Do Ansem and Xemnas Have An Identity Crisis?

Let's think about this one... Ansem, Seeker of Darkness is the Heartless of Terra-Xehanort (Master Xehanort's heart possessing Terra's body)... at his core he is still TERRA'S heart being controlled by Master Xehanort. Hence why Ansem looks more like Terra than the Old Man otherwise he'd look old. Xemnas on the other hand is simply Terra's body, somehow lacking darkness (supposedly) and this would mean Xehanort would be unlikely to seize control... yet he has complete control. Both seem to have forgotten about their other original self... Terra for whom they owe their appearances and as far as Xemnas goes... the desire to find Ventus (and possibly Ansem may have been searching for Aqua). While Master Xehanort was able to seize complete control of the Heartless and Nobody... he was unable to return to the body or heart he commanded and the biggest irony here is that he tried to find a way to control the mind because possessing Terra proved too difficult for him... while still possessing complete control of Terranort and later Ansem and Xemnas. So the lesson here... is don't retcon things because it makes less sense that way. The question is are these characters just a jumbled mess of logic, reason, and furthermore... convolution and why are they like this?

I'd say that is an astounding yes. Terra, Xehanort, amnesia, there's a whole lot of wibbly wobbly there. （￣□￣；）I'd be amazed if they had a single straight/coherent/unanimous thought in their heads among all the jumble.
