In the latest interview with Nomura, he said the events took place 10 years ago. Not the "distant past". I don't think 10 years can be considered "distant"

Yea, i forgot to point that out. Just because the ability to weild a keyblade may not be inherited, it doesn't mean that Terra or Sora didn't have strong hearts to begin with.

I so agree with this. I have to say that i didn't see anything sad apart from Axel dying. N yea those hu played the game will see Roxas merge into Sora and Namine merge into Kairi but thats not sad is it? N even the ending movie doesn't show any signs of "heartbreaking" moments.
