American Beauty not as great as it was?

Ok so i saw American Beauty around a year ago for the first time and was blown away. The acting was fantastic, love Kevin Spacey, and the writing/direction were top notch as well. Nedless to say i love the movie. Now recently i decided to look up lists of the "worst" oscar winners (out of sheer boredom), and to my surprise American Beauty was on some of the lists. I was floored. I thought the movie was phenominal, and critical acclaim seemed to agree with me.
Can anyone tell me why American Beauty is regarded as a bad movie? I'd hate to think i have bad taste.

Whoever made that list has bad taste. American Beauty is a good movie, and I've never met anyone who's seen it and thought otherwise.
