I've heard a lot about the iPhone 3G, but am wondering...which is better to have, 3, 8, or 16GB iPhone?

It's called an iPhone 3G. Notice how it lacks a B? That's cause the 3G isn't an indicator of its memory storage. 3G is the name of a new type of mobile network. 3G has nothing to do with Apple, but Apple incorporated it into the name of their revised iPhone because the iPhone 3G supports 3G.

Memory storage comes in 4GB (no longer available), 8GB or 16GB. The bigger the pricier.

And what are the big differences between the two versions. (Excluding the 3G network that is)

depends on how much you keep on your phone. if your going to keep a lot of music/movies/photos then you may want one with a lot more storage capacity. to be honest, i would think it would be hard to fill up 4GB anyway, unless its the only thing you use to keep everything on. plus the more memory you want, the pricier its going to be. i would go for a 4GB or perhaps 8GB.

Yes, you can download the 2.0 firmware from apple for free, which allows apps. The big differences other than 3G are third party apps, "Push" software, which is really for big companies, but it syncs Emails, Contacts, and Calenders over the air. It also has a GPS receiver, so apps like google maps can use the GPS to find your location and give you directions.

I would just stick with cheapest one, 3G.
