Ever since Kingdom Hearts 3 was confirmed to be released on the Playstation 4 and Xbox One, fans have been concerned about the situation surrounding Kingdom Hearts HD 1.5 and 2.5 ReMix. The goal of the remasters was to compile every title in the franchise on one system to prepare the players for the long-awaited finale of the Dark Seeker saga. Now the question is whether or not the remasters will be re-released on the PS4 and XB1 or if they'll remain exclusive on the PS3.
Co-Director Tai Yasue commented on the subject in a recent interview with IGN. While no confirmations can be made, the possibility still exists and is something that they are considering.
"I think [putting the games on PS4] is something we’ll explore. We understand what our players want, so we will explore the possibility. I’m not making any announcements though, we can’t make any announcements yet!"
"It’s a big old question," he says. "There’s a lot of things we need to think of when we consider consoles. One of them is what our players want, so we will definitely consider that. But there’s also schedule constraints, as we really don’t want the development of Kingdom Hearts III going later, so we have that to think about. We’ll consider all these things and come to a decision."
However today, Square Enix France revealed a PS4 release of Final Fantasy X|X-2 HD on their online store. Although the page no longer exists, it confirms the release for Spring 2015, at 49,99 Euros.
With this revelation, what do you think of the likelihood of Kingdom Hearts following the same trend? What changes are you hoping they will make? Have you decided to skip over the PS3 releases of 1.5 and 2.5 in the hopes that a PS4 version would follow, or if you've already purchased the remasters, would you be interested in double-dipping? When the original GTA V release for PS3/360 was approaching and the developers were being quiet/not giving definitive answers on the possibility of re-releasing to next gen, I just had a feeling we'd be seeing the game on PS4/XB1 within a year for some reason.

As much as that sounds about right, I believe that KH3 will be our 2016 game. If that is so, then wouldn't it make more sense (if they're planning to do it or not) that 3DHD come out in 2015 to complete the collection of games before KH3 comes out?
Perhaps slating KH3 for 2016 is me being too optimistic, but I just feel like 2017 is much too far.
As for putting them on PS4/XB1...? I don't really feel like it would bring anything else to the table except for greater availability to people who own those consoles. But that WOULD give XBox fans the chance to own the games, which is hardly a bad thing.

I won't mind if they port them over as long as they fix the difficulty trophies for 1.5! I am not playing KH1 and Re:CoM over that many times. I'll do it for the PS3 version but they can go screw themselves if they don't fix it for a PS4 version.

They should focus developing KHIII and when they will be about 80% they can make the again the remasters. It won't take that long like 1.5 and 3.5. But still it's pointless. The team that is working on X|X-2 isn't the same one that's been working on the KH games in recent years. They have a small team of around 70-80 staff between the Osaka (which at the last count had roughly 300 staff) and Tokyo offices that are working on the KH remasters, and some of them are also pulling double-duty with KH3. The vast majority of the Osaka team are 100% focused on KH3.

I'll be interested when(yeah.. I know if) the LE Kingdom Hearts PS4 comes out. It'd have to be a real sweet PS4+KH bundle for me to go all out right now, because I just got my 2.5 copy for my PS3 and I'm quite content. I do plan on buying a PS4 of course, but closer to time to the new FF and KH3 release! Let's face it, SE and Nomura is gonna go all out with the Dark Seeker Saga conclusion with all types of goodies so you can't trick me to buying my PS4 now, when there is a realistic possibility of a KH3 themed PS4!

Not to mention with how many consoles the series has spanned. It's a really healthy choice to put everything in one place. That has a massive appeal to everyone. And with a series rich in story like KH, only being able to play a couple of them because you only own a single console is a real bummer. Not everyone has easy access to all of those different systems.
NewGen versions would certainly make them current for several more years.

Given how Nomura just recently said that it wouldn't be all that exciting to release DDD HD as a standalone release, I'm thinking maybe they'll include it in a bundle with 1.5 and 2.5 on PS4. That'd entice people to rebuy both games. And me, being the sucker I am, would re-purchase them even if DDD wasn't included.
Of course, I'm just theorizing. I definitely think the remasters will be ported, and I will stupidly rebuy them, despite having bought the standard and LE of 1.5 and the LE and CE of 2.5. I'd like to see how nice KH looks on PS4.

Plot-twist: the town at Lightning Returns' ending will actually be a town you can visit in Final Fantasy X-3.
*ahem* back on topic: like previous members have reminded us, Nomura thinks releasing DDD HD as a standalone game wouldn't be something appealing. This leaves the door open for:
A.) DDD HD bundled with both ReMixes
B.) DDD HD bundled with BbS Vol. 2/Chi/both
C.) All of the above
D.) That horrible V-Cast title well get remade and featured inside DDD HD...
At this point, I'd probably only buy such a thing for collection purpose if ever. Not too interested.
It would still be good for non-PS3 owners with either PS4 or Xbone.
However, if 3DHD would be included.....pants down. I've yet to play that game due to not owning Nintendo consoles anymore.
I don't mind more ports, but I definitely want shared trophy lists. I know some trophy hunters would love separate lists, but it's too much work (and no fun) obtaining the platinum trophies for these games more than once.

