My advice would be just hang around her for a while, she'll figure out that you atleast like her as a friend to do that. Once you gain enough confidence then you can slowly start talking to her, you know? But look out for her interests. On a serious note... it could mean she doesn't like guys who are shy, and likes the ones that are more outgoing and assertive.
