Alongside the rolling release of the KINGDOM HEARTS Melody of Memory demo worldwide today, Square Enix has also released brand new screenshots and renders for the upcoming rhythm action game.

Kingdom Hearts Melody of Memory continues the story on from the end of Kingdom Hearts III Re Mind and features over 140 musical tracks and 20 characters from the series. Kingdom Hearts Melody of Memory releases on November 13 2020 on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch.

Seeing the name of Xion's theme next to everyone else's is so funny.
I know! I’m like, “whyyy even?!” Giving the leitmotif a fancy name, a French one at that rather than Italian, just screams of “sue”, even though I heard others say Xion is supposed to be a deconstruction of one. But no, not even Kairi, who had many renditions of her leitmotif just named Kairi I, II, and III, had that kind of fanfare. I like Shimomura, and I’m very tolerant of Xion, but that character theme title is the most laughable thing I’ve ever seen. Who even decided it? Kanemaki?!

What? No. Who cares about the battle theme? They’re meant to be different, and that’s perfectly acceptable. Roxas has his “Other Promise”, and Xion is entitled to her “Vector to the Heavens”; it’s only fair.
What I’m poking fun at is she has the only leitmotif, literally the only one of all characters, to have it so wordy and fancy. It’s laughable when it’s racked up next to the others.

Looks like the updated recycled ones from the bundles, but then again they did say this game was made through Unity which hasn’t been done before, so…take of that what you will.

New cutscenes are prerecorded with Unreal Engine. It would be very hard to achieve exact same lighting with Unity.
But it looks really great. Feels like past games.

The models are recycled but they've been updated a bit.
I think all the MoM renders have looked really nice so far. Honestly Roxas's MoM render might be my favorite render of him so far. It's like a updated one of him from the old games, but doesn't look a bit off like it was in his KH3 model.
The interface is so nice and clean, it's got me jonesing for an updated Theatrhythm: FF.
Also, gotta gush a little over the new renders. That Aqua is flames.
Maybe it's the placements my computer is putting them on, but Terra being above Meow Wow makes it look like he's jumping to attack it. Dream Eaters are our friends, Terra!

I always commented on the utterly obnoxious name of her theme. But since she's so tragic, I guess she gets more privileges than other main characters.
Also, Xion's definitely not a deconstruction. Especially if you look at the origin of the term of the Star Trek parody (the actual "Sue" similarly dies...tragically). I never understood that argument - she's a straight example.
On the other hand, it's good to see the TAV renders. It's just rather daunting how Riku's team are some bat and a cat dog, lol.

Totally. So glad Neverland's not just a pirate ship anymore. Even though I love the pirate ship Neverland themes, especially the battle one. Hope they have all of the tracks from Neverland.

Only the best characters get long french title names. The fact that Xion even has to associate with the other lesser characters and their less special theme names is a insult to her brand. When she gets a new Keyblade it needs a equally long french name that twist the tongue. #DivaXion

Ohhhhh no you don’t. I am not going to get dragged into singing praises of either girl and bashing fans’ heads in by defeating them in debate over video game characters of all things (modesty aside, debate was my thing back in school, so yeah…but I don’t want to because this is a video game forum and I wanna have fun, not humiliate a fellow gamer).
All I said was it’s utterly laughable how Xion has a ridiculously named leitmotif, among all other characters who have their names alone, including Kairi.
I’ll say it now on how I feel about both girls, because I don’t want to repeat arguments in other threads:
I like Naminé because she is still an unsolved mystery. She’s still a locked box (heh) and you can’t help but wonder what’s inside. It’s human nature to be curious and allured by the unknown. It has lessened somewhat because she is now human, or well, living doll, but the fact that her mystery is unsolved is what is alluring to her character until now. When her mystery has been finished, then it is finished.
As for Xion, while I dislike Kanemaki and her writing, I am tolerant of the character she created, although some of that is because she’s already there and Nomura made her exist, so…eh. There is no longer any mystery to her, as everything concerning her has been resolved, but I don’t hate her. If she appears hereafter in the next saga, good for her, as long as Nomura can write something decent to keep her interesting; if she doesn’t, I reaaally don’t care if we never see her again since her story is finished. I never really cared either if she was a sue or a deconstruction of one, only that I heard others talking about it.
As far as I’m concerned, fictional video game characters are wonderful pieces of art, discussion, and whatever else, but they’re not hills I’m willing to die on.
Can we get back on topic now? The mod might be a bit annoyed with this.

Yes, I'm sure the composer chose the name of the theme they were composing specifically so that it stands out when put next to everyone else's themes a decade and a half later.
By the way, "mary sue" isn't a real thing and that entire conversation about it is completely irrespective of the actual creative process.

Okay, pushing aside the impromptu gathering of the Xion fanclub and that long name for now (and hopefully the duration of this thread), these shots look great! I have to praise their lighting, especially since I heard that it used to cause seizures back in development.
I really love the new renders for AVT and Riku. Riku's smirk is so fitting for him. I actually really appreciate how they all seem to be in a good mood despite striking a battle pose, seems like they're having a good time.
Also I didn't notice until someone here pointed it out, but it's cool to see them also take versions of worlds from Days. Wonder if it'll just be Neverland or if other alternative versions of worlds will also appear.

Have they though? It's not uncommon that they update visuals of renders but ingame models remain rough. For example, I am pretty sure in the screenshots that Aqua Ventus Terra still have their Low Poly rough shapes models with no fingers. ?

I heard they had to pay Xion a crap ton of money just to get this glorious song into the game. Like Dwayne Johnson level money. Makes sense, since you want the MVP of Kingdom Hearts in MoM and that's Xion.

These might be my favorite renders of AVT. I love them. The Melody of Memory renders are so good. The minute they put out the RAX ones I made them my wallpaper, and these AVT and Riku ones are just as good. Really makes me miss the old style, even though I do enjoy the Unreal Engine models.
I'm hoping they have all the versions of Neverland. It has like three different regular themes and battle themes. We'll see which ones get in.

I mean it was funny that everyone's slot had their name and Xion had some French gibberish lol. At first I didn't realize I was looking at a song select screen, I thought it was character select, then I saw Xion's song name.
So in a (weirdly) deleted interview on Famitsu, Shimomura actually explains why some of her songs are titled in different languages. The gist of it is that the English words are too basic for the feeling she wants to convey, such as Sadness vs Tristesse, Nightwing vs Nachtflügel.

Interesting. For me, as a German native speaker, Nachtflügel sounds very aggressive and it’s also hard to pronounce.

That means only those on the middle will have those cool flashy attacks... that’s sorta unfair:( i wanted to use terra... his just as much protagonist as Aqua, My favorite character is being cast Aside yet again even after 10 years... hmm to be real I don’t care who gets to be in the middle anymore but I wish they would have given everyone those cool flashy special moves, Quite unfortunate that only the leaders has them, but Huh no big deal the game still looks Good definitely looking forward to it!

Nomura's using MoM to make Days maps in HD so he doesn't have to spend a lot of time on a Days remake. I see his game.

Because MoM is meant to be very newbie friendly so the name just needs to simply do its job and represent the team?

I mean, you can call the teams anything you want, just not in game. I'm certainly never calling RAX or ATV, Team Days or Team BBS whenever I refer to them online, regardless what the game calls them. Only Team Classic has staying power for me, though Team Half-pints would have been cool.

Besides it's not even like the fandom sticks with just one name. Team Days would be a good example: RAX, Sea Salt and Clock Tower are all pretty common bames for them.
Unless there is s major shift in the forum and fandom as awhole i can't see myself switching.
