wouldn't you like to know...
this may have already been posted but i search for it and got nowhere.

in the begining of kingdom hearts, sora's wooden sword does not kill the heartless because they said he needed a keyblade to do so. yet donald's and goofy's weapons aren't keyblades. so why do they hurt the heartless... but sora's sword doesnt seem to hurt a fly?

This is just called common sense. A lightweight wooden sword can't destroy anything. Period.

A sword, a heavy rodlike sword, a staff, or a shield can destroy and harm things.

It's not the object, it's the strength of body/heart of the person using the weapon that decides whether they can harm heartless

Yeah thats why in Hollow Bastion in KH1 when Sora was given the wooden sword "to play the hero" as Riku said could hurt the heartless a little. Its about the heart of the wielder.

and apparently since Sora is chosen to wiel the keyblade, his true IMMENSE power comes through the keyblade and the deep magic from within

not to disagree, but by that logic, the wooden sword should have worked, no? cause sora's heart's power didn't really change between the couple of seconds he had the wooden sword and the keyblade.

The keyblade amplifies Sorea's strength, and is made for defeating Darkness, so naturaly it would be more affective than a wooden sword.

And then later on when Sora got the Wooden sword again, he was much stronger of heart and of body, so he could harm the heartless even though he did not have the keyblade

Yeah, in principlae that would make sense Muffin man. But I highly doubt the game cared hwo strong Sora's heart was at the time.
All in all, I think the game was programmed to not let you hurt heartless until that one cutscene took place. Which happens to be when you get the keyblade.

I think the keyblade unlocks hearts, that doesnt mean other weapons cant kill heartless it only means they cant release hearts. In hollow bastion you have the wooden sword again and you are able to kill heartless with it...it just takes longer

Donald and Goofy have weapons specially made by Disney Castle artisans specially designed for combat. They are reinforced with mystic power which enables them to destroy heartless. Regarding the keyblade, it just enchances a person's natural strength. Sora had a stronger heart and sense of mind towards the end which enabled him to attack with the toy sword though it wasnt alot, the point being he was much stronger than in the beginning.

oh, and I suppose this is true for Tarzans spear, Aladdins sword, Mulans Sword, Jacks Sword, Peter Pans knife, Beasts claw, Jack and Ariels fists, and all the other weapons in the game that can magically kill the heartless.

Disney Castle's smith must be plum tuckered out...