FFX & X-2 on PS4 is surprising. Almost makes you wonder if there is a FFX-3 on the way. FFX is my favorite game ever and I was content with it ending after FFX-2. However, that audio bonus kind of changed my opinion and now I want a FFX-3.
As for Kingdom Hearts, I think it would be tough, majority of the people who would buy a Remaster edition already have and I doubt many would buy them again. I dont think they would get enough sales to warrant a PS4/XBone edition. That is just my opinion though.

I'd buy it just because of the cool home screen thing all games have. That on PS4 will look gorgeous.

Before KHIII releases I think we can only reasonably expect a 3DHD release.
Either way, I can't imagine them announcing a PS4 version anytime soon as it would probably hinder sales in the current PS3 release, but like I said, I do think it will happen at some point.

But the ReMIX has already happened. It's already available. It's done. The only titles not yet covered are DDD and χ[chi].
Spending the time and resources to port 1.5 and 2.5 to PS4 seems like something that would take a backseat in terms of priority.

I feel like this will happen, but not for the sake of being put on current gen consoles.
I see it happening because xbox one sales will suffer greatly if they don't do this.
Gamers who has only ever owned an xbox console, will have no idea what is going on, and will likely not want to dive into the 3rd title of a game franchise because they'll have to watch let's plays, or read up on wiki's and articles about what is going on before playing it.
Most people who own a ps4, likely owned a ps3, and almost 100% owned a ps2, so they have played these games before.

I'm not sure what you mean by PSN. PSNow? Or PSN in general because keep in mind PS3 titles are not compatible on PS4 systems except on PSNow and that service is terrible.
They can't put it on PSN and just go "okay play!" it would have to be ported to PS4 to be playable. This is the point. People playing it on last gen have no issues accessing the game. Putting it on PSN does nothing.

I don't know about you, but...No way am I waiting 20hrs+ for that download. Not to mention if they put it on PSN, where does that leave XBox?
The main difference between the HD Remakes of FFX/FFX-2 and KHHD 1.5/2.5 is that in case of FF almost the entire codebase was reworked whereas it stayed pretty much intact for the KH titles. This essentially means the KH titles are still very PS2-bound, something that the PS3 can work with while the PS4 (or PC/XboxOne) can't.
Reworking the game on a fundamental level was the reason why the FFX/FFX-2 remakes took so long and not doing it was the reason it took only three people for the KH remake in the beginning. These are real technical difficulties and with KH source code and assets being lost, it just gets more complicated.
Personally I can't imagine that Square Enix would put out some money again after the games were released for the PS3 so shortly. Not when the opportunity to spent more work and money in the first place to be able to port these games on different platforms was obviously passed two times.
I'm not saying it can't happen, as they are probably searching for an easier solution right now, I'm just saying it won't happen anytime soon.
Owning 1.5 twice (thanks to the collectors edition) and 2.5. I would be fairly upset if it were to come to ps4. I'm sure it would be welcomed and knowing me, I would buy it just to add to my collection but I feel its too soon. It literally just came out on ps3. if they were planning to put it on ps4, it should of started that way in my opinion. Now with DDD, I do not mind if it is on ps4 at all.
i honestly hope not, i only just copped them for last gen and i haven't even played 2.5. maybe in 2-3 years but even then i'd feel like a fool re-buying these games again.
(although if they made some serious tweaks for next-gen i'd admittedly be welcome to the idea but i doubt square would spend the resources)
They should do it. Why not? Maybe one day after two generations consoles passes by you want to play again and you want to make sure you can get it on nearest precedent generation console.

Does all of your account info (trophies, etc.) carry over from PS3 to PS4? Maybe you won't have to get the trophies over again if you already got them in the PS3 versions.

Well, the original games are "already available". That was never the point. The point is to get as many people up to speed with the various entries and a big portion are jumping or have jumped ship to the PS4/X1. A lot of people also never had a PS3.
Square needs to put the games on the PS4 and (as much as the idea saddens me) X1 if they don't want to lose KH3 sales. The situation is pretty bad as it is. When KH3 launches (say 2017 if we are lucky), someone who hasn't played the previous 8 games isn't gonna care for 3. It's as simple as that. They need to put this on PS4 so it will be easier to draw people in now and later on.

Depending how long it takes them and what it would cost them I don't see it being too cost effective to remaster DDD by itself to PS4. Especially with the trend they've had from the past two and if they want it at a $40 or more tag.

I'd rather the game saves be transferred like FFX between systems. There's a lot of things I'd rather not do again in both. Dx
I really don't know how I would feel about that if it happened. One one hand I'd rather have bought the PS4 versions since I cannot see my PS3 being plugged in as far down the line as PS4, but as far as I know (and have looked up), is there a way to transfer save data? I'd be pretty peeved to have to 100% 1.5 again (especially with non-stackable trophies) so I'd probably forego the PS4 version all together honestly.

