They do do that, but mostly by offering a beginner difficulty mode, storyline wise they aren't very clear. Then again, I don't know much about BBS, haven't played it yet

No prob, glad I could help. Besides, BBS might not make much sense, because it works with the knowledge of preestablished facts which you wouldn't know from not having played the series. I'd save it to last, because the other games have a lot of foreshadowing of Birth by Sleep which is interesting to see.
