New screenshots, Mickey and Kairi renders for Melody of Memory

Another wave of screenshots and renders have been released for KINGDOM HEARTS Melody of Memory! Check out the new renders for Mickey and Kairi, and take a look at more gameplay and the main menu variations for each party!

This game can't come fast enough. Everything looks cool, especially Mickey changing outfits with the teams he teams up with. Highly creative. I already said I liked Kairi's render but I'll say it again, Kairi looks great. Hope she is playable in her starring game. I wanna see her KH3 outfit fighting in old style. I can't wait to play all the teams.
My only complaint with this is how dare they show Team BBS doing the happy Excellent score but switch Terra with Mickey? I want happy and jumping Terra already!
I love how Mickey changes clothes depending on which team he's playing with. Really fun touch.
Kairi's render was a great surprise. I also like how she's posed like a conductor.
Seeing a Kingdom Hearts III character model in the traditional Kingdom Hearts style is so surreal.
Is it wrong that I kinda want to see some of the KH3 scenes in the Melody of Memory renders? They are all just so clean, I love them. RAX have never looked better then they do right now on the clock tower, and ATV look down right yummy standing in Land of Departure. Kairi's render sold me on wanting to see it.
Finally! I wonder if we can play her in her original design just as with Sora.
Can't wait for that final song and then a popup appears "Kairi unlocked" and she is just alone going from note to note not needing a team like a badass.
Is she fricken playable or is she NOT? We still don't have a screen of her in action. Jesus Christ I'm on the edge of my seat.

I would find it very weird if they made her model from scratch and not have her be playable in the end.

Like you said earlier, she might be unlocked after the final song. This game looks like it'll have several replay value and missions to do. Maybe she'll have KH3 Sora and Riku as her party members with her leading the melody attack.

You see, Re:Mind did the same thing when they introduced new renders for Sora (Nomura: this is how Sora appears in the Secret Episode), Kairi/Roxas/Riku, and so on. Turns out, those were all one offs without true gameplay depth. Kairi couldn't airstep, Roxas had no focus gauge and actually lost certain attacks from his NPC version + couldnt shotlock or airstep, Riku oddly couldn't airstep, Aqua couldn't airstep.
I know indieszero has done a great job with this game but christ alive I just want Our Girl to get done justice.

But applying a playable kairi to KH3 has a whole would mean a lot more than just giving her basic combos and such. Kairi as she is (or roxas, riku and aqua for that matter) would not work for the full game. They were made and balanced specifically for those one off fights.
This I feel is a bit different. If you have a character made that works in one stage it will work in all the others. The only exception I feel is those boss stages, and even then I feel the effort would be minimal to get it to work there, considering the only animation I've seen there not in the normal stages is a roll.
The only thing I can see that means she is not playable, is that she is alone, and teams are pre-made, so you can't just slot her in one of them.

I was honestly accepting the fact whe wouldn't be playable but now I have my doubts!
Not trying to cut the vibe here, but she can stilll just be a party member in the worlds where she makes sense (KH2's Nobody Castle, KH3 Keyblade War). I hope I'm wrong tho, I wish in the end we play as her for about 3 songs at least...

Is it wrong part of me kinda wishes they never transitioned to the new Unreal 4 visuals? I always loved this old style, Unreal's is beautiful but I think is too much different from the old version - I think they could just smoothen up these models so the characters can look less square-y... But I wouldn't even mind if that was not the case haha

Seeing KH3 Kairi in the old art style is so surreal. Like others I can't help but wonder what the implications are. I'm trying to not get my hopes up too much for a potential playable Kairi. An alternative I can see is, that seeing she was included with Mickey, they have similar roles?
Talking about Mickey his outfit changing for every team he assists is such a cool idea. I love it! It is interesting how he becomes a 4th party member and doesn't just replace one like the other guest characters do.
Also those menu screens look like they'll be really charming. The old art style rendered in Unity looks so nice, it's a shame this might be the only game we'll get like this.

I want a Demake of KH3 with these renders. The Melody of Memory renders seem to have near perfected the old style models and they are gorgeous. Demake KH3 Kairi is so beautiful, and these styles made me realize how much I've missed them. #Demake KH3.
And I still can't get over Mickey slumming it with RAX in his black coat. I almost forgot he use to have one of those, it's been so long. I can't wait to see how the 4th party member and items work. If Kairi isn't playable then she better be a 4th party member too. That render is too good to not be playable.

I'm trying to figure out what other purpose a old art style Kairi could have, but the only real explanation I can think of is that she's somehow playable, either lead or party. They don't need a old style model for the story segments, we've already seen that those are in the new art style and I doubt they'd just make one for promotion purposes.
Also I just noticed all the screenshots we got featuring guest party members feature Team Classic, I doubt that has any greater mean just thought that was interesting.

Perhaps demakes not the word, but I want to see several KH3 scenes rendered in MoM's style. At least from the point of when we save Aqua up til the end of ReMind. I find these renders really are giving the KH3 one's a run for their money. So far I find MoM Roxas and Kairi improvements over the KH3 ones. And the others are straight up eye candy, so I want more of them!

Anyway, I'm kinda doubtful of an unlockable 5th team The trophy list doesn't really hint at it. Kairi will probably be fighting alone against the final boss & that's the extent of her playable status.

I'm kinda hoping someone else gets to work on a KH2FM Kairi mod.
The last person who worked on one seems to have stopped working on it.
The new (kh3) engine is beautiful but this engine that we are used to is the one that fits kingdom hearts the most, not to mention the characters facials expressions and the cgi is much better with this original KH engine compared to the kh3 engine.
Love how this one render pretty much proves the old style would have been perfectly fine (and accepted by the fanbase) to close out the saga with. She looks so adorable!

I half suspect the hooded man will be a lingering memory of Xehanort & will transform into MX with X-blade using the PSP models, using Dark Dominion (purposely unlisted for spoiler reasons) as the track.

I’m starting to regret that I cancelled my preorder because of Hyrule Warriors. Oh mannnnn I Can’t decide which game to play.?
My guess (based on nothing in particular) is that Kairi is going to be a "guest" character that can drop in randomly to assist at various points similar to Mickey or can be summoned to provide some sort of mega-boost support. Afterall, this is all supposed to be going on in her dreams, right? It would make sense that she could sort of lucid-dream her way into the middle of things.
I think after beating the game, then, she might be unlocked as an actual character to select.
That is a lot of nostalgia kicking in. I don’t know if it’s because people just plain miss the old design or they just really want Kairi to be playable. If it’s the latter, I agree and would be thrilled; if it’s the former…ehhhhhhhhhhhh…?

Melody of Memories will eventually get discounted, you made the right choice.

This is most likely what'll happen. Or there'll be certain story moments where she's fully playable (where it's relevant for her to appear), and those moments might be spoilers. I like to think there's going to be at least some opportunity to have her playable. It's a game where she's the focus, so I would think she'd get her time to shine too.