I believe all games on the PS4 install onto the hard drive when the disk is first inserted into the PS4, therefore any waiting time for D-Link, Summon, Drive Forms or delays in obtaining items would be gone.

I'd definitely buy it. If it's a single package with all the remasters (also 3DHD) that'd be awesome. Otherwise I'd just get 2.5 since it has the titles I liked most. I think it would be good for them to port KH remasters to PS4 so more people get to enjoy it. I don't get the hate for FFX/X-2... I thought they were good games and see it as a good sign of them being released on the PS4.

Did you log into your PS4 with the same ID as your PS3? Because all your PS3 trophies are on your PS4 too, since it's linked to your PS ID and not the systems themselves. Unless you just mean the PS4 versions of the games, in which case, yeah you'd have platinum in KHFM PS3 but not for the PS4 version. But honestly, if you've platinumed it already on PS3, there's not much point in doing it again unless you like trophies that much. Only reason I got the trophies for 1.5 was because of my love for the series. Normally I don't care about trophies at all.
The Drive Form loading times are terrible. I do not remember it taking 5 seconds on the Playstation 2.
If they do port to PS4, I hope they remember to stack 1.5's difficulty trophies.

Yeah, guess what I've been doing with my free time lately. Do you know what's funny? The tedium of levelling Riku and synthesizing pointless rooms for the room trophy is giving me a higher opinion of Card Master Sora.
I have yet to pursue platinum on these games, but from the way everyone laments the trophies on 1.5, perhaps a port to the PS4 would take that into consideration.

They pulled it off super easy with Diablo III. It would just require some means of Cloud storage in order to transfer the data from PS3 to Cloud and then from there to the PS4. And if they did that I would assume, just like with Diablo, that once you do the transfer to PS4 you can no longer transfer it back to PS3 and would have to start a new file if you wanted to play the PS3 version again for some reason.

plus in GTA V you're able to transfer save data from xbox 360/ps3 to ps4/XB1, and it's interchangeable. however, this was done via the rockstar social club so unless square enix gave you the option to save your information via their own database, i don't think it can be done that way but you already explained how else it can be done.

No, you can port from PS3 to PS4. The Last of Us Remastered is proof enough, as well as the next-gen port of GTAV. There isn't backwards compatibility because the PS4 can't emulate PS3 (likely due to CELL) and stuffing a mini-PS3 into the box would hike the price up significantly. That's what happened with the original PS3 models, which basically had a tiny PS2 inside of it to enable BC functionality. Slim removed PS2 BC and cost significantly less.WWHD isn't really a graphical overhaul. It's a pretty standard HD rerelease. Cel-shading ages really well so they didn't really have to do much. Most of the difference can be attributed to the new lighting.
WWHD is a much higher overhaul than KH, no question about it. Frankly, does Nintendo ever do remasters? They always remake stuff, which is much more expensive and impressive.

And correct those glitches. AND make the game 100% HD, as in, remaster every model and movie that wasn't remastered.

The glitches I can understand, remastering every model (new textures) and SD cutscene.. I don't see that happening. Although it wouldn't need a ton of work, the animation would need to be created from scratch.
It's certainly possible especially with the huge fan demand but what troubles me is how Square has been responding to fan feedback as of late. I mean the whole FFVII controversy was annoying enough and yet they still won't listen to their fans. Many of us would love to see FFVII in HD and remastered but odds are it won't happen anytime soon and I feel similarly toward porting both KH 1.5 and 2.5 HD ReMIX especially since KH3 won't be exclusive anymore to PlayStation. One can dream though I guess. Here's hoping they start listening to their fans and soon.

Normally I'd say something about how difficult it is to make certain aspects of a game that is a remake. Most times you need the OK from the original crew, which is a problem for both FFVII and FFIX.
But SE has always done a fantastic job of alienating certain groups of fans and ignoring the feedback they're constantly asking for. Sure: maybe the feedback equates out to a 'no, we don't want that' in a few scenarios. But I very much doubt that's the case with things like CE's, platforms, and content.
So no, I can't really say I disagree with you. Hardly.
I so hope that they go through and put it on the PS4 as I never bought a PS3 and I really want to play these games. I am also looking forward to FFX/X-2 for the same reason!!! I hope they decide to put KH 1.5 and 2.5 on Next Gen because I would buy it in a heartbeat!
If we're talking about removing the glitches, my pipe dream is that they tone down CoM's trophies while they're in there. I'm talking about mere seconds of work on their part: a few seconds to realize they made a mistake and one second to change the number attached to the trophy. At least crank the Level 99 trophies down to 75. Or get rid of them, that sounds even better.
(Riku's full attack points trophy can suffice as the "pointless grinding" trophy for him, and Card Master Sora and the Moogle Shop trophies are already pointless grinding trophies for Sora. We don't need to go the extra ten vapid hours demanded by the level 99 trophies.)
EDIT: I just realized this was an older thread and so I probably already said all of the above earlier in the thread. But it's months later and I'm still kind of irritated by the issue, so...
