen.

Also if you look at the character HUD icons they're desaturated on the JP screencap compared to the NA ones, although that could be something from 4Gamer.
And uh... also if you look at the tree behind Sora and the nearby slope, the screenshots are taken from different angles? Combined with the fact that Sora is still facing the screen in each of them, the lighting is of course gonna hit him and everything else a little differently between them.
There's certainly some differences between the two screens but that is because they were taken from both the English and the Japanese builds (command text, MP/Health bars) so I'm not sure if we can deny that the amount of water being the reason for the lighter model. However there are some things that are actually different between the two images, such as there being a rock underneath Sora in the Japanese screen.
I'm pretty sure the rock is in a similar spot, the camera is just not in the same position because it's two separate runs made to look as similar as possible.

I zoomed into both images and flipped back and forth, there's a definite difference in saturation on Donalds tunic, Goofy's goggles, Sora's eyes, and Flynn's face but like I said before that could be from added compression by 4Gamer.

I see the difference in Sora's eyes but I'm struggling with the others.
The rock may not be visible because of the camera position, but it wouldn't be the first time Square Enix released media with things missing. KH1.5 had a bunch of missing assets in their screenshots which was baffling. They recently released a launch trailer for Dissidia which had a bunch of pop in during a cutscene. Even this trailer there was a few things that had a distinct pop in, such as a rock in the forest of Corona.
I honestly don't see much difference in the UI bits either... and even pulling up the screenshots on my 4k Samsung smart tv they look almost identical to me. Saturation offsets/differences are HELLA obvious on these things.
This has been my favorite week of the year.
Man, I love Riku’s new Keyblade. It looks so simple... and clean.
Joking aside. I love it. I think it looks very sleek, and not over done. 10/10. Also his new design got me drooling over here. Damn.
