Now, are there any precautionary steps I should take? I've already installed AVG as my anti-virus, and peerguardian, to do whatever peerguardian does, but honestly, I don't know what to do now. I've got some programs that I had before (iTunes, Winamp, VLC Media Player, DivX, and such). Anything I should do to make my computer more secure?

Do you have any idea what peerguardian does? I can give you one fact: eats resources (=useless)
A firewall is a must, since you didn't list that I presume that you are using winblow's firewall, I'd recommend Zone Alarm as a free one.
Another idea (that will cost) is to buy a hardware firewall, they might be a bit annoying to configure at 1st but they give you a peace of mind.
And if you want to take security to the max you should download Truecrypt and encrypt all your importand files. REMEMBER if you loose the password you won't be able to get the files back until the password is bruteforced (at this rate about 100-10000 years if the password is long enough)

That's all I can think of for now.
