Kingdom Hearts series creator and director Tetsuya Nomura has posted a message on Twitter celebrating the 20th Anniversary of the Kingdom Hearts franchise and shared a sketch of the anniversary art he only started yesterday:
Good evening. Thank you for your 20th anniversary congratulatory message. I'm sorry that the preparations for the 20th anniversary event are currently unsuccessful, but I have no preparations today. I started drawing pictures for the 20th anniversary yesterday, and I'm thrilled if I can make it in time for the event. Thank you for your continued support @ Nomura

I could be wrong but it looks like Nomura is drawing Luxord in a suit. Hopefully we get to see his Quadratum butler outfit in the sketch, lol

I just appreciate Tetsuya Nomura, period. His artistic style is iconic and it's all the more impressive that this was a last-minute piece.

You can really tell he loves drawing old man Xehanort.
It's because of this artstyle that I missed the drawn portraits in KH3.
As an artist I can fully appreciate a man who procrastinates until the last second to start making a sketch while sacrificing his wrists for the greater good.

It's just normal 20 year old Xehanort. I think this is the first time we've seen Nomura draw his face though.

It's better than anything, but honestly I don't like these delays. What's the reason for them?! Covid can't be an excuse for everything anymore. FF7 had its 25th anniversary art finished in time...

A few partial characters for a logo vs a full blown illustration isn't really comparable.
Yeah, this artwork looks like it's going to be on par with a game cover and it's possible he'll color it too

I think it has more to do with the fact that they are celebrating the anniversary in April, so Nomura probably just 100% forgot that today was the actual anniversary lol
Also Nomura is a chronic procrastinator and also overworked on other projects.

He’s an overworked man working on a bunch of projects so I understand him not starting it sooner but I do agree. I was hoping for a finished artwork today, and to hear it may not even be done for the event in two weeks is just ?

I wonder if people are mistaking her arm for a belt?
I had a bit of a random laugh earlier looking at this picture… Dark humor, but, well, I imagined a fan event where they reveal each image at a time—Sora with 1 finger for KH1, Sora with 2 fingers for KH2, Sora with 3 fingers for KH3. And then finally, a picture from Nomura "to the fans," Sora with a middle finger. LOL Lord knows how hard it must be to deal with needy fanbases for decades like this.

Hard to believe it's been 20 years now. I played the first game when it first released, when I was 6 years old. Playing that game changed the course of my life. Kingdom Hearts made me passionate about stories, which made me want to write fiction. And being passionate in stories, also led me to be passionate about history. And in just a couple months, I will be graduating with a Master's degree in History and on my way to a doctoral program in the Fall. I wouldn't have chosen this path in life if it hadn't been for that magical experience, and that one incredible night when I popped that disc into my PS2 and heard that glorious Simple and Clean song for the first time. Finishing Kingdom Hearts 1 was my first major accomplishment in life, and it turned out to be the beginning of so many more. God bless this amazing series. God bless Nomura, and God bless this miraculous product of the most fateful elevator meeting in history.

Well he just started it yesterday and it’s a celebration of the series thus far. There is a huge half that we don’t even see because he hasn’t drawn it yet lol

I feel like I may even be seeing short sleeves, as opposed to something akin to the normal kind of tank top sleeves from her dress), if it's her normal dress... and it probably is, and they're just things that will be erased in the final product as this is just a sketch. But it definitely seems to have gotten a lot of people's brains a-thinkin'.

The fact that Mr. Nomura was too busy to complete this sketch might actually be a really good thing for us Kingdom Hearts fans. ?
Obvious wishful thinking, but if we see something amazing and far along in April, a late sketch will be forgiven.

As much as I'd like her to get a new outfit, to me it looks like her usual dress. But as someone starving for Nami content, I'm just happy she's being acknowledged.

At the moment, since it's a rough sketch and far from the completed work, I'd be inclined to believe them to be sketch marks. It'd be nice for Naminé to get some new duds though!

Considering this is for the 20th anniversary, I don't think any characters are gonna get new outfits, and people are thinking the person next to Luxord might be Yozora but I think thats just Laurium/Marluxia.

I'm just glad that Namine was included in the early sketches. It means that she's at least on his mind and not forgotten (like the KH3 intro).

I think it's possible we could get Yozora and his crew at least. Even disregarding Re:MIND and KH4 they still did show up in KH3 through the Verum Rex commercial
Even Nomura's sketches are masterpieces. I still need an art book for this man's work.
FF7 Remake team did this for KH 20th Anniversary. Good to see it's not only KH celebrating FF7 Anniversary.

I laughed at Roxas in the initial sketch being mistaken for Kairi / Xion due to it looking "bland" but I felt sad when Xaldin and Leaxaus wasn't included :(
